Mothers always love me. It's always those darn dad's I have to work at and work at and work at. And to whoever is dissing upon Bruce's Hyde Park show. PFFFFFFT. The best? Definatly not, but if you even saw a portion of the Glastonbury gig you'd understand why he wasn't as great at Hyde Park. He gave it his all and then some at Glastonbury - his biggest ever crowd since...a very long time ago. Then he had to do another 2 1/2+ set the following day! He did damn brilliant considering. That's enough Bruce defending for me today. OBBO (Oli's Bruce Brigade Out) |
I was listening to born to run in the car earlier and I couldn't help that Bruce's goes majorly flat a lot of the time on 10th avenue freezeout.
I'd never noticed it through my laptop on crappy mp3 rates. Kinda wish I hadn't now because I love how the cut sounds like a staxx record but the vocal on it will annoy me every time I hear it now for a long time :( |

I dunno why but for some reason better days is totally blowing my mind just now.
I just love how almost evangelic it sounds when it all comes together. This is a great version AND I think solos like this go a long way to backing up my point about a tasteless and easy solo is better than mindless wanking showing off technical ability in the thread about richie's solos on the main board. |
fookin hell this is great
I'm ripping that off if I play the gig I have lined up on Thursday :) |
I've just realised how awesome nebraska is.
I liked it but I'd never really listened to it, I'd either have it on in the car and not really be paying attention or have it on in the background while I was doing work or something but I sat and listened to it tonight and it's absolutely brilliant. Which leads me to my next question: I've decided that my pay day treat for the supply work I've done this week will be another bruce album and I need some suggestions. I've got: born to run (love) born in the USA (love about 80% of, like the rest) live in NY (would kick my granny off a bus for) greatest hits (the mid 90s??!?!?! one... sort of born to run / born in the USA type cover, i dunno but regardless, I don't need another GH) nebraska (see above) tom joad (not really been able to get into it) the rising (love) magic (love +1) working on a dream (have a friend-like affection for) I think that's it. Anyways I've tried to give an idea of what type of albums of his I dig. Just now I'm really digging his mid tempo stuff like better days and human touch... maybe something from around that era? But I do love the pomp and RnBness (c) JBJ 2009 of his earlier stuff around born to run. go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 |
Darkness on the Edge of Town Jim - it's fooking brilliant (to quote you LOL)

cool. amazon have been a pain in the vag over a new card for the past year so I doubt I'll get it from there but I'll check ebay.
I didn't realise big country had covered i'm on fire. :) |
OK so I just bought the river from ebay. there doesnt seem to be any buy it now darkness albums and I'm not paying over a fiver for something 2nd that's probably been played for 20 years unless it's a guitar.
I have stumbled upon the springsteen art search results and I'm just glad I'm moving or else myself, my beer and the good people at mastercard would be up to our necks in springsteen canvases just now. I love this even though it doesn't particularly look like the boss and isn't his esquire: http://i13.ebayimg.com/03/i/000/e6/8c/9504_1.JPG |
I agree wholeheartedly with Kathleen's suggestions. Darkness is my favorite album, and Racing in the Street brings me to a halt every time I hear it. The River is just loaded with great songs.
Since you like the Live In NY set so much, you might also keep an eye out for the Live 1975-1985 set. It's a 3 CD box set, and I got my copy for a song via eBay. The version of The River on that set and the story Bruce tells before it are enough to make you cry. |
I can get that live set on spotify and most people on ebay either want a fortune for it or would probably be pretty close to the bone with shipping before i move.
I miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight just buy a bruce painting before i go even though I wouldn't get the use out of it. painting>canvas print |
LOL I see you have as much self-control as I have when you get on eBay! When the clock is counting down, I decide I NEED all sorts of things.

You should also get his MTV live "plugged" album he did with the solo band. "I Wish I Were Blind" is so beautiful. Overall it's just a great performance. The performance of Lucky Town is infinitely better then the album version.
Devils and Dust is fantatstic too. |

I'd also recommend Tunnel Of Love- a lot of Bruce fans that I've spoken to have really slagged off this album, but if you're into the early 90's stuff, this would be a pretty good one to get. It takes a wee while to get into but once you do it's pretty damn awesome. |
I ****ing HATE HMV with a passion. :(
It pains me to pass money over their counters. |
As you can see by the other suggestions Jim - you should really buy all the albums. Budget anyone ?..........
|
Bruce fans are so lame.
They're all hating on hearing Born To Run at every show  ****ing hell. Spoilt little wingeing brats. Someone dissed hearing Badlands too! AND LONESOME DAY! But still...Born To Run? I think they need to stop attending Bruce gigs. |
I'm OK with HMV, they're willing to employ me so I'm happy :p

They had a sale coming up so all they had us do was sit (on the floor) downstairs in the stock room removing stickers from videos boxes so new ones could be put on. I worked out that there was 48,000 stickers to be peeled off. On the 2nd morning I asked if we'd be doing anything else that week and the guy actually had the cheek to say: "No. I know it's shit but I had to do it when i started here too" I reminded him that I wasn't getting paid for it, told him to shove the placement up his proverbial and went home. I've been back in that store once or twice in the 10 years since then. |

Tunnel of Love - ugh. Definitely glad I got that one used. EDIT - Jim, even if you hate HMV, you'll be glad you spent the money on that 1975-85 Live set. That price is a bargain, and the set is absolutely stellar. |
just bought the live cd set from the hmv website.
at least i didn't need to enter the shop. quick question. has land of hope and dreams ever been done in the studio or is it just a live track? |

even on the essential it is the live version I believe.
I think it's one of the best bruce songs, especially with the People Get Ready part at the end, like on the barcelona dvd. I salute you, TS |
yeah I meant have they cut it in the studio.
Still a great tune. |

wow, the river has always been one of my favourite Bruce songs but the version on Live in New York City has just blew my mind. What a fantastic version :)
|
Yes. The DVD is running here on loud volume on regular basis ;)
I like the Jungleland version of that show as well. I salute you, TS |
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH Bruce overload :)
The river arrived on Saturday and I've only had a chance to listen to cd 1 but really liked it. The live comp came today and is having the life and soul compressed and digitalised out of it by itunes as we speak. And yesterday I got an e-mail from an ebay seller asked me to pay for the darkness on the edge of town cd id bought from him. I musta done that when i was drunk the other night cause I don't remember it :D |

No such thing as Bruce overload - Bruce is just always there :) He's actually been around most of my life - it will be a sad day when he isn't - but then there are all those boots I never have time to listen to all the way through LOL.

I'm going to give the live album a proper listen to earlier on to cheer me up :) |
Man, Bruce fans are complaining that other Bruce fans wear Bruce shirts at Bruce gigs
****ing hell. God bless this thread for Bruce discussion. |

I haven't been over there in a few days. They were really pissy about the show in Saratoga, and I wasn't in the mood to read it. Speaking of Bruce, have I mentioned that it's only 16 days to my next "fix"? |

I have worn my Bounce sweatshirt to Bruce shows. It's all black with big letter across the front that says JERSEY. There is a very small Bounce logo on one of the sleeves - it's hardly noticeable. I figured that the Jersey was pretty appropriate for a Bruce show. It's this sweatshirt:
