ive got the greatest hits playing in my car just now.
i was driving to the boxing gym with my brother tonight and he said it's amazing how he can cover so much ground and still be brilliant. you go from born to run to dancing in the dark to the river to blood brothers, streets, atlantic city etc... i can't think of any band that can do that i mean we all know what happened when bon jovi turned their amps off. |

It's a shame we won't be able to meet up but in time there should be another Jovi tour :D. Anyway, I'm pretty excited about the show and I hope it won't be my last time seeing the band with the same members! |
OMG -- my turn is finally here! Bruce . . . in Atlanta . . . TONIGHT!

Land of Hope & Dreams (w/Jay) 24. American Land (w/Jay) 25. Detroit Medley 11:03 OMG. Darkness on the Edge of Town. Trapped. Jungleland. At my first Bruce show. The Ghost of Tom Joad. The Wrestler. Hard Times. Definitely NOT my last Bruce show. OMG. I've started this paragraph over and over again. I can't even come up with sentences that make sense! LOL The whole experience is still racing through my brain, and I'm completely overwhelmed. The sheer power of the sound was the first thing that hit me. The bootlegs I've listened to prepared me for a lot, but not for that. The sound is just immense. It hits you almost like a physical blow. And then there's the quality of the sound. What amazing musicians. And Bruce lets them PLAY. Nils Lofgren's solo in Tom Joad. Clarence Clemons' solo in Jungleland. Stunning work by Jay Weinberg on Radio Nowhere. Dear God, PLEASE let there be a recording of this show! I had a terrific ticket for this show (just got lucky with Ticketmaster), and even though I'll probably never have one as good, I'm glad I had the opportunity to be so close at my first show. The level of interaction between the band and the audience is terrific. Every member of the band seems determined to reach out and pull in as many people as possible. And I haven't even mentioned Bruce himself. Wow. That man's fixin' to turn 60? I'm not sure I'm believing that! Bruce toyed with us during the signs portion of the show. He held up one that said Ramrod. I was thrilled with that. Then he turned it around, and I could tell that something else was written on the back of the sign, but I couldn't read it. I guess someone changed their mind about their request, because the side that said Ramrod had obviously been done ahead of time, but on the back Trapped was just written with a skinny marker. I'd have been happy with Ramrod, but Trapped was even better. Bruce added Jungleland because of a sign he saw but didn't pick up during the regular sign collection. He started talking about the sign later and it was passed up to the stage from the very back of the pit or maybe the front of the regular GA area. I'm sure glad someone made that sign! According to the handwritten setlist, No Surrender was a possibility at the end of the main set. It is one of my favorites, and I'd have loved to have heard it . . . but the addition of Jungleland probably knocked it out, and I'm not about to complain about that! A word to those of you in Europe who might get Jay Weinberg on drums when Max has other commitments . . . DO NOT WORRY! I can't believe he's only 18. He did a fantastic job, and he is SO intense. His eyes never leave Bruce, and I swear you could almost see the communication going back and forth between those two. Bruce seems so damn proud of him that you'd think Jay was his own kid. And the crowd loves him. You could feel the goodwill going out as soon as he took over. Everyone wanted him to do well. His first song was Radio Nowhere, and he just killed it. Bruce was beaming, and I thought the buttons were gonna pop off his vest! Yes, Kathleen, I know. You told me all this. I sure wish I hadn't absolutely hated the Nebraska album when I bought it 25+ years ago. And I wish I hadn't waited so long to give Bruce a second chance. Damn it. How many days until the NJ shows? ;) Oh, one small regret -- no photos whatsoever. :( I got my camera into the arena with no problem, but security was all over anyone with a camera or camera phone. Since I was in the first row off the floor, I had a security guy right in front of me. <sigh> Naturally, I was close enough to get super pics and couldn't take a single one. |
Well...as Kathleen and I can say ....told you so....but no won't do that 'cause I remember
what it was like seeing Bruce for the first time (...and second time for that matter...and on and on and on). They're just amazing and HE'S just amazing. Great that you got such good seats for your first show! That makes a difference as well, being able to experience it all up front. So Jay is getting ready for Europe now it seems popping up in the middle of the show Great! Yeah I bet Bruce is proud and Max and all the rest. Just wish Patti would join them in Europe this time around, but I doubt it. |
Really glad you enjoyed the show Terri :D
This is making me even more determined to see the guys live. Just a matter of getting enough money, a ticket and lodging arrangement in Scotland - which I doubt will be easy :/ :( |
I'm glad you had an amazing first show Terri, thats one setlist to be proud of :p
|
Oh Terri - how absolutely great that setlist is. And the thing is, with Bruce, even with a setlist like that, there is still stuff that you wish you heard. That's why we keep going back. That and the high that lasts for days
I didn't know that you had listened to enough bootlegs to really appreciate it but clearly you did. I saw 10 shows on the Magic tour and I didn't hear Trapped - and it's just one of those moments (as is Jungleland). I have to agree about Jay, I saw him play on Born to run last summer at Giants and he was excellent. But that is only one song. The recent two nights in Boston he played on entirely different songs which is the best way to do it. By the time he gets to Europe he will have played most everything. And sure he keeps his eyes on Bruce - would you want to piss off the Boss by missing a cue? LOL. And Annsofie, I think that Patti will join the band in Europe. Bruce told us in Boston that she was thrown from her horse and had some cracked ribs - and that she would miss a few shows. I texted you yesterday Terri - I don't know if you got it. I was so excited about your first show too. I'm so glad you got a good one - though in my experience there are no bad Bruce shows. Some are better than others, that's all. Tomorrow night for me again - whoo hoo. Philly shows are always good. See you in Jersey :D |

Regarding Jay, there's watching Bruce . . . and then there's boring holes in Bruce with your eyes. LOL On the extended drum section at the end of Radio Nowhere, they were locked eye-to-eye through the whole thing to the point that you could almost see the electricity sizzle between them. I wasn't sure who was urging whom on, though! The arena really did go nuts for the kid. The whole band sure seemed to be enjoying the moment, too. Maybe a little very young (but very familiar) blood is a good thing for the band. I forgot to mention that Patti was still absent. Bruce dedicated Kingdom of Days to her again and explained that she was still recoving from 1) the fall from the horse and 2) the whiplash he gave her when he drove her to the hospital. He said she'd be back "soon." Sorry, Kathleen, I didn't get the text because I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't have text at this point. I wish the message would bounce back telling the sender that, but evidently it doesn't. Have a great time in Philly! I can't wait to see what makes those setlists. I sure wish I could go to Greensboro this weekend, but I'll be busy eating that rubber chicken at a banquet at a dog show in Ohio. What sucky timing. Jovi's playing in New Orleans and Bruce is in Greensboro. I could drive to either one without any trouble. |
