Can i drive Glasgow to Twikenham return in 24 hours?
Hey
Just after a bit of advice here. I'm up in Glasgow, have Saturday off work. What do you rekon the chances of me being able to survive Glasgow-Twickenham on Saturday for the show, then heading back up afterwards? Mapquest reads 445miles each way. I was at the Hampden show last Saturday and really tempted to go to Twick now  But im not sure, busses dont work cause of the times, neither trains. Even Ryanair are showing up 200 return each! So shared driving, 900 miles in about 25 hours max. Will i die? haha We'd be taking a 1.0litre Yaris, i rekon 2 1/2 tanks? Sorry for the stupidity of this thread, i've just never drove long distence before! |
you could but you'd be exhausted!

A 1L Yaris? See you next year mate. That would take an age to drive 445 miles. If you can(somehouw) average 70, then thats still six and a half hours each way, not including breaks. However(as is my experience) it will take much MUCH longer to do it. Think it took us 14 hours to get from Glasgow-ish to Milton Keynes, so 25 hours max, with a 2-2.5 hour gig as well, with no sleep, really would be pushing it.
Good luck to you, though. |
It sorta handles ok on the motorway, it'll do upper 70's sitting around 3500rpm. A bit loud, but do-able.
I see what your saying about journey time. Mapquest showed up 7.25 hours, so i rekoned it would be a minumum of 9 being realistic. Agghh....i dunno. The more i think about it the more im getting put off it! |
i say do it , will it really matter if your a few hours late? it'd be a great story to tell :p

ah right :p i still say do it , you could stop at a service station to get some sleep or summat?

Having driven from nr Bath to Yorkshire and back in the small day. I would say its bloody risky. Yes it's do able, but driving while tired is madness.
Sorry for sounding like an old women, but all that driving down, 2 hours min of gig, then the hassle of getting out of the car park and driving all that way back. Not safe in my humble opinion. Do you have any other options. Sleep in the car till morning? I understand that the roads while be quiet on the way back but it's still dodgy. Sorry didn't read post properly, tired myself just got back from Ashton Gate. Yes you could do it, but you need to sleep!!! |
The Caledonian Sleeper from Glasgow to London is £19. That'll be much cheaper than the petrol you'll go through. Plus you'd get to spend the day in London, go to a pub, then sleep on the way back to Glasgow.

Caledonian Sleeper would have been perfect, no availability though =[
had no idea how cheap it was though! |
