Well, I can't wait until Saturday now. If we play like we did last night, we will thrash Man U.

Well that's fairly debatable. :p

Nah we will if we play like that. Man U haven't been as great as everyone thinks this season. They're beatable, they really are and playing the way we did last night, we could thrash them.

Honestly, one good performance in the CL against a dire Real side and suddenly Liverpool's recent form in the league (including the loss against relegation-threatened Middlesbrough) is forgotten...

Dire Real side? No way, we was just the better team by far. It's not forgotten at all but it takes a good team to beat a team like Madrid and we done it. Our recent form isn't forgotten at all, but as I said before, if we play like we did against Madrid, we will beat you.

Fair enough, you's played very well and served to beat them but Real looked bloody awful and from what I've heard that's about the quality they've been for most of the season.

RS8MB0R8 03-11-2009 09:33 PM

^Exactly. I did say that Liverpool played well but Real were awful and in fairness, had they not had their chances completely crushed by at least one curious decision in the first half, it could have been different. It might not have changed the result but the game could have been a lot closer.

I doubt that, before that we had chance after chance anyway and I still think we would of won without that pen decision.

Apart from us, they were unbeaten since xmas.

Which says a lot for the quality of football in other leagues.

There was a time when winning the Champions League meant playing against the best - teams like Juve and Real were genuinely feared opponents. I miss those days. :(

Now the English league has gotten so strong, it's wrecked the passion of the competition. I was actually disappointed to draw Chelsea in the final of last year's CL, and what's even more unfortunate is that, if it hadn't been them, it would have been another English club. You could argue that they had as much right to be there as United and I wouldn't dispute that but it's just a bit of a let down when the European crown is decided between two teams from the same domestic league - where's the soul in that?

I hate getting English clubs in Champs... It's just like a prem game tbh. It's just not exciting.

KeepTheFaith2211 03-12-2009 06:03 PM

And it's always Liverpool v Chelsea! Not being nasty or anything but that game happens about 8 times a season,

Gunners fan 'stabbed' in Rome :(

An Arsenal supporter is believed to have been stabbed after his minibus was attacked by Roma fans before Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie.

The minibus in which the fan was travelling is understood to have lost its way en route to the Stadio Olimpico for the second leg encounter.

Roma fans started to attack the vehicle before one is alleged to have got on to the bus when the situation escalated.

The victim was able to watch the game, which Arsenal won in a dramatic penalty shoot-out, after receiving medical care.

A British Embassy spokesman said: "One managed to get on to the bus and there was a fight.

"The driver managed to get away when the Roma fan was pushed out of the bus."

He added: "We don't know if it was a stabbing or glass from a smashed window."

An Arsenal spokeswoman said: "A male Arsenal fan was believed to be stabbed outside the stadium.

"Roma fans threw stones at a bus, smashing windows, and an individual allegedly entered the bus and stabbed a fan."

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the incident that happened in Italy and we are providing consular assistance."

The incident could again raise questions over Rome's ability to stage this season's Champions League final in May at the Stadio Olimpico.

If you look at Champions League history, there was always some kind of dominance, either from a team alone or from a league. Real Madrid winning the first 5. Ajax Amsterdam and Bayern Munich duopoly in the 70s, Liverpool and Not. Forrest in the 80s, Italian supremacy in the early to mid-90s. The only time when it was even was the mid-90s to the mid 00s.

Between 1995 and 2005 you had:
1x Portugese finalist
1x French finalist
2x Dutch teams
2x English teams
4x German teams
5x Spanish teams
7x Italian teams in the finals.

As you see...quite evened out. It's just since 2006 that the Premiership teams dominate like that, it's basically since money has been pumped into the league by foreign investors... which I personally don't find fair at all. Other leagues have laws which don't allow something like that to happen. However, that's how the dice roles now, it will change, I am sure.

This year already!

It does my head in.

RS8MB0R8 03-12-2009 09:42 PM

I guess I take it for granted that European football should be about similarly matched teams from various leagues - I grew up with it between the mid-90s - mid-00s so it's a shame that it's devolved so much in my eyes. :(

It sounds cheesy but the whole romance of the competition has died somewhat.

Even I know it isn't the same as it used to be. Just hearing it from me dad and other people shows how good it used to be. It still is good I think, but it's going downhill somewhat but i'm not complaining if we win it :D

liljovi93 03-14-2009 03:49 PM

2-1 at half time :)

Definite pen for us. Not too sure about Man U's tbh but oh well.

Hopefully we can keep it up.

severo17 03-14-2009 04:49 PM

4-1 for Liverpool... :o

I wasn't really expecting this result :(
Oh well, I'm happy for you James :p

Yeah, It is good to beat them.

RS8MB0R8 03-14-2009 08:14 PM

We played crap - Liverpool played well and deserved to beat us from the sounds of it - well done. I didn't see it as I was up in Dundee all day but the officials at the match seemed to have a good game from all reports so no complaints there. Liverpool were just much better than us today.

The only positive thing to come from it is that, if we're gonna drop points, we may as well do it against our closest rivals. It sounds strange to put it like that but because we lost badly to Liverpool, we keep our game in hand so the seven point parity can be restored if we manage to win that one.

I still can't believe Vidic had such a shocker though. :(

To be honest, they didn't play that bad, we just caught them on them break. Your defence had a shocker, well Vidic did.

KeepTheFaith2211 03-14-2009 09:15 PM

WTF happened today? :| 4-1? Can't wait for MOTD!

RS8MB0R8 03-14-2009 09:34 PM

Suffice to say, Vidic's hopes of clinching the 'Player of the Season' award might have been dealt a bit of a blow today!

Benitez signed new contract until 2014.. woooo!

zero_zero_UFO 03-19-2009 12:07 AM

I always say that it doesn't matter if you lose by 1 or 10 you still lost.....Forest lost *cough*5-0*cough* at the weekend.

I guess that way of thinking falls down if the relegation places are decided by goal difference. But hey ho, we'll see. 7 games to go :o

Oh, I'm so happy Rafa signed contract.

Man UTD can afford to lose a game every now and then

RS8MB0R8 03-21-2009 05:56 PM

This is just f*cking embarrassing and they should be ashamed of themselves. To say that the way United are playing at the moment is relegation form would be doing teams in the bottom three a disservice. They look like a frightened team playing school boy football - it's a joke!

Ronaldo is seriously starting to piss me off too! What a twat! Arrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh!

liljovi93 03-21-2009 07:04 PM

Made up with the result. Both were sendings off imo.

Clear handball and Rooney lost his temper and threw the ball like a spoilt brat.

RS8MB0R8 03-21-2009 07:13 PM

Agree - a few of the United team need to damned well grow up! Ronaldo should have been off for his two-footed challenge as well.

The only positive thing - Tottenham are currently 1-0 up against Chelsea. Otherwise, a very bad day. :(

Yeah, I'm happy with Chelsea result up to now.

Ronaldo is an idiot. If he gets "fouled", he rolls across the floor for nothing.
If something doesn't go his way, he spits his dummy out and goes mad instead of trying to get the ball back!

liljovi93 03-21-2009 07:24 PM

Tottenham win :)
