A similarity?

Hi, this might seem daft but I was listening to Born To Be My Baby this morning. To me, the guitar riff in the first verse sound a bit like that of the Livin' On A Prayer demo which is at the end of one of the discs on 100,000,000 fans... boxset. It might just be me but can anyone else hear a similarity?

It's pretty much identical to my ears. Check out the solo on that demo though, it's Edge Of A Broken Heart.

I´ve always felt these two songs have a lot in common, both musically and in other aspects as well. (Both were released as a 2nd single of an album. I always saw Tommy & Gina on BTBMB as well.)

There´s also some similarity in the choruses of Bruce´s The River and BTBMB, am I right? Tell me if I´m wrong.

I find the riff in the verse of BTBMB and Bad Name very much alike.

okay, it seems like all songs from bon jovi are rip offs xD. I think only similarity is between LOAP and BTBMB cause BTBMB is made to be a new prayer, though jon wanted to make it acoustic and more sincere.

I lately read that producer Bruce Fairbairn wanted to make BTBMB it more acoustic, folk-orientated and wasn't happy at all with the band who turned it into a stadium anthem much like LOAP.

Yeah i agree that BTMB was anothe song about tommy and gina, as i think novicane is "different kind of me from living on a prayer".

I thought that band wanted to make it acoustic and not so formula-driven but producers decided to make it like LOAP. Think I heard an interview where jon speaks about it, if it was on his idea, the song would be number 1 on hot 100. But I'm not sure about that, so yeah, I might be wrong

Yeah that's what I read too - it was the other way around. The band wanted it to be more of an acoustic song.

I read it on the german wikipedia page of the New Jersey album, and it's listed as a quote from a radio show. There its said that Bruce didn't like the tempo of the songs and that it could been a number one otherwise. Who knows what's right...

Anyhow, they recorded the acoustic version twice, as a B-Side once and then again on TLFR.
