Right, here's what my TV guide says
BBC 2 GLASTONBURY: 11:10pm - 2:00am Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band headline That makes it look like they'll be showing the entire Bruce gig. But if his set starts at 10 then :/ **** THE BBC. God dammit. I was looking so forward to it :( |

Actually wait, that could be it actually. Come back David. ALSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - over on BBC3 they are showing every other act there EXCEPT Springsteen, so this leads me to a lil hope that back on BBC2 it'll be the full gig? But I doubt it because everything goes tits up where the BBC is concerned. |

Right, I'm heading off to Hyde Park! See you all down the front :p
|
Last night the BBC showed just under an hour (I think) of Bruce's set, and then took the piss by showing Franz Ferdinand's full set  Absolutely ridiculous. And they barely showed any Neil Young, bastards.
Still, I was at Hyde Park Calling yesterday and saw Neil Young, who was amazing. Paul McCartney joined him onstage for A Day In The Life, and he played a very hit-orientated setlist, so lots of big singalongs. Fleet Foxes were also good, and I bought a shitload of CDs in Fopp round the corner :D Going again for Bruce today. Enjoyed watching his Glasto peformance on telly this morning, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm not a diehard and I doubt I'll know the lyrics for that many of his songs, but should be good nontheless. All the support acts are shite apart from The Gaslight Anthem (and Pretty Things to an extent) so I'm going a bit later. |
Man, the BBC showed a lot more than we all thought last night - but still not enough!
Bruce started at 10, on TV they started showing him at 11, but they showed the start of his set up until I think...Out In The Street? Then they cut to him live which was at Waiting On A Sunny Day, so we missed a good chunk of his set but meh, hopefully the full radio broadcast will be up on Dime tonight :) The performance, of what we saw, was brilliant by the way. There was no doubt in my mind the audience was enjoying it, Bruce was too, looked like a couple of times he tried to crowd surf! Also, they had the song title appear on the screen at every song - but during Thunder Road it said Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out. So it could be any three reasons for that: 1. The BBC are frickin' stupid 2. Bruce was originally going to play Avenue but changed it to Thunder Road 3. The BBC are frickin' stupid And one more lil trivial fact - the night before N.E.R.D went over there time and the bosses cut off the power to their music :p Springsteen went half an hour over the curfew :D They must have seen how much fun everyone was having :) Now I'm even more pumped for Hampden Park! |
Oh and one more thing, the man was steaming. Like litreally, it looked like he was on fire.
|
Bruce gave his all last night, 80% of the crowd didn't know most of the songs so he had to really work them up, considering the distance the crowd were from the stage it was an even harder job.
He succeeded though :flasings: |
One week! still counting
|
Jon was spotted at the side of stage at Bruce's Hyde park show tonight. Rumours of a duet came to nothing though.

In other news, I enjoyed the show, although I'm not sure I felt *the magic*. More detailed notes to hopefully come tomorrow |

And Paul - no magic? - too bad :( |
well i certainly felt the magic, infact i only have three words, In-****ing-Credible:D, i was kinda hoping he'd kick of with london calling and was amazing when he did, i couldnt believe it when he got the jungleland sign out, epic night. Cant wait to get a chance to see em again:D
|
Very special night in Hyde Park. I had a sneaky suspicion that they would open with London Calling too. Delighted when that one kicked in. Also, for my first Bruce show, I hoped that I would get one of Bobby Jean, Rosalita or Jungleland but didn't particularly fancy my chances. To get all three blew my mind. Honestly one of the best shows I've ever been to.

Both festival setlists, especially Hyde Park were spectacular IMHO. I know they weren't real die-hard friendly, but these weren't die-hard shows.

I was at the Bruce gig at Hyde Park last night, and I thought he was brilliant. Seeing as I'm tired I'll write some notes rather than a review;
1. No I'm Goin' Down, but he definitely played Jungleland! He said to one of his roadies, "Gimme that sign", and the roadie went and got the wrong one! So then he got the right one and the band launched into their greatest song. 2. The crowd were absolutely fucking shite. Barely any singing along or dancing. For the first two songs I might have been standing next to a bunch of statues. 3. He played some "Irish Pixie music". No idea what it was, but I went to see Bruce to hear his great tunes, not some ridiculous family fun music. 4. Born To Run got a predictably massive singalong. Lovin' it. 5. No proper guest appearance like McCartney joining Neil the night before, just the bloke from The Gaslight Anthem. 6. Good setlist, I thought. But then, I'm not a diehard. I'll think of more notes later :D |

And you got Youngstown! So you have no right to complain about any aspect of the show. Even if Bruce shouted out "You're all a bunch of mother****ers" you let him get away with it because he played Youngstown. |

It's not such a leap of faith to imagine Jon at a Bruce Springsteen show now is it? |
Dammit, if Jon and/or Richie were there and didn't perform, and I didn't even see them, I will be sad! :(
I think I may have been a bit harsh with my appraisal last night, I did feel *the magic* at times, but sometimes I got a little bit bored as well. Now I fully except the main responsibility for that, being as before about five days ago I wasn't at all familiar with more than about 10 Springsteen songs and the new album, and that a three hour concert if I had known all the songs played would have been immense, but still .... it's all down to personal experience, y'know? And on that note, I realise that complaining about a Springsteen setlist is a tad unfair when he mixes it up so much and plays so many fan requests, but still, there were a few songs I expected and was looking forward to that weren't played ... I wasn't stupid enough to expect Born In The USA, but looking back over the setlists from this tour, I figured My Lucky Day, Ghost of Tom Joad, and possibly The River would be there, but ah well. Some other notes: * Opening with London Calling was cool * The rest of the first few songs washed over me, I'm not too familiar with Badlands, just enough to have been able to work out what it was, and I didn't know the next two. Plus, it seemed like Bruce's voice was a bit too low in the mix at times, something which always annoys me in live performances. *Outlaw Pete was where it all came together for me, I thoroughly enjoyed their performance of it. *I can't remember what song it was, but when Bruce walked down the steps to run around and get close to the front rows, then came back up and was saying "Someone get me a ****ing elevator, I'm ****ing 60!" ... that was a fun moment :D *I'd never heard Out On The Street before, but to me it sounds like Bon Jovi drew some inspiration for Who Says You Can't Go Home from here ... *Although I hadn't heard Youngstown before I enjoyed it, same for Johnny 99 before it *When Bruce went back to the front row and just took everyone's signs, then played 3 sign requests in a row, that was awesome! I hadn't heard Bobby Jean, but Trapped was one of the songs that stood out to me with all my Boss-education of the last few days, so that was great, as was No Surrender. *I guess Racing In The Street was the slow/somber song played before Radio Nowhere? Never heard that before, but it was a really powerful performance. *Decent, although not amazing performance of Radio Nowhere. It almost seemed to me like Bruce was having a bit of trouble getting back in the party mood after Racing In The Street. *The rest of the main set was decent, three more songs I knew, good performances of all of them, from Radio Nowhere onwards finally gave me a chance to sing along! :) *Jungleland was epic, 'nuff said! *The final one-two of Glory Days and Dancing In The Dark was a good ending *I really liked the dynamics with in the band, how they'd all be playing different instruments for different songs, how they all took turns at the mic, and how there was so much going on to watch. *All in all, I did really enjoy quite a lot of it, just there were a fair few times when my attention wavered a bit ... which as I have said, is mostly my fault |
Some more notes;
7. Nils played some huge fuck off guitar solo at the end of one of the songs. It was brilliant, even Bruce was digging it. Too bad I can't remember what song it was :( 8. Out On The Street shits of Who Says in every way. It's obvious Jon got the inspiration from it, but his ripoffs never seem to go to plan. It was great. 9. Outlaw Pete was fucking brilliant, never even liked that song before, but now I certainly do. Actually got a much bigger singalong than London's Calling and Badlands. 10. Nobody took Courtney Cox's place in Dancing In The Dark :( , which was a top ending, by the way. 11. It was good that he played a shitload of requests. I didn't know some of the songs, but they were all good. 12. I liked Radio Nowhere alot better live, and I don't generally like that song much. |

I'm glad to see most of you guys enjoyed it. My husband describes Bruce's shows as the closest thing he will ever have to a religious experience. |

EDIT -- Kathleen beat me to it! LOL |

I'm hoping to get Youngstown instead of Tom Joad, as Youngstown is not just one of my favourite Springsteen songs but perhaps one of my favourite all time songs, in both original and electric form :) Whereas I don't like electric Tom Joad...so if I do get that let's hope it's an acoustic version :p Hey, I can dream... |

there'll be a riot if he does that at hampden. all i can say is what a gig that was, with the exception of london crowds always being full of wankers, the gig was faultless.. I'm not sure if I'd say it was my best ever gig but the fact that i regard it up there with when i saw ray davies says a lot about how good it was. |

the fact of the matter is, we have enough arseholes roaming around here looking for trouble at gigs without giving the knuckledragging football wankers an excuse to start fighting. apart from that, the song was absolute shite :D |
I love Rod Stewart, would kill to see him live.
BUT ANYWAY... Kathleen or Terri - how old is Nils? And how long has he been part of the E Street for? He only looks about 30! He also looks devilishly awesome, a mix of Richie and Tico. I think that's my only question for now :) |

And on Wiki I just found out he's Italian - this naturally explains why I've become attracted to him (in a straight way) - I just looooooooooooooove Italians :D |
well i just got back from glastonbury and its safe to say that bruce was the best act i saw! (tom jones was a close though :p)
standout songs: the river: what a performance! it was unbelievable promised land: that was amazing hard times: i never knew how good that song was sunny day: its cheesy but was a great laugh outlaw pete: brilliant i noticed bruce kept going behind the drumkit to wash his face with a sponge and at the end of the gig a roadie through the sponge into the crowd and i caught it! |

And that just adds another reason to the long list of why I dislike you Joe :p |
