To think Springsteen is going to steal of KISS of all people is bizarre.
To think Tommorow Never Knows is an Amy Macdonald song is also bizarre. It's quite obviously a Dylan track in a Bruce Springsteen disguise. |

Should go in the cover thread, but nobody reads that.
Bob Dylan covering Dancing In The Dark: Couldn't believe it when I found this. Rubbish though. |

Ah, this one is much better. Dylan's featured in that they're playing one of his songs, but it's a collaboration with another one of the greats: Neil Young.
It's messy, partly due to the rubbish mix, but Neil and Bruce seem to be having a great time, and the Big Man does a solo as well. Rockin' In The Free World A lovely version of Helpless from a different (and earlier) gig An acoustic version of Down By The River with Bruce doing some cool licks and some pretty shit vocals So basically, whenever Neil and Bruce get together they play some cool stuff and seemingly have a great time :D Quote:

I love that version of helpless! Helpless is one of the best songs ever recorded. Thanks for the youtube links! And today I went to the record store and bought: Magic, Nebraska, Tunnel of love, The rising and Darkness on the edge of town. |

That's not bizarre. That's an opinion I do not share alone. I salute you, TS |
Right guys, I need your help.
So today I was bored, it was my day off, and there was no way in hell I was gonna do any work. So I got on a train and headed out into the city. Whilst I was there I bought a book (The Grapes Of Wrath :)) and a couple Bruce things. The Storyteller DVD. And my FAVOURITE BRUCE ALBUM - THE WILD, THE INNOCENT & THE E STREET SHUFFLE. Now I hate how nowadays Bruce releases his albums in those stupid cardboard things. So imagine my horrow when I found out that there was no hardcase for this album, just a cardboard one. And on top of that, it had crazy Japanese writing on it. And it said it had a side one and a side two  And this is what really pisses me off - it's like an inch taller than every other CD I own. That's gonna irritate me forever. I've not even opened it yet. So what exactly is it? I already know I'm gonna have to buy it again in a hardcase as soon as I see one :( It looks like this, but obviously different cover. But you can see the Jap text. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Imag...8697287542.JPG |

I guess its one of those Japanese vinyl replicas that pops up everywhere. The storyteller dvd is brilliant, I love it to death. |
I never bought the Storytellers dvd. I always thought it was a lame documentary for some reason.
I salute you, TS |
Watching the Blood Brothers doc on DVD for the first time.

I love the Storyteller DVD as well, the unedited version is coolest though IMO. |
Well I opened up my Japanese thingy last night, the CD was in a plastic sleeve thing and the linear notes were on some fold-out piece of paper like you would in a vinyl :(
I WANTED A BOOKLET WITH PICTURES DAMMIT LIKE IN CDs!!! And now, because I've got this unusual CD in my collection I feel like I've gotta buy the rest of those Jap ones <_< I'm gonna end up with two of every Bruce album. So it's like a Japanese import yeah? Or just a Jap vinyl replica? Because the actual CD doesn't look like a vinyl replica, looks like every other CD. Also I bought Lucky Town (hard case!!) today. Slowly getting them all to own! |

I prefer digipacks, hardcover or not, over jewelcases. Then again, the digipacks/cardboxes Bruce uses are crushed already in the mail because they are sealed.
But when I do have the choice between digipack or jewelcase I definitely go for digipack and am willing to pay a bit more for that as well. I salute you, TS |
I also prefer digipacks over jc.

Bruce Springsteen VH1 Storytellers uncut Filmed April 4 2005, Two Rivers Theater, Red Bank, NJ This is the complete and uncut footage of Springsteen live at VH1 Storytellers. It's a three DVD set. NTSC. Pro-Shot From a post on r.m.a.s.: "The unedited Storytellers is 122 minutes long. The longest VH-1 broadcast of the show was in the neighborhood of 50 minutes. You get the whole songs, where VH-1 cut them down to a couple three minutes. You get all of Bruce's commentary, where VH-1 just gave you the Cliffs Notes versions. You get the extra takes of "Nebraska", "Jesus Was an Only Son", "The Rising", and "Thunder Road". You get Bruce's screw ups, false starts, bad notes, and his wandering into the crowd trying to borrow a kleenex." Disc One runs 52:51 and includes: 1. Devils & Dust and Bruce's discussion of the lyrics. 2. Blinded By The Light: Great story by Bruce about this song, how he wrote it, how Clarence was missing in action and that's why he appears on only two songs on the album. 3. Brilliant Disguise (with Patti). 4. Nebraksa. This was not shown on the VH1 show. Bruce plays this twice and he explains the songs in depth. Just great to watch. Disc Two (52:51) 1. Jesus Was An Only Son (on piano, he plays it twice and discusses the song). 2. Waiting on A Sunny Day (a lot of fun, does his Smokey Robinson imitation). 3. The Rising (does it twice). 4. First play of Thunder Road. Disc Three (17:30) 1. Plays Thunder Road for the second time. talks about living near the Inkwell (restaurant) in Long Branch, NJ and writing the song. |
Today I bought the "blood brothers" DVD. It was a lot of fun to watch, to see Bruce just goofing around and the recording bit was interesting. My only complaint is the lack of music in the film, a little bit more music and I would have been completely satisfied.

..and that is why your wild and innocent is a bit boring...because the original vinyl didn't have any inner sleeve with pics or lyrics och liner notes, nada so be happy that at least you got the lyrics with this one! |
My Live 75-85 Box has only 3cd's.
Didn't even know there was a 5cd version as well. I salute you, TS |

But these Jap vinyl replicas are annoying. Like an inch taller than every other CD - THIS IS REALLY IRRITATING OF FOR SOMEONE AS ANAL AS MYSELF! The only way to sort it out is to buy all the Jap vinyl replicas too :( |
Oh I bought and watched the MTV Plugged show yesterday. I did have a downloaded copy of it but never got round to watching it.
First of all - and I've always wondered this - why is the cover so crappy? Looks like someone in my Film Studies class did it. Second of all - AWESOME SHOW!! I have a copy of the CD version so I knew what most of it was like - but man - to finally have WATCHED Bruce play that brilliant version of Lucky Town was great. And The Big Muddy/57 Channels medley was chine-spilling. It was like Bruce was channeling Pink Floyd for a short while. The only performance that I thought was lame was Glory Days. I've seen a couple of performances where Bruce does it with his other band and I never enjoy it. Also - wtf is Bruce doing flirting with that woman at the end of Man's Job? Does he not remember the last time he interacted with a girl in the band whilst a married man? :o Stoopid Bruce. But yeah, asides from a some minor (and petty on my behalf) faults I [i]really[i/] enjoyed it :D Oh one more thing I forgot - Better Days sounds completely different on the DVD than it does on the CD. Anyone else get this? |
I don't think I know the cd-version but I sure like the dvd a lot as well !
Especially the live version of Living Proof about the birth of his son. I salute you, TS |

Anyway I finally got round to watching the Storytellers DVD today. Loved it :D Except for one minoooooor thing. I thought the performance of Thunder Road was dreadful (dreadful in Bruce terms, that is), he seemed bored singing it and he stumbled a couple of times on the piano - yet when he went through it line by line whilst explaining the song he seemed really into it and gave it more passion. If only he swapped the explanation performance with the showcase performance :( Probably the only time I think I've thought "Wow, that's underpar for you Bruce" on a particular song performance :( But apart from that, awesome show. Pretty funny and a nice little insight into how he writes these songs. And Patti looked gorgeous. I love that woman. |
