River Runs Dry

I really enjoy this song a lot from the box set, but I always wanted to know the meaning behind this song? I always though the river was a symbol of love, but thats just me. Any guesses?

I like it too. Itīs one of my favorites on the box set. It just annoys me that it seems to be unfinished, probably an early demo. Jonīs voice is a bit weak in some parts of the song. I always thought it was a love song. One of the saddest ever, I think.

It's one of my favorites from the box set. And taking the words literally, it is either the end of a relationship due to one of the people falling out of love - or the end of a relationship due to the actions of the singer. We don't know what those actions are (or were) but there are several references to them:

"Sometimes heroes have to lose"

"I always told you that a man has got to face his own mistakes
Sometimes you get a lucky break
Sometimes your winning streak will stay
Sometimes you gotta pay"

The river is of course life's driving force itself.

And this song contains one of my favorite quotes ever:

"Everybody goes with the fire in their eyes" which in my book says an awful lot in a few well chosen words. Some people's fire burns hotter than others.

I agree, itīs got very thoughtful lyrics. Such a pity it didnīt become an album track. I would have loved to hear a finished version of it.

Always loved the song, I just don't like the "heroes have to lose" part. So chliché.

Didn't Jon rerecord some vocals for this song? Does anyone know which parts?

By the way, LOVE the song! One of my favourites off the box set, if not THE favourite.

Not a bad song, Probably in my top 10 off the boxset, but not top 5.

It has a simplistic sadness to it which I like. Some cliche lyrics, but that is Bon Jovi.

I love it. When I'm feeling really down, I cry to it.

"Stuffed up and now love ain't enough"... Simple concept but it's a beautiful song.:)

Brilliant song. Jon sounds amazing in the chorus.
