The thing that gets me about Coldplay is they seem to be made out to be one of the greatest bands ever by the media and fans etc., and I just don't see that about them at all.

Sure, it's all opinions - but most reviews I've read hail them as geniuses and stuff like that - which is kinda' going a bit far.

And I think Chris Martin's pretty arrogant these days. I remember reading an interview with him in Q about maybe 8 or 9 years ago when really, they were nobody - I think this was even before "Yellow" had become a hit - and they were just playing all the European festivals. From that interview they came across as pretty humble guys - they mentioned Bon Jovi a lot and seemed to have a lot of respect for them and it was clear that they would consider themselves to have done well if they even had a slither of that kind of success...A decade later - well, Chris Martin just comes across as a total egomaniac.

The first single off of their new album I thought was the biggest pile of rubbish I've heard in a long time - and Jade I think we've discussed their lyrics before in chat, and even in my favourite song by them, Clocks, I think the lyrics are actually quite silly and do nothing at all for me.

To me, the only songs that comes close to be being good are Clocks and Fix You. The rest I think are whiny, bland, and just lacking something - call it a soul maybe.

Saw them live and that's just not true, they are good at delivering their material live, wether you like the material itself or not is another issue.

Joe Satriani Sues Coldplay for Cold Plagiarism
By Dave Itzkoff

While it’s hard to imagine that anyone could effectively imitate the sound of the rock-guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, Mr. Satriani seems to hear more than just his influence in the music of others. Reuters reported that on Thursday, he filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the British rock quartet Coldplay, which says that the Coldplay song “Viva La Vida” makes use of “substantial original portions” of his composition “If I Could Fly,” an instrumental track. The suit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles County, is asking for a jury trial, damages, and any profits Coldplay gained from the song. On Wednesday, “Viva La Vida” was nominated for Grammy Awards for song of the year and record of the year.

I used to hate them, but now I like Coldplay. They're a good band, nothing more, nothing less. I don't really care if they ripped off some song, everyone does it. Their last two albums have been complete shit, but they've got some good/great songs on all of them, especially the first two.

Good band for a bit of soft rock, really.

I never got the hype with Coldplay but I don't hate them either. The Scientist is quite special to me.

CCTV Baidu Search Engine Fraud Exposed skf bearings

Following repeated press reports of fraudulent online marketing, CCTVskf bearings reports it now has evidence that Chinese Internet search engine Baidu.com (BIDU) is engaged in dubious activities.fag bearings In a recent news program, CCTV cited a game player surnamed Han as saying that Baidu ranked websites based on the money they paid regardless of the service quality the website provided to netizens. Han, a computer game fan, said he contacted a website that ranked at the top of Baidu's search engine to buy some game coins. He paid CNY600 for the coins, but was not given any reply from the seller and realized he was cheated by that website. Han was angry that Baidu.com would place such a cheating website at the top position of its search engine ranking.nsk bearingsCurrently most of the search engine service providers are providing search marketing services based on the amount of fees that clients pay instead of the quality of the service they provide or the amount of links back to the website, which is how Google's algorithm generally works. All these problems have resulted in a crisis of credibility for these search engine operators and has posed a bottleneck for the development of the search industry in China.timken bearings Legal experts quoted in local media say that there is not a law to regulate the behavior of the search engine service providers, so the only thing they can do is to suggest consumers not to rely too much on the search results of those search engines.ball bearings Furthermore, it appears that Baidu itself should not be held accountable for the behavior of its advertising clients. While the search engine firm should do the responsible thing and investigate Han's claims and perhaps remove the website in question as a client, buyers of online services should always take steps to ensure they have done their research prior to engaging in online commerce.

This is the band I hate most.. Terrible, terrible band.

Jim Bon Jovi 12-06-2008 01:37 PM

the 1st few bars are nigh on identical but the rest.......

it's a simple progression and a really contrite melody when you get down to it so i really doubt it's been done on purpose.

i think the funniest thing about this whole situation is that it actually sounds like a karaoke version of the coldplay tune.

Captain Walrus 12-06-2008 04:48 PM

Coldplay are alright. I don't own any of their albums, but most of their singles are pretty good. There's any number of bands I like much better, but that doesn't mean I dislike Coldplay

It does, especially when you listen to both of them at the same time! That being said, they are obviously similar so I hope Satriani gets awarded some dough because I'm sure that ass Chris Martin has made quite a bit on that song.

Well you may be in luck because I remember reading an article recently from Chris Martin saying that they were going to retire soon because he thinks bands that exist past their mid 30s are out of their prime. I guess since they are nearing that point only time will tell if he's serious or full of shit.
