Bon Jovi makes Top 10 in music's biggest earners 2008

Just in case someone is interested:

AC/DC was the only rock band to make the Top Five in the Los Angeles Times' list of 2008's "Ultimate Top 20," an annual survey that combines sales of concert tickets, albums, and downloads to measure the popularity of acts with consumers. Other rock acts to make the Top 10 included Coldplay, Bon Jovi, and Bruce Springsteen, while Metallica, Dave Matthews, and Kid Rock made the overall list.

Regarding AC/DC, who earned a total of $82 million, the Times wrote, "The new Black Ice album took the veteran Australian hard rock band back to the top of the charts and also made its concert tour one of the year's hot tickets."

The Times also noted both AC/DC and Kid Rock largely do not sell their music digitally.

The Los Angeles Times' 2008 "Ultimate Top 20" and their earnings are:
1. Madonna ($120.1 million)
2. Celine Dion ($106.8 million)
3. Kenny Chesney ($95.7 million)
4. Eagles ($90.7 million)
5. AC/DC ($82 million)
6. Coldplay ($81.6 million)
7. Bon Jovi ($81.4 million)
8. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band ($79 million)
9. Jonas Brothers ($77.9 million)
10. Rascal Flatts ($77.1 million)
11. Neil Diamond ($70.5 million)
12. Taylor Swift ($62.2 million)
13. Michael Buble ($59.5 million)
14. Metallica ($56.4 million)
15. Carrie Underwood ($54.9 million)
16. Dave Matthews Band ($51.6 million)
17. The Police ($51 million)
18. Lil Wayne ($50.8 million)
19. Tom Petty ($50.5 million)
20. Kid Rock ($50. 2 million)

So where does the $210 million they grossed on the LH tour figure?

I found the actually LA Times article - http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/musi...a-acdc-an.html - and I think it must be talking about North America even though I missed that if it comes right out and says so. The blurb about Jovi certainly isn't talking about the whole tour - http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...allery?index=7.

Is there anything more "creative" than music industry accounting?

She's right here :D

With the above mentioned creative accounting of the music industry it could be a matter of which months they are adding up as to weather Jon or Bruce came out on top. In any case - I have never felt it was a competition between Jon and Bruce (or Southside for that matter). We are very lucky here to have all 3 and they should all be appreciated for what they do best.

On the other hand I do have a complaint. Madonna & Celine Dion as the top two ??? What saccharine stuff they do (IMO) - how can they sell that well?

Well, I'm not really a fan of their music but when you think about it, it's somewhat understandable. Madonna has been a big sell, tour after tour and she's able to di that with relatively high ticket prices. Also someone can correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Celine Dion have on of those Vegas casino contracts where she has shows nightly?

she did have one of those (for the past couple of years) but im pretty sure that ended last year, and the tour in question was a world tour
