What's rare anymore?

Ok, Seb said this in the London Night Two Thread:

That's 5 rare songs in one show. How many have we heard over 2 nights in Twickenham? Right 3, spread over 2 nights.

Ok, let me first state I'm NOT trying to pick some sort of fight with Seb, nor is this thread specifically about London. Rather, it's about what constitutes a rare song. Is Always still a rare song? I think so. Yes, it's become a semi-regular in Europe, but before that it hadn't been played for (nary a handful of times in 01 and 03) 10 years. Does 12 or so performances really make up for that? What about a song like Any Other Day? It's barely been played, especially when compared to other LH songs. I'm not trying argue. i just think that the band has pulled out so many good songs in Europe this past month, that people's opinions are being a bit skewed.
Maybe I'm just a jealous American. ;)

I think "rarity" of songs can only be judged tour by tour. You can't say 'Raise Your Hands' is a rare track if you're talking about the OWN Tour for instance, however, it hasn't cropped up much this tour and before the OWN Tour it was pretty much obsolete too.

It's all down to the tour you're talking about and people's differing opinions I guess.

Ah interesting topic, and something I've been considering today.

Some would say Twickenham 1 was a "standard" setlist - but it included Dry County, Diamond Ring and Always! Two months ago that was absolutely inconceivable.

I was lucky enough to see Always performed four times I think on this tour, but only recently I had resigned myself to the fact that the band would never play the song in it's original version again.

Hopefully during the shows in the USA, you guys will have Always as regularly as we have had it, plus maybe at least two of these songs every night - Hey God, Damned, Lie to Me, Something to Believe In, I Believe, Wild is the Wind, Lay Your Hands On Me, etc.

Then we could have the prospect of an absolutely mindblowing Madison Square Garden DVD as long as the guys keep performing at a high standard.

well i would say based on amount palyed(sureley that defines a raity!) we got over two nights of twickers.

1.Dry County
2.I Believe
3.Diamond Ring
4.Hallejuliah
5.AOD
6.ILTT(only played 3 times in europe i think?)
7.Blood Money
8.Sat Night(thats been pretty rare)
9.Twist and shout in full
10.Always Original.

now i know most of those aint amazing but i make that a few more rare songs than seb says.

I'd die for you and Wild In the streets continues to be rarities every tour except WITS was played alot on the Bounce tour.

RS8MB0R8 06-30-2008 02:54 AM

^^ And the OWN Tour.

I saw 'Make a Memory' at Coventry - this wouldn't appear rare to Americans but it didn't get played much over here in Europe, so I think it is a rarity.

'I Believe', 'Living in Sin' and 'Aint a Love Song' are the three biggest rarities I would like to hear, beyond REAL hard core rarities like 'Silent Night' and anything else from the first two albums.

I think 'Never Say Goodbye' has reached rarity status now - a lovely concert closer but they never seem to do it anymore.

For me, what would be considered rare would actually be songs that haven't been played since they began, meaning the first two records. Now, those would also be considered, "no way in hell" songs, lol!!

For the US, rare is actually anything from TD or the non hits from KTF.

According to Seb's site, I'd Die for You was played 25 times and Wild in the Streets played 17 times. Both fairly regular I guess.
