The River is probably the album I listen to least, so a DVD of that double-disc ****er would bore me to death :( I dunno why - the first disc has some great songs, and the second disc has one of my favourites (Point Blank) on it, but I dunno, there's just something about that entire album I dislike. I think it might be the cover art. |
Yeah, i went to the wild and the innocent show, so would love to see that released...however i love those river rockers so much :D...nothing like ramrod/cadillac ranch/crush on you/you can look to put a massive smile on my face...so i dunnno....should be an MSG show thought tbh.

Yes, Brucie is now an Adjective..... |
and The River is one of my alltime favourite album! maybe 'cause it was the first
album I heard with Bruce but I love all the songs on the album so I do really hope they will release a The River Box down the live too. :-) However, I seems like they're going for a European show to release from the WOAD tour maybe because they do not want a "whole album" show. |
So guys, remember how I was saying I was a guy from New Jersey who couldn't dig Springsteen?
Well, I'm having a pretty awful night and an awful week. Per custom during these wonderful occasions, I surf youtube looking for music to fit the mood and point me in a better direction. So I notice one of my friends on facebook has Spirit of the Night favorited. I checked it out. I've heard the song before, but I never actually SAT down and listened to it... I loved it. Playing it over and over. So what else should this Brooce noob try again? |

Another non-believer finally falling LOL. It might depend on WHY you are having a terrible week (flunking out of school versus female trouble) LOL.
If speaking to your misery might help try the album Darkness on the Edge of Town. It's the sort of album that could only have been written by someone who had had a bad few years. If you want some happy music however to try to lift you up - go for Born to Run (the album). She's the One or Night or even Thunder Road (It's a town full of losers and we're pulling out of here to win). SO much good music out there for people in pain. Bruce seems to know how to speak to that without wallowing in misery. Quote:

Bruce is great.
In combining rock'n'roll music with great stories and deep lyrics he and the E-Street-Band are unique. I think a very good song for standing up again and help you out of a bad mood is "Countin' on a mircale" of the Rising record. But as said Bruce has countless songs for nearly every situation you are in. At the moment I'm really digging the song "Lucky town". |

I heard this cover of Dancing In The Dark last night. I quite like it.

GOD DAMMIT BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everynow and then I stop in my tracks and I think "**** me, this guy is so damn brilliant". It hits me like a ton of bricks, like I'm hearing his music for the first time. I love you, Bruce. So much that I feel I know you on a first-name basis (and whenever I mention just your first name around friends and family, they know who I mean ) |

but yeah to summarize, bruce is god. |

It was crap though, the narrator couldn't pronounce Patti Scialfa or Danny Federici correctly. But all those bio things are crap, yet somehow I always watch them when there's a person of interest on. Quote:

yes yes, i know you were the one who told me to look into haha, i just forgot how i fell in love with it a few months ago. Yea that guy miss pronouncing Patti's name when all the other interviews were saying it right...and no bruce music. but ah well it served a purpose.
|
And there was no actual interview with Bruce :(
I did learn something though - Bruce was a loner in school?! I always assumed he was really popular, not because I think he's real cool but because he just came across as someone who everyone liked. At least, he always gave that impression. Oh well, he's certainly popular now. |

I listened to born to run earlier on and it's given me major GAS for an esquire. I might build one when I get home :)

Ricky Gervais has said his new film is inspired by Thunder Road. As a fan this makes me like him even more

Well it's been unfamiliarly sunny in lil' ol' England these past two weeks. I've been taking the time to go out and meet friends, do things, etc etc.
But yesterday, I felt like being a lone ranger. Going out on my own. I remembered a while ago in a shop I saw an awesome canvas - it was a cadillac driving down route 66 and it was beautiful. I instantly thought of Thunder Road and knew I'd be back to buy it. So yesterday I got on the bus went into the city on that gorgeous day to get it. As soon as I went in Dancing In The Dark was playing on the store's radio - did The Boss know I was coming? Anyhow, they didn't have the canvas I was after :( So I bought a small one of a cadillac they had anyway which I shall put up on my wall later. But anyway - I was in a spend lots of money mood and headed into a CD store and bought a couple CD's. One of which was The Rising, now I don't need to feel guilty about illegally downloading it anymore (the other CD I got was This Is The Life by the ever-so-talented Amy Macdonald who funnily enough cites Bruce as an inspiration and covers either Dancing In The Dark or Born To Run at each gig she does). So I opened up The Rising CD case and man, I love the art inside that little booklet! I also love the artwork in the Working On A Dream bookley thingy, such beautiful photos. Anyway...that's all I wanted to say :p It was a long time comin' but I got to my point in the end. The artwork for Bruce's latter albums really rock. |
So. I understand you are a Springsteen fan but didn't have an original copy of 'The Rising' ?
I got the tour edition of that album and in my opinion it's one of his best. I only like 2 or 3 songs on WOAD. Not my album. Magic is the last album I like from Springsteen. I salute you, TS |

Greatest Hits - loved 5 songs. Disliked the rest. Magic - LOVED. Tunnel Of Love - hated We Shall Overcome - hated Devils & Dust - hated Working On A Dream - hated I bought the Greatest Hits and Magic in 2007, but as you can see I just didn't like much Bruce. It wasn't until 2009 when for whatever strange reason - and I truly believe it was a plan of God's - I downloaded the entire discography of Bruce Springsteen. I listened to an album one night, loved it, then another album the next night until eventually I started loving more tracks than I hated. Hell, I even love the majority of Working On A Dream (though there are still a couple of tracks that make me wonder what Bruce was on). And well the rest, as they say, is history. I think Bruce must have come at the right point in my life. Like the planets alligned or something. So yeah, now I'm working on buying all those Bruce albums I downloaded which is a hell of a lot. It's fun though, knowing I'm buying an album which has already provided me with so much pleasure, joy and will help me triumphant the future in many years to come. |
Every now and then I just buy a new CD of Bruce, but now I am at the point where I almost got all of them.
WOAD-songs just don't work for me. I think Magic is one of his best albums, as well for The Rising, Born in the USA, The River and Tunnel of Love. I also like Devils and Dust very much. That's one of the few albums that you have to listen as a whole. The Darkness Box will come this year. I am wondering what live-concert they will be including. I salute you, TS |

I do own the Born to Run anniversary edition too and althoug the show included with that one (Hammersmith Odeon 76) is an awesome show I never look/listen to the dvd nor audio. I cannot exactly say why.
As far as I know it's been confirmed that this year Darkness will be released as well as a WOAD-DVD (rumours are the dvd will contain the concert of Hyde Park) and possibly at the end of 2010, start of 2011 a solo album of Bruce will emerge. Atleast it's worth waiting for, probably. I salute you, TS |
I cannot wait until that Darkness boxset comes. A remastered Candy's Room and Prove It All Night are things that the world needs!
However, this solo acoustic CD coming out at the end of the year/early 2011 sounds interesting Wouter, where did you hear about this? I hope it's at the end of this year, that way the tour won't start until next year. As desperate as I am to see Bruce again, I just don't have the money this year. And I was planning on saving up to go to either Paris/New Jersey/Italy next year for a holiday (well, not really a holiday, I just want to travel). I guess now it'll have to be Jersey - and I can catch The Boss there :o I need to get a job. |
So much people like/love Prove it all Night and I think it's just such a dragging and boring song so I still can't see what's so good about it.
I cannot find the link anymore to where was stated that his solo album might be released at the end of 2010/start of 2011. I read about it all (Darknexx-Box, WOAD-DVD and solo-album) in the same article on the internet that contained a small interview with Bruce's producer. It could make sense though. Clarence needs to get surgery for his back and needs to revalidate as well so he won't be performing any day soon. The only source I can find now is the Dutch Wikipedia which isn't exactly an official source either. The rumours are there. Lets hope they are true. I salute you, TS |
London Calling DVD due June 22
Today's press release: COLUMBIA RECORDS TO RELEASE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND'S 'LONDON CALLING: LIVE IN HYDE PARK' CONCERT FILM ON JUNE 22 RELEASE MARKS FIRST SPRINGSTEEN OUTDOOR CONCERT FILM AND FIRST FROM A FESTIVAL SETTING On June 22, Columbia Records will release Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's London Calling: Live In Hyde Park concert film on one Blu-Ray disc and as a two DVD set. Captured in London at the Hard Rock Calling Festival on June 28, 2009 in HD, the 163-minute film documents 26 tracks of live Springsteen that begin in daylight and progress through a gorgeous sunset into night. London Calling: Live In Hyde Parkconveys both the experience of being on-stage and the vast crowd experience of the festival environment. Viewers are able to see Springsteen spontaneously directing the E Street Band and shaping the show as it evolves. The set list spans from Born to Run era to Working on a Dream and includes rare covers such as The Clash's "London Calling," Jimmy Cliff's "Trapped," The Young Rascals' "Good Lovin'," and Eddie Floyd's "Raise Your Hand." Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem joins the band as a guest vocalist on Springsteen's own "No Surrender." The concert earned rave reviews. The London Times called it "epic" and "a revved-up three-hour power drive through Springsteen's America." The Independent concurred, "He awed the 50,000-strong crowd... Drenched in sweat by the second number, tossing his guitars to the roadies with the vigour of a frontman a third of his age and jogging down a walkway to meet his fans and take their requests, Springsteen's intensity was staggering from first powerful vocal to final thrashed-out chord." GRAMMY and Emmy Award-winning producer and editor Thom Zimny and director Chris Hilson, both members of Springsteen's video team dating back over a decade, oversaw the film. Audio was mixed by Bob Clearmountain. Bonus material includes stunning footage of "The River" from Glastonbury, June 27; and the full music video for "Wrecking Ball," filmed at New Jersey's Giants Stadium. **** yeah, I was at this gig. Will definitely buy.
|
Awesome there releasing one of the gigs i was at....would prfer the Wild and innocent one, but bruce was in a great mood at this show, so cant ****ing wait. Also that version of the river from glastonbury is possibly the best i've heard :) hmmm just noticed they've cut rosie :( maybe its just been missed off that list...
|
I will buy this one of course - but there has been much discussion on various Bruce boards about releasing an outdoor show where Bruce was not at his finest. He was exhausted at Hyde Park and his voice was shot. Glastonbury was the day before and it showed.
|
@Thunderstucker: You was one minute quicker than me. ;)
I've also noticed that Roise is left out. On backstreets.com they wrote this: Quote:

God dammit, I was hoping for one of the last Jersey shows. The Wild & Innocent in particular.
I am looking forward to a new Springsteen release, do not get me wrong, I'm excited. It's just, as Kathleen said, Bruce wasn't at his best (but that's still always WAY above average) and we've already seen a portion of the show on TV anyway. But the setlist is damn ****ing fine. Apart from dropping Rosalita!! Who the **** made that decision and why? Did Rosalita die? |
