I thought it was a good speech as well. You know say what you want about McCain, he was never going to win because of two major things that were out of his control--the fact that he is a Republican and so is George W. Bush and the failure of the American economy.

Well, the American people have gotten what they wanted. I hope they get it good and hard. My brother, a very non-political person said it better than I could on his facebook account:

200 years ago, obamas ideals would have gotten him hung as a traitor by our founding fathers, the writers of the forgotten document known as the constitution. today, he is elected president. congratulations voters

Seems only fitting that he and I take a group of people out to the range tomorrow, the 5th Of November, to teach them how to shoot military style weaponry for the first time.

And what a speech from Obama... you can say what you want or doubt all you want... but how good and inspiring does such a speech feel after 8 years of flat encephalogram from the White House? Looking even further back in time he's definitely something else.

200 years ago, Obama would have worn shackels around his ankles and worked on the fields while you and your folks cracked the whip on his back.

Thank god we are 200 years advanced and finally civilized.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

Hell, in Australia just 40 years ago, Aboriginal people were not even legally citizens in their own country. The residual effects are still being felt.

If society isn't allowed to progress in 200 years, we really are ****ed.

Spunkywho:"Ideals" are the key word in that sentence. Not the fact that he's black. Any public official with those ideals would've gotten a short drop and a sudden stop. EDIT:Maybe not hung... They wouldn't have been elected, they certainly would've had their property destroyed, been burned in efigy, and maybe tarred and feathered.

Nice insinuation that me and mine are racist though. I wish you could go back and say that to the faces of my ancestors who fought and died in the Union army to end slavery.

Adrian

I judge people by their words and actions. Not those of their ancestors.

Adrian 11-05-2008 07:38 AM

Cause I'm SO racist...riiiigght...

And when you address my "folk," you are including my ancestors.

I'll admit I haven't read the US Constitution. But I think the point was that "200 years ago" was a different time and place, at least one would hope so.

You mean the guys who wrote the first amendment would actually have hung someone for his ideals?

Makes so perfect sense...
