who chooses single releases
is it jon/band or is it the record company, some of the drivel released in the last 5 years or so makes me wonder.I know jon was quoted a few years back as saying he aint got a clue as to which ones to release, but you would of thought the ones that have been released that have done bollocks and the decent ones which released which did ok, the band would no what kind of song will go down best. Sorry if this dont make sense, but i know what i mean lol

it really depends. alot of it has to do with the label. in fact for the majority of bands what the label wants is what it gets because they do tend to know better than the artist what is going to sell.
however if you're as big as oasis, bon jovi, u2 etc... you've probably got a good deal of a say of what gets released and what doesn't. |
Im pretty sure the record company gets the final say. I remember Jon saying somewhere that he wanted LH to be the first single from the album, but the record company wanted MAM.
I remember that about memorey or LH being the first single. However Jon has said many times that he blessed that the record company gives him so much freedom in making decisions.
It's usually some sort of mixture of management, record company, and artist.
During the Bounce era, didn't the record company pick AALY as a single against the band's wishes?? I remember reading that Jon thought the distance would make a good choice for a single.
Yeah, I would like to know who makes what choice, I think Bounce really suffered by the choice's made to release.
