This mass deletion is utterly ridiculous. How the hell are you supposed to figure out what's anyone is talking about?!

You silly people. You all voted to have spam deleted.

Oh no my bad, it was only 21 people out of less than 30.

not at all ,its just confusing to come into a thread to see conversations not making any sense ...

Keeper 07-14-2008 06:51 PM

Do you think the spam actually adds to the thread? What is confusing is people complaining about mass-deleting posts, that's what.

Anyway there are two Tony Bongiovis right? One being Jon's bro (the director) and the other being his cousin (the Powerstation guy)?

If you're going to delete spam (as you should), without deleting the whole "conversation" (i.e. people replying to what spammers said), you get these snippets of replies to posts that aren't there anymore, and THAT is what is confusing.;)

But anyway, this is off topic again...

Keeper 07-14-2008 07:02 PM

If people put them on their ignore list or just ignored them then that wouldn't happen. Easy.

Whether the spam adds to the post or not, the fact is that the original post, and more, have actually been deleted. Which makes this thread somewhat pointless and confusing

That's the best solution so far! Better than creating unfair polls and whatnot. It would save you mods a lot of trouble too.

TheseDays2005 07-14-2008 07:08 PM

And now this thread is even harder to follow......

No, the best solution would be for you to stop spamming away.

And Walrus - well, I'm sorry, but we can't - and won't - sift through these people's posts. If they stopped spamming their genuine posts wouldn't be deleted. It's up to them, not us.

Alright, so I'm fairly positive that they've got the message now ... if they spam, they will be mass deleted. Can we not now have a trial period with no deletions, to see how that goes?

I mean, I was away from the board for ... about 4 days, and I come back and find that in by absence there's been a poll about this, and that suddenly entire threads are being decimated by mass deletions. Sure, reading through pages of spam annoys me too, but I really think that mass deleting posts wherever the conversation gets a little offtopic is a tad heavy-handed

Keeper 07-14-2008 07:17 PM

It's not a little off-topic and the original post of this thread was deleted yesterday after a spam fest.

You seem to have been away for the four key days, but lots of users have been complaining.

Grypweed 07-14-2008 07:20 PM

So can I ask an obvious question? If you're going to delete the original post, wouldn't it make more sense to just delete the whole topic?

Captain Walrus 07-14-2008 07:23 PM

I read the original thread. Are you talking about the posts where Goldsausage said about being ill? Although that's obviously not on topic, and I agree that he probably should realise that that's the sort of stuff which is annoying people, I don't think two or three posts constitutes a "spam fest".

Keeper 07-14-2008 07:24 PM

Erm - perhaps, but that's not how mass-deleting works ;)

Keeper 07-14-2008 07:28 PM

Walrus - It wasn't only this thread and it wasn't only yesterday. These users had been warned about what would happen if they didn't keep it quiet and on-topic and stop spamming. They ignored the warnings so mass-deletion started. It's not necessarily that this particular thread was THE spam fest.

Honestly, ask most users here and you see they are not complaining about the mass-deletion, even if it leaves beheaded posts around like this one.

Captain Walrus 07-14-2008 07:36 PM

How can you be sure that most users are happy with it? It only started a couple of days ago, that's hardly enough time to gauge a proper reaction. And it's also not, IMO, enough time to see if the spammers can change their ways.

The idea of mass deletion is stupid in my opinion. Threads like this, with all of the important posts removed, are a hundred times worse than threads that drift into some personal conversation

I believe the real solutions to this problem should be one of these:

a) Encourage users who are annoyed to put the users who annoy them on their ignore list
b) Create more moderators, enough so that the spam can be properly sifted through
c) Use the system of official warnings and infractions instead of mass deletion. And don't be so heavy handed as to abolish ALL personal conversation ... that would hinder the community spirit of this board, not help it

All of those are infinitely preferable to what's going on at the moment

Keeper 07-14-2008 08:06 PM

We did sift initially! But as they didn't care or kept on reporting whatever it was they'd written we just took the mass-deletion step. And let me tell you it's NOT been a couple of days.

Goldsausage 07-14-2008 08:21 PM

I elect The Walrus to be a mod on this board! He knows how to handle us reckless souls.

On that note, you're not exactly helping yourself. You've been acting like a bit of a dick every time you've been called out about this, is it really that difficult just to say "sorry, I know it's annoying, I'll try to stop doing it", and actually follow through on that, rather than making some kind of smart arse remark?

Goldsausage 07-14-2008 08:45 PM

I tried. I failed.

Captain Walrus 07-14-2008 08:48 PM

How difficult can it be not to take up page after page of a valid thread with random chat?

Goldsausage 07-14-2008 08:50 PM

Hard when the conversation is an enjoyable (for I and the other participating person).

They're not even that bad now, the threads just get spammed cos of arguments now not cos of open conversations.

bjmjpl 07-14-2008 08:57 PM

yeah i dont really understand what is happening but i was a part of this live discussion and it was started and added to by jade4jovi and she doesnt have one post in here AND HER QUESTION STARTED THE WHOLE THING...she didnt understand something that others may not have and that whole entire point has been lost...

how can that be the answer to a questionable problem at best....

lets just agree to try to stay on topic and not go all orwellian here folks, its a bon jovi board...

just breathe....

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! What the hell happend?!

There was no spam in this thread, the last time I looked. I was making a genuine thread, asking a genuine question. This has gone well too far. But I can't ever say anything about it, because it's just locked/deleted. Tell me seriously why this thread had to be deleted. It was the same as any other thread on here, without spam. WTF. The Mods are just completley picking on us now, lol...pathetic.

Nobody's opinions even counted. It was just the Mods. Nobody said they wanted every post to be deleted. Every thread and post, that was on topic. This thread was on topic. Minus Oli saying he was Ill and me saying "o......k! Any suggestions, like yours - are also ignored.

Mods are doing a great job really.

I'm pissed. I make a genuine thread, wanting a genuine answer. I do not spam in it (minus like 1 off topic post) and this happens. It is NOT FAIR. And also out "talk shit" thread in the Games forum (which we keep being told to taker our "spam" in there) was edited and closed by some Mod. We're told to take it in there, but then it's still closed.

This mass deletion does not work. When is the message gonna get across?

No, you kept on talking about other people's post. You had your chance, Jade, and all you did was point your finger at other people.

Most users and the Mod team could ask you and your friends the exact same question.

WTF?! No, I didn't. Even a few people in this thread, has said there was nothing wrong with it. It was no different to any other thread, that goes a little off topic. IT HAD 2 OR 3 LITTLE OFF TOPIC POSTS. I can show you other threads/posts that should also be deleted, if this is what you're going by. It's unbelieveable. Plenty of threads go slightly off topic (and I'm talking about by other members, not us so-called spammers.) But you don't care about that.

You also ignored the suggestions AGAIN. Other members aren't happy with the mass deletion thing either. Stop deleting all my posts/threads that are on topic. Stop making me have to argue, and make these posts. Then see what happens. There are other people going off topic a lot too. But they don't get this treatment, lol. But you've made your point. So stop deleting everything, and then see how we behave. I can't speak for Oli, but I was already stopping anyway. Everyone said how less "MSNy" I had got.

I'd like to add, one more time - whicever Mod kept editing our posts in the "talk shit" thread, and closed it - was not meant to do that. If they were, why wasn't Kev's little gangbang thread edited and closed, hm?

So, for the sake of other members, even yourself, if not me - could you please stop this mass deletion?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your first post. But anyway, those are the risks of mass-deletion. You can't spam away and hope for someone else to clean after you and sift through your constant chatter. Spamming away means not filtering through posts. This has been explained like a thousand times.

If you post ON TOPIC and rationally your genuine posts will stay in places. It's as EASY as that.

Many aren't happy either about the spamming, dear.

The mod editing your posts at least put some content in them, which you should be thankful for.

Mass-deletion will stop when you behave like the rest of the users. Or do you see anyone else's posts being mass-deleted?

Seriously, self-control is not that bad, you should try it.

Goldsausage 07-14-2008 10:09 PM

Did anyone notice how I can put my sig and avatar back yet I haven't?

Don't cha think that's good I'm self punishing myself? I do, I do!

jade4jovi 07-14-2008 10:14 PM

Why has my siggy been removed again?!?!?!?! What's that gona do?!?!

OK, I'll start "acting like other posters" and then see what happens. I'd like to add though, other posters do go off topic at times. :)

Goldsausage 07-14-2008 10:16 PM

:o And I looked so damn beautiful in your sig!

DAMN YOU YOU MONSTERS!!!

jade4jovi 07-14-2008 10:18 PM

Really though, it's ridculous. Like not having a siggy is gonna stop me spamming. I want it back!

I already said I'd act like other members. So, could I have my siggy back please, Keeper!

EDIT: Well, I changed it back. Because, without a signature I don't feel like other members. I think this will help me to behave like them, Y'know? :)
