It isn't one of my favourites but I think it's a great song. The contrasting vocals between Liam and Noel work well in the chorus. Love the live version on Familiar To Millions. :)

EDIT: Why is SOTSOG considered their worst album? It has FITB, Go Let it Out(great song), Who Feels Love, Sunday Morning Call and Gas Panic!(Just brilliant)? For their worst album, to have 5 great songs out of 11 is not bad in my opinion.

What time did the enemy come on?

I've been offered a reasonable price for a ticket for tomorrow in edinburgh and dunno whether to go. the setlists don't look particularly great but getting oasis on a good night is better than 99% of any other band on an excellent night so I'm still tempted.

Catching kasabian is no problem but I dunno if i'll be able to get there in time for the enemy. if i knew i was then that would seal the deal.

They've been great so far on the stadium tour. Setlist is great IMO, longest one they've ever played and they've actually made some effort to make the setlist for the stadium tour different to the one from the rest of the tour. If you miss The Enemy you're not missing much, I'd advise you see Kasabian, new album's brilliant :)

Liam's singing great as well, and they're generally in form so it's likely you'll catch them on a good night.

KeepTheFaith2211 06-17-2009 12:59 AM

Kasabian are brilliant live, and their new album is great. Ferret got me into them by sending me 'Fire' and then I've started to really like them. :D

Oasis were great the other night, really loved them. Liam's voice was great, Noel was Noel(that's good) and the band seemed on form. Plus, the setlist is superb, hearing 3 of my 5 favourite songs was great. :)

hometownboy 06-17-2009 05:24 PM

id say the enemy came on about at about 6:00ish and id definately say they were the best of the support bands.

I'm totally buzzing off these videos from their gig in France last night. In my eyes they're the best band in the world again. That's probably my favourite Live Forever they've ever played, certainly the best this tour, or the last one. Check Slide Away and My Big Mouth from that gig as well, amazing!

It's not the best 'Live Forever' of course(my favourite will always be the version that was played when I was there :D), but it's pretty brilliant considering everything. I'm really loving this band at the minute, after such a good show last week, I just can't stop listening to them.

Jim Bon Jovi 06-18-2009 06:15 PM

awesome gig.

not the best i've seen them (in fact it might not even be the 2nd best i've seen them) but as i said, oasis on a good night = > 90% of other bands.

excellent version of live forever though.

KeepTheFaith2211 06-18-2009 06:38 PM

Yeah, Live Forever when I saw them was amazing and a video Ferret showed me yesterday was brilliant as well. :)

Jim Bon Jovi 06-18-2009 07:14 PM

live forever is always great live.

i'll add it was pretty nice to be fairly sober at an oasis gig.

i had a bottle of wine on the train over to edinburgh and a few drinks in the pub while i tried to get a ticket but we stopped when we got into the stadium and it's a much nicer feeling remembering everythign crystal clearly than the drunk day after haze when spending so much money on a ticket.

once in a while teachers are allowed out of the school to have a social life and even partake in adult pastimes such as drinking and going to concerts. ;)

No it's not that, it's just I couldn't imagine any of my teachers doing such things. Although I did see my vice princapal at a metalica concert...

It's the same the world over. Your teachers are just like everyone else. They smoke, drink, plenty of them do drugs and a shit tonne of them enjoy going to gigs.

So what are everyone's top five Oasis songs? I played this game with my mate and we came up with two very different selections, and I think mine would cause a bit of controversy. :p

Making a top 5 of Oasis songs is incredibly hard for me because many of the songs have either incredibly beautiful or incredibly sad memories, but here it goes anyway. When I'd be feeling melancholy the list would look very different to when I'm happy, so I really can't do it, I think.

I can understand that to be honest. Same with Bon Jovi for me a lot of the time.

Here's my list, which will rarely change, if at all.

1. The Masterplan
2. Slide Away
3. Gas Panic!
4. Live Forever
5. Go Let It Out

hometownboy 07-10-2009 12:02 PM

They've been playing Gas Panic! at every soundcheck since they did South America, and Noel was hinting at Some Might Say in his Chris Moyles interview, but I don't know where you're getting Bag It Up from.

hometownboy 07-10-2009 09:15 PM

I really dont like kasabian, seen them twice now and didnt rate them either times!

Noel probably meant the 3 songs they started playing since the shows in Manchester. He just can't get it through his thick head that people check the set of a band before they go to a show.

Neurotica80 07-11-2009 12:21 AM

If thery changed the shows more id def think about going more than once per tour. Its just lazyness on the bands part. Here are the ones id alternate;

Shes electric
Hindu Times
Stop crying your heart out
Some might say/roll with it
Whatever
All around the world
Its getting better man
Sunday morning Call
Go let it out
Hello (its good to be back)
Bring it on down
Digsys diner
Round our way
Stand by me

etc etc

KeepTheFaith2211 07-11-2009 01:28 AM

I would pay £1000 to hear 'Go Let It Out' and 'Stand By Me' live.

Ferret 07-13-2009 03:02 AM

Noel's acoustic version of Whatever has been added to the setlist, in place of The Importance Of Being Idle.

hometownboy 07-13-2009 12:18 PM

Whatever is a great addition to the set!

i also love to hear Stand By Me live :)

Ferret 07-13-2009 03:46 PM

Here it is, the review that I'm sure none of you have been waiting for...

Ferret's All Important Oasis At Wembley Review
The best band in the world reviewed by the best forum user in the world! :o

I saw Oasis for the first time on Thursday. They have been my favourite band since early last year since I saw the Live Forever video on TV, but their other UK Tour (autumn last year) had escaped me. Luckily I managed to get tickets for the first night they played at Wembley Stadium, although they weren't particularly good tickets. But more on that later.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd be able to afford tickets for more than one date anyway, and this UK Tour was far better than the other UK Tour in many ways. Liam's voice is back on top (though I mainly heard my voice and my mate Tim's voice at the gig itself), and they're playing the longest setlist they've done in years. Here it is, just so you can all see how monumental this setlist is:

1. Fuckin' In The Bushes
2. Rock N Roll Star
3. Lyla
4. Shock Of The Lightning
5. Roll With It
6. Cigarettes And Alcohol
7. To Be Where There’s Life
8. Waiting For The Rapture
9. The Masterplan
10. Songbird
11. Slide Away
12. Morning Glory
13. My Big Mouth
14. The Importance Of Being Idle
15. Half The World Away
16. I’m Outta Time
17. Wonderwall
18. Supersonic
19. Live Forever

Encore:
20. Don't Look Back In Anger
21. Falling Down
22. Champagne Supernova
23. I Am The Walrus

Brilliant! And they dropped The Meaning Of Soul, fucking result!

Still, it wasn't all good. I missed the all the support acts apart from half of Kasabian's set, and I was looking forward to seeing them almost as much as I was Oasis. :( Still, we made it into the stadium in time for Kasabian's monster tune Vlad The Impaler....well, the instrumental outtro of it. Luckily I'm seeing them again in November. Anyway, the rest of their set was quality, despite the terrible mix making them sound like a rap band. LSF and Club Foot got massive singalongs, and I went mental when they played Fire.

So, we sat and talked after Kasabian went off. Then both of us went for a piss. All of a sudden, as we were walking down the stairs to the toilets, a woman started talking over the PA System. "Attention, get back to your seats, Oasis will be on within a minute" she said. SHIT. Without emptying our bladders we legged it back to our seats just in time to hear the collosal roar of Fuckin' In The Bushes. Liam walked onstage in his brilliant green parka and all was well. The band plugged in and they launched into Rock 'n' Roll Star. The song went down even better than Livin' On A Prayer on either times I've seen Bon Jovi, and that's saying something! Awesome opener.

Lyla next, and after the second chorus we went for a piss, only missing the solo and another chorus! The Shock Of The Lightning was great, and people seemed to think I was having a seizure as I air drummed to the drum solo. Chris Sharrock is a fantastic drummer, possibly the best Oasis have ever had.

Why the fuck has Noel stopped singing along to Roll With It? It's not the same without his ridiculous falsettoes and "Take it awaaaay"s. Still, it sounded brilliant, and I'm really glad it's back in the set. Liam sang it faultlessly. Noel's guitar solos are shit, though. Sort it out, Noel. Cigarettes and Alcohol was mental, with much pogoing and all that. To Be Where There's Life sounds amazing but nobody digs it apart from the hardcore. Waiting For The Rapture does work suprisingly well, especially after the first chorus, when it kicks off. Noel was in fine voice.

The Masterplan doesn't feel as special as it should, but it was still pretty good, and we were all digging it. Sadly I was recovering from a bad cold at the time of the gig and could never make it through the chorus of this one (and several others) without coughing like a bastard. Songbird was nice, and people knew it, so I'm fine with it in the setlist for now. Couldn't hear the piano on the outtro, though. I was shouting "Who the **** is Andy Bell?!" throughout

Slide Away was safely one of the greatest moments of my life. Back in my mind as the greatest song ever written. Screaming the chorus out was a truly monumental moment, and I had my arm around Tim throughout half of it (no homo!). Had one of the few decent guitar solos of the night as well. Morning Glory sounds shit on bootlegs as Noel sings half of it these days, but live it's a different matter. Everyone goes mad and it's got a great atmosphere.

And then, the song of the night...MY BIG MOUTH! After they dropped this monster of a song, the oral equivelant of having a tonne of bricks dropped on top of your head, in Liverpool, I thought it was done for good, and I'd never get to hear it. Thank god I did! Aside from Noel's shitty backing vocals it sounds amazing. Went down like a lead balloon obviously, even Tim, who's a fairly big fan, wasn't singing along, but it's great that Oasis are playing it for the diehard fans.

The Importance Of Being Idle was marred for me by the fact that my voice was blown and I couldn't sing along to the falsetto bits, but I'm sure it was a good peformance. To be honest, I'd have prefered Whatever, which they played in it's place last night. Half The World Away was awesome, though. I don't regret seeing that one atall. It's great to have a full band version played regularly.

Liam sounded like the man on I'm Outta Time. His voice really has gone miles and miles from the horrible "rah rah rah" sound of the Don't Believe The Truth Tour. It was one of the best times I'd ever heard that song live. I hate to say it, but I was blown away by Wonderwall. Not so much the way the band played it (though that was great too), but the crowd response, which was absolutely mental, obviously as all the tossers come along just to see that and Don't Look Back In Anger.

At the "You're my wonderwall" bit, the power cut, like in Manchester! At first I thought it was just to hear the crowd, as it would have been a perfect moment to do that, but then I saw Gem and Chris still playing along, and knew the generator had blown. Still, everyone carried on singing along, and the band picked up in precisely the right place. Then the power cut again. So no instrumental at the end. We had to wait a minute while Noel joked to us about "no fucking refunds this time!", but luckily the power came back very soon. They played Supersonic, and despite the singalong, the sound was shit (probably using a backup generator?). Luckily the power came back during the final guitar solo of the song.

Live Forever was suitably brilliant, and after it the band went off for the totally unnescessary encore break. The encore isn't really an encore, it's merely an extension of the setlist, and they've played the same four songs at every gig this tour. I tried to talk to Noel to no avail (geddit?), requesting Some Might Say, but sadly I was as far from the stage as was physically possible  I don't think he heard my request for Bonehead's Bank Holiday either :(

Don't Look Back In Anger needs to be the full electric version, but it was good anyway because everyone sang along. Falling Down is actually sounding good now, but nobody in the crowd seems to know it, and it doesn't go down well at all. Champagne Supernova was top, but it needs to have a longer guitar solo like on the Morning Glory and Be Here Now tours. That would be mindblowing. I Am The Walrus was brilliant, a great ending to the show.

So, what did I think? I'm very impressed. Oasis have finally got it right with their gigs. However, there are a few things they could improve:
1. Drop Falling Down. It always goes down badly.
2. Noel needs to sing harmonies on Roll With It, but not on My Big Mouth and Cigarettes and Alcohol. Live Forever is also missing a good harmony on "I just wanna fly/soaks you to the bone", which I always liked. Noel, keep the harmonies to the songs that need them, not any song you want to exert your presence in.
3. Better guitar solos. Champagne Supernova needs to go on for ten minutes again! Six will not do! And what the fuck is Noel playing on the outtro to Roll WIth It?
4. Have an acoustic set. There are three spots where Noel could do his acoustic set (let's be realistic, Liam isn't going to do one, is he?). Between The Masterplan and Songbird, although that would kill the momentum, around the area of TIOBI, or just before Don't Look Back In Anger. This could mean setlist change. I think it's a great shame they haven't played any new b-sides since the Heathen Chemistry era.

Great gig anyway. :D

KeepTheFaith2211 07-14-2009 12:28 AM

Good review Ferret. Same setlist from when I saw them, although I do believe Cigarettes & Alcohol switched places with Roll With It. :)

Neurotica80 07-14-2009 01:25 AM

Went last night and it was amazing maybe the best Oasis gig iv seen. Made up I got Slide away and where did Whatever come from?!!! I am the walrus was well worth teh wait for me too.

And Jim I was majorly wrong about Kasabian they were really good live, loved the cover of you've got the love. I got my vodka in though disguised in a coke bottle. Good job as all they sold in there was carlsberg (piss) and horrible Smirnoff ice.

I have read a few posts on STC saying that it's over-rated and it's nothing special live. F*ck that.

Ferret 07-15-2009 12:54 AM

Apparently they've just played She's Electric :D

Seb will be pleased! I've grown to like that song as well.

EDIT: Not played, just some idiot on twitter giving the wrong song name.

KeepTheFaith2211 07-15-2009 01:27 AM

That's a shame. :( I quite like She's Electric, nice upbeat song.
