We would however have to try and keep the guy injury free, who has spent the majority of the last 3-4 years on the sidelines in one way or another. Moyes needs to be ruthless in this Transfer Window. Our attacking options are pretty limited and we need to bring in another out and out goalscorer who is going to get us 15-20 goals a season. It will be nice to have Yakubu back next season too! :)

Jo has been an okay player for us, but lets be honest, he is still yet to set the Premiership alight. Sorry, but he isn't worth the £18M asking fee. Jamaine Beckford from Leeds has just been transfer listed as he refused to sign a 3 year extention to his existing contract. Not sure how he would deal with playing in the countries top division though. May be worth a shot at around £4M or £5M and we all know how Moyes looks at the lower divisions for tallent... :)

For now...3 days till Wembley!

Agreed that Owen would be worth a punt on a free, and on a more modest wage too. I really hope the Yak can come back as good as prior to his injury. His running and work-rate were never his strong points, but he knew how to score so fingers crossed for a quick return.

Jo would also be worth another loan if that was a possibility, but i too don't rate him worth anything like the fee City paid. I know we were after Kevin Kuranyi from Schalke? He would be worth a gamble if the fee was reasonable or better still, if a loan deal could be struck. ;)

Kev, are you going to Goodison this weekend? If not, why not? If so, see you there.

Yeah I heard the same and I think Thompson deffo made something out of nothing.

Speakin about Liverpool it's been reported in the press that Rafa has told Babel he can begin lookin for another club. Personally I like Babel, but if he's only ever gonna be used as a squad player and make the odd apperance from the bench, then I think we should let him go and try and get a decent fee for him.

I really liked the look of Babel last season, but this season he has been awful. I thought that this season might of been his time to shine, but it wasn't. He doesn't look interested anymore. I must admit though, he played brilliant against Madrid and mad Ramos look like a conference player.

Personally, I think we should keep Babel until January. See if he is any better, if not, sell!

2 days to go!

Well this thread hasn't had many posts in the last few days ... :p

RS8MB0R8 06-02-2009 07:11 PM

What do we reckon to the transfer speculation then?

I always like to keep up with all the tabloid hypothesising, although there hasn't been anything major spoken about yet just a lot of empty rumours flying about.

Will Ronaldo leave? Will Barry choose City or Liverpool? Does Ancelotti seriously think he can tempt Kaka to Stamford Bridge?...

JerseyboyUK 06-03-2009 02:02 AM

Gareth Barry signs for Manchester City for £12m on a five year deal.

After 11 years at the Villa, and being a great leader and one of the most consistent performers in the Premiership. No Villa fan would blame him for wanting to leave to go to Liverpool or another Champions League team somewhere. He's put on top-class performances year after year, but he needs to be playing at the highest level at this stage of his career.
I reckon he would have still got a great reception upon his return next season.

But...

...he has left to join a team of misfits that had to scrap for a top-ten place this season, didnt come close to challenging for ANYTHING, and are not in Europe at all next season (let alone the Champions league!).

Gareth Barry, you money-grabbing little swine!!

Can't wait to hear how much he is getting. How the hell can he say he wants to leave to play Champions League footy and then go to City! Maybe he thinks they have potential or something, I don't know. It's all about the money.

Jeeper 06-04-2009 03:23 AM

I think Barry will regret his move to City when they are still mid table/top 8 come the end of next season. I can't f*cking stand Mark Hughes the mopey miserable bastard. Hope he gets the bullet soon.

Lmao @ Tony Adams making a total tit of himself about the Celtic job.

RS8MB0R8 06-04-2009 10:49 AM

The only thing I can think of is that Barry has been told exactly who their targets are this summer and he's convinced (or been convinced) that they will have a competitive team by the start of next season. If that's not the case then I agree, he's a money-grabbing b*stard who's pretty much thrown away any hope of a half-decent England career or ever winning any silverware domestically in order to line his pockets.

As for Tony Adams, I don't think he would have made unfounded claims he had been contacted about the Celtic job if he hadn't been in talks with them. Why would anybody do that?!?

It's blatantly media spin to cause a stir and he either never made the claims in the first place or Celtic have been talking to him and the media is trying say they are denying it. I vote for the former and I hate how vindictive the media is when it comes to defamation of character.

Place your bets on where Kaka will end up though. The last I heard Real offered £63m and Chelsea have come in with £73.5m.

Personally, I'd like to see United oust Ronaldo to Real and step in to the mix to sign Kaka - but then I would rather see Kaka at Old Trafford than the likes of Real or Chelski to be honest! :D

liljovi93 06-04-2009 02:07 PM

I agree with you about Barry.

Liverpool tried to put a bid in at the last minute but he had already passed his medical AND signed. I'm happy we didn't get him because I want Alonso to stay and I think he will now seens as Barry has gone.

Kaka won't leave I don't think. It's his dad/agent who wants him to go so he can get a bit of money.

Rumours have it that Liverpool want Distin for 2m as back up now that Sami Hyypia has left. Meh, not really bothered tbh. How can we keep Skrtel, Agger, Carra & Distin happy?

Lots of transfer news going on. Adebayor could be going to AC, Distin to Liverpool, West Ham want to buy Fanni hahahaha.

Jeeper 06-05-2009 09:36 PM

Everton were linked with Fanni but i believe he prefers a move to Liverpool. He'll be right at home with all the other pussies haha. Ok that was shit.......

I was reading before about the debt Liverpool have. Any of you reds worried?

RS8MB0R8 06-05-2009 10:03 PM

I bet they don't have their new stadium by 2012 that's for sure!

Awful joke. :p

Yeah, I'm worried, but Man U are in 700m debt or something, so not that worried.

As toy our post RS8MBOR8, didn't ever think the staidum would be built by 2012 anyway.

To be honest mate, i think Utd are the exception to the rule. I know they are in debt and have to repay a fortune each year, but their revenue is greater than yours, plus they are continuously successful in terms of trophies. Reading The Echo tonight, it sounds like Liverpool need to be very careful.

Yeah, I know, but they're double in debt that we are. I hate are owners, really really do.

I think Jeeper knows that United are in double the amount of debt than what Liverpool are mate. But the point he is trying to make is that it's still not as critical or worrying for them than what it is for us. And it certainly won't affect or hamper their spending budget during the summer like it will ours. Obviously unless something is done or new investment is brought in. Regarding the new stadium getting built well you're right and building work on it had been delayed until 2012. But from what I've heard that isn't even gonna happen now unless the American clowns are completely bought out and for me the sooner the better.

RS8MB0R8 06-07-2009 11:35 AM

I think it's also a case of, if United do sell Ronaldo, there'll be a lot of cash for new players as a result. I hope they do tbh.

It needs to be sorted no matter what. We could end up getting a 30 point deduction!

RS8MB0R8 06-07-2009 02:22 PM

I'm a little concerned at the noises UEFA are making with regards to potentially prohibiting teams from competing in Europe if they have an unusually large amount of debt on their books. Let's hope that doesn't come up to bite us at some point! :?

UEFA don't like English teams, so it wouldn't suprise me!

Jeeper 06-08-2009 05:31 PM

It just said on SSN that Newcastle have put their entire squad up for sale!

JerseyboyUK 06-08-2009 08:33 PM

Local radio/local newspaper are reporting Villa are closing in on Owen, with a 50K-a-week, 2 year deal.

EDIT: The club have officially dissmissed it as rubbish. Gutted!

Has that away shirt even been confirmed yet? There were quite a few different designs out there and, last I heard, LCS were still in consultation over which to go for. I imagine you're referring to the black one with pink stripes? It seems far too similar to the old LCS Man City shirt to go for really.

I have a new pic of the shirt and it's dead close and clear so it could be it.

There are about 10 different ones. I'm not saying they've been Photoshopped, they're just mock-ups before the final one is decided on. If it is the black and pink shirt, there isn't a chance in hell I'll be buying it.

Ah right. Well yeah, when the first little sketches came out, the home one was correct and that was before it said Le Coq Sportif will be designing. It is a horrible shirt the away one though.

I think it's still a possibility if he's willing to drop his wages. And I've heard that Everton have been competing for him too. Doubt that'll happen though and I can't wait to see where he ends up.

Yeh, Moyes tried to poach him before he went to Newcastle. I think it's to be applauded in one respect, given how popular he was at Liverpool but also think he's not really doing himself any favours ruling us out, given that nobody else seems to want him. Benitez doesn't like him, none of the other Big 4 want him and, seemingly, Villa have distanced themselves. Where's he going to end up; on the scrap-heap at that other player boneyard, Tottenham?

If he still has ambitions of playing for England, he might have to swallow his pride and come to us; shouldn't be too difficult given that he grew up a Blue.

The only thing is, Everton need a striker who doesn't get injured.... Owen does!

That's very true. We can't be taking a risk on another Saha who could get you 20 goals a season or could equally spend most of it on the sidelines.

Yeah, although Owen is still a good finisher, it's rare for him to be fit.

Everton should try and get Daniel Sturridge. He's a good one for the future and knows were the net is. Out of contract now as well. Or has he signed for someone else?

Jeeper 06-11-2009 03:48 AM

Good result and a reasonable performance form England against a piss poor team. Good to see Lescott get a game. He should have scored too!

RS8MB0R8 06-11-2009 10:35 AM

Yeah, I'm just a little concerned that they're squandering too many chances. The flip side is they converted six but that doesn't tell nearly the whole story. When you compete against teams of Italy's, France's, Brazil's or Argentina's quality, you have to make every chance count because you aren't going to get that many in a game.

Only a few of the passing moves put together by England last night would have cut apart a well drilled defence and I don't think they actually converted any of them - predominantly because Walcott ended up as the man with the last touch and he's about as hit-and-miss as Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard are the ones that have to bring the quality to the game as Johnson, although brilliant last night, will not get the free reign against better opposition without us being caught out at the back on the counter. I did think Beckham played a fantastic role sitting back and playing long, cross-field passes to the wings as anytime England forced Andorra back so far that there was little room to manoeuvre, they could pass it back to him to spread the play. That said, we were missing Ferdinand too and, with he and Terry both fit and able for South Africa next year, the likes of Cole and Johnson can push on knowing they have that defensive pairing behind them.

I really hope that Hargreaves gets himself fit and in contention for his England spot next year too as he is a first choice starter for me and a shame he's missing so much for United due to his knee complaints. I did wonder tobh as to why Ferguson even bothered buying him form Bayern as he's as about as reliable as Owen is for injuries. :(
