just thought id write another post how about how amazing last night was:P, even if we didnt get the jon/bruce duet. It was such a magical moment when bruce asked the roadie for the sign after hard times(i think), then said "ok this ones for you london" and revealed the jungleland sign. Watching him standing holding his guitar up was amazing, gave me the except same feeling as the dry county intro at twickenham last year, it was so amazing, there were 5 or 6 twats a few rows behind me chatting through clarences solo who were duly told to shut up by people around them:D. I also loved the "get me a ****ing elevator moment", and the interaction between Stevie and bruce at the end of glory days was fantastic.

so fantastic in fact that im currently researching glasgow tickets/cheapest way to get there:D

Ah you know I don't really dislike you :D

Just incredibly envious of the fact you've seen Aerosmith, Eric Clapton and got Bruce Springsteen's sponge.

And man, imagine if I put "Get Springsteen's Sponge" in my sig as one of the signatures! People would think that's a crazy idea - but it's possible by the sounds of it!

Yeah yeah, don't rub it in!

Also, add The Wrestler to the list of songs I thought they may have played. I know it's the title track, but there's a lot more songs from the new album I'd have rather they played than Working On A Dream

watchtower was about the only thing i could stomach from dave mathews.

having them and james morrison sandwhiched in between 2 balls to the wall rock bands like the gaslight anthem and springsteen was just daft.

would probably explain the large portion of yuppie wankers who have no real right being at an outdoor concert being there.

Seconded

I saw the first couple of James Morrison songs, then wandered off to the Bandstand Stage ... happily, I discovered a lovely young female folk singer named Lisa Mitchell and her band playing on that stage, and their music captivated me, so much so that I may buy their debut album when it's released in July. So, wandering around is good!

I like DMB but I truly dislike their audience. I took my daughter to a concert of theirs in 2003 - she was 13. It was an outdoor concert in Connecticut. The guys were hitting on her all over the place and offering her beer. When she turned them down - they started hitting on me. My son wound up slugging one of them who slobbered all over me and tried to kiss me. The dude was so drunk he could barely stand up.

A few years later we saw them at Madison Square Garden - once again the audience was the drunkest I have ever seen - and nobody paid the slightest attention to the music. I haven't been to a live show since though I do enjoy their bootlegs in the car for driving.

Keep in mind that I have been to Led Zeppelin concerts where people were certainly in an altered state - big time LOL. I have mentioned seeing god at a certain awesome Zeppelin show. No one ever acted as obnoxiously as the Dave Matthew fans.

Jim Bon Jovi 06-30-2009 04:06 AM

Oh no Kathleen it was a totally different crowd.

yours sounds like frat boys, down there it was total dyed in the wool yuppie scum.

My brother was at the festival last year to see aerosmith and had warned me that it was nothing like going to a festival or even a gig up here.

Some cunt who decided to lay a blanket down and have a picnic in the middle of the crowd moaned at me when I had to step on it when I was going to the bar.

One guy went to grass my mates old man up for rolling a J. We almost came to blows over that.

A woman was moaning about the crowd being around her young daughter who had decided she was going to go lie down on their blanket for a sleep halfway through the boss' set.

Someone else complained about me and a friend talking whilst James Morrison was on. If you're going to the trouble of zoning out 100 or so dB of music to be offended by 2 guys having a private conversation 10 feet away then you're out there just looking to be offended.

So many blankets out IN the crowd that you couldn't move without standing on one of the stupid cunts "patch"

It was just a loathe atmosphere and as i pertained to earlier, these kind of people just don't get what an outdoor gig is all about and thus shouldn't be there ruining it for everyone else who wants to have some fun.

I will admit I've been to concerts where i've done more than my fair share to cause aggrivation whether it's through being drunk or generally just being a pain in the arse but there were a sizeable amount of people at this gig who, I really dunno what they were expecting, but to come to a gig like that and basically act like crypto fascists is just a joke.

Kathleen 06-30-2009 01:25 PM

OK - frat boys - that makes sense.

Unfortunately there were a lot of the people you mention at Bon Jovi's Central Park concert too, though I never heard them called yuppie scum or fascists LOL. They were fiercely territorial as in don't get too close - don't step on my blanket. They were a major pain in the ass.

Yeah i guess that was a way to describe it I mean laying a blanket down on the grass at the back is one thing, laying it down (or letting your daughter sleep) in the middle of a 40,000 strong crowd is making a pretty bold statement.

They just seemed very confrontational towards people who know what festivals are all about and were thusly having fun.

Sounds like day concert trippers they do my head in. When we went to Live 8 there were people there who took in blankets, rugs, mini fridges, chairs etc. I was half expecting them to come out with a disposible BBQ! If ur at an outdoor standing gig you should expect to move about a bit, otherwise Sod off to the stands!

As I posted in the other thread they have done this together before. It was a real treat to be there too. They did this together at Continental Arena here in NJ at the last show of a 15 night stand - 1999-08-12.

Video exists :)

rights guys! Bruce Springsteens sponge ...
you will all have to take my word for it but i do have photographic evidence :p
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4715240_n.jpg
in the far right corner you can see a bowl of water with a sponge in
http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2421665_n.jpg
a zoomed in image
http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2598064_n.jpg
the sponge

here is the story ...
i saw bruce at glasto and at the end of the gig i went to stage and shouted to the roadies for a setlist but one replied 'there all gone mate' so i was a bit gutted but hung around anyway and then about 2 minutes later the roadie through the sponge at me a i hit me square on in the head! earlier on in the gig i noticed bruce using a sponge to wash his head and then when i got back i checked the footage i recorded and low and behold was right!

Kathleen 06-30-2009 10:32 PM

I assume you kept it :D The sponge is a feature of Bruce's shows. After he soaks himself with it - he brings it out to the edge of the stage and soaks anyone who is close with it. He calls it a Jersey baptism LOL.

This is actually a step up for him - he used to fill a bottle of water (or a roadie did) and he simply dumped it all over his head in order to cool off.

KeepTheFaith2211 06-30-2009 10:34 PM

I got 'Born In The U.S.A' and 'Born To Run' today, my first two Springsteen albums apart from the Greatest Hits. I'm not the biggest fan of course, but these two albums are excellent and I will be buying a few mor every soon, so I am happy. :)

I'm officially torn on which version of No Surrender I like better, the full band version or the acoustic version, circa the BITUSA tour.

hometownboy 07-01-2009 08:34 PM

are there any decent recordings of Hard Times out there?
its bloody fantastic!

same here, i love that song, and the acoustic version is filled with emotion yet the full band version is so great for singing along with, its tough to choose.

Just about any version of the first leg of the tour in North America has decent versions. The best sounding version is undoubtedly the Los Angeles matrix mix 4. If you can deal with bit torrent it's on dime and probably on Jungleland too. Bruce's voice was a little rough in LA but the sound on that recording is worth an official release it's so good.

This one is on dime:

Here it is on Jungleland if you can't get into dime:

It would have been Hyde Park not Glastonbury and they were going to sing Hungry Heart. Here is an article about it.

I absolutely love Hard Times. I can't get through a recording without listening to that song at least twice. I wanted to smack people when they were talking during it at my shows!

Grab all the ones you can of this tour - it's really fun and interesting to see how the setlists and the songs themselves change as the tour goes on :)

After this tour I'm gonna start looking at older bootlegs - only ones from previous tours I have is an acoustic gig from the Ghost Of Tom Joad tour (it's frickin' amazing) and The Hitter In Syracuse from the Devils & Dust tour.

Kathleen, I just downloaded that one a few days ago. Haven't yet listened to the whole thing but what little I have heard is brilliant. Whoever recorded it needs to go to every Bruce show and record them :)

With all the lurking I've been doing on the Bruceboards lately, I'm starting to see that Bobby Jean isn't all that popular amongst some Bruce fans, which really boggles my mind.
