If you're going to delete spam (as you should), without deleting the whole "conversation" (i.e. people replying to what spammers said), you get these snippets of replies to posts that aren't there anymore, and THAT is what is confusing.;)

But anyway, this is off topic again...

If people put them on their ignore list or just ignored them then that wouldn't happen. Easy.

Whether the spam adds to the post or not, the fact is that the original post, and more, have actually been deleted. Which makes this thread somewhat pointless and confusing

That's the best solution so far! Better than creating unfair polls and whatnot. It would save you mods a lot of trouble too.

And now this thread is even harder to follow......

No, the best solution would be for you to stop spamming away.

And Walrus - well, I'm sorry, but we can't - and won't - sift through these people's posts. If they stopped spamming their genuine posts wouldn't be deleted. It's up to them, not us.

Good call.

Alright, so I'm fairly positive that they've got the message now ... if they spam, they will be mass deleted. Can we not now have a trial period with no deletions, to see how that goes?

I mean, I was away from the board for ... about 4 days, and I come back and find that in by absence there's been a poll about this, and that suddenly entire threads are being decimated by mass deletions. Sure, reading through pages of spam annoys me too, but I really think that mass deleting posts wherever the conversation gets a little offtopic is a tad heavy-handed

Keeper 07-14-2008 07:17 PM

It's not a little off-topic and the original post of this thread was deleted yesterday after a spam fest.

You seem to have been away for the four key days, but lots of users have been complaining.

Grypweed 07-14-2008 07:20 PM

So can I ask an obvious question? If you're going to delete the original post, wouldn't it make more sense to just delete the whole topic?
