Indeed not. How tragic, only 36 years old at that.

I'm relieved to hear that they will still be playing on Thursday night at the RR HOF show at Madison Square Garden - especially since I'm going.

Right, Oli's insisting that I get into Bruce Springsteen gigs, so I thought I might as well conceed as I love live music, and when it comes to live music, Bruce is better than most.

Anyway, after that War And Peace-alike sentence, I might as well get to the point of this post;

What bootlegs should I get?

Oli linked me to one but it didn't feature many of my favourite Bruce songs. Was wondering if anyone could help me out with a couple of bootlegs that might appeal to somebody who's not quite a casual fan but not a diehard either :)

Do you have a favorite couple of songs or a favorite album? I could then recommend boots based on the music.

Or I could just recommend the best f u c king boots of all time :)

Nebraska is to die for. First - you should probably register at Jungleland:

http://jungleland.dnsalias.com/

There is lots of great stuff posted there but you do have to keep a minimum ratio of uploading to downloading.

Second - do you have access to a binary newsgroup account? If so - ABMS - or alt.binary.music.springsteen is the best invention. Here you can just pick and choose and download at will. If you need a tutorial on how to access binaries I'll post one here.

And let me start with some official live stuff that you should listen to.

1. Live 1975 - 1985 It's a compilation of some of the best shows and bootlegs from that era - pristine sound - and many electric Nebraska songs.

2. Live from New York City (2000) - both an album and a 2 DVD set. If you can get both - go for it. Try e-bay or half.com for cheap versions since these have been out for awhile.

If this stuff doesn't get you - no bootleg will :)

Thanks very much. It seems I'm already a member of Jungleland...god knows when I signed up. I'll check out that newsgroup thing too.

I already have Live 1975-185 and will be sure to get that New York one.

Here's a best bootleg in any category:

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
The Roxy Theater, Los Angeles, CA – July 7, 1978 [FM Broadcast]
With the famous war cry “Bootleggers, roll your tapes,” Bruce personally guarantees a classic bootleg. The Roxy’s on fire, bending to the Boss’ every word. The venue’s intimate setting (500 capacity), combined with Bruce’s energy, make for an electrifying night and contender for best show of all time, as the band sounds tighter than ever and the crowd sings along to “Spirit In The Night.”

It may be on Jungleland in this form:

Title: No Private Party - Roxy 1978
Label: Ev2
Format: 3CD
Source: FM Broadcast
Date: July 7, 1978
Location: The Roxy Theater, Los Angeles, CA

Wow -- great list, Kathleen. Thanks! Because they've been on tour and I've been busy with the current recordings, I haven't gotten into the old stuff like I'd like to. This would be a good way to tackle it.
