Dry County solo - not that good!
I've noticed after a while on this board, and other ones, that the guitar solo in Dry County is widely regarded as Richies best. I have to disagree though. Although the first solo is really quite beautiful, I don't think that the second solo is all that great.
I mean, fair enough, there's a lot of fast playing in there, but nothing that technically great, and melodically speaking, he's done quite a few solos better than that. In my honest opinion, I'd have to say that Let it Rock is easily his best solo technically. I don't really know why I'm saying this, but after a long time reading posts saying how great the solo is, I thought I'd just share my opinion, so there we go................ Bye now!! |
i think the 2nd solos' acclaim is helped by the fact that dry county is such an epic of the song...and the prelude to the solo is just amazing (especially live)...it is an awesome solo, techincally, let it rock is better as is tokyo road, but the speed and emotion he gets outta DC is just breathtaking.

The first solo is OK, but the second is damn amazing. Like Jag said, it is much better live with the prelude (check out my signature).
I have 1 particular live version, (again look at my signature), and it is my favourite Bon Jovi live track EVER. I don't know where the version is from, but I think I downloaded it from drycounty a while ago. |

Cymru Rocks
I'm just happy to see somebody else on here from Wales! You, Davesta, are the only other person on here that I have seen from the Worlds 2nd greatest country!

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Not that great? Yeah right, it's very technically difficult and has so many changes to it. Even on the solo albums the only thing that comes close to it is Who I Am, a part where he holds a note for about 12 seconds.

You would really have to know guitars to know what this guy is talking about. He is completely right about the Dry County solo. It's fast but not technically excellent or challenging. Let it Rock will blow it out of the water, so will My Guitar Lies Bleeding in my Arms, Little bit of soul, Tokyo Road, Only Lonely and many others...

I don't know anything about the technical stuff, but I do know, that I love the solo from Dry County, and I just think it's their best song ever. It doesn't bother me, if a solo is technical difficult, it just has to sound good!

:snipersm: :2gunfire: Lol R U serious?? The DC solo (IMO) is amazing - the build up is great & as with most of Richies Solos - it just hits the spot (I don't judge solos on there technical ability - as the simplest can often be the best). i don't think the first is anything special - just standard BJ Richie fare, but the way it all builds up & then kicks off....... Amazing is the one word I'd use to describe it. Mike |
