Where did my topic go?

Aloha !

Tell me, where did it go? The one about the names of Jon's children.

Why? Am I not allowed to make jokes about the names of his children? Their names are on wikipedia, it's not like it's information that's hard to get.

Well, yes, but as pictures of them are left out of this forum so are jokes about their names. His father is in the spotlight, not them.

Then why are we allowed to make jokes about names like Apple and the names of Michael Jackson's children? Jon is in the spotlight and when giving your children names like Jesse James he surely must realize that people are going to make jokes about it?

First of all, I'm not so sure a parent realises the child's name calls for jokes or I don't think he'd choose that name in the first place. And secondly, you are not making fun of Jon who picked the name - if he picked it - but of the child who had that name imposed on him/her and who has nothing to do with this board.

Band members' children are left out of this board, period. Even discussing Jon's hair or clothes is more on topic than debating his children's names.

Sadly, it doesn't work that way, or do you honestly believe that when Chris Martin named his daughter Apple he never once considered that the child might be bullied with such a name? Parents who give their child a name that odd don't think it thru and only think about themselves as in "I like it" in contrast whether the kid (and society) will like and/or accept it.

So if I would not have mentioned the names of the children but would've made a topic saying "What was Jon thinking when he named his children?" it'd be alright? Because it'd be about Jon, and not about the child's name?

It's still a double standard. I'm allowed to make jokes about the names of Michael Jackson's kids and no one will question it, yet I am not allowed to make jokes about the names of Jon's children. That's not the way this board used to work. If I remember correctly there was this big topic about Romeo Jon's name and how the poor child would never have a normal life. Nobody was deleting replies back then, so why do it now?

No, you know the phrasing isn't the actual problem. You would still be talking about someone else who is not Jon and is not famous 'by choice'.

But then again other 'celebrities' are not so careful to keep their children out of the spotlight as Jon is, are they? They pose with them for pictures, etc. Jon, however, has constantly stated that he's the famous one, not his children and he has hardly consented to them being in photographs, etc. So you may call it a double standard, but it's also a trend that starts with the parent in the first place.

I have to agree with Seb here. We already know the kids names, it seems a tad heavy handed to ban talking about them.

Anyways, there were some links recently to pictures of Stephanie and Jesse (or Girl Bongiovi and Oldest Boy Bongiovi if their names are that taboo ;)) with their parents, and these links weren't removed. They were even discussed!

Keeper 03-09-2009 08:42 PM

It wasn't a discussion, it was a poll on which name was the 'biggest punishment'. That's not exactly the same as linking to a few public pictures, is it?

kenobi_on_a_prayer 03-12-2009 09:58 AM

I'm hoping by the time I have kids (if I do), everyone will have increasingly weird names so Obi-Wan and Amidala won't get teased.;)

Well then the mods need to get on the same page in their little private forum becuase these pictures were also made public by Richie yet they were removed by Kev.

I appreciate your concern for my future children.;)

And I probably wouldn't, at least not in the foreseeable future, but I have heard of some people giving their kids names like Morpheus, so if the environment was right, "Obi-Wan" and "Amidala" might seem quite normal.

...I am being facetious you know.

But in that scenario, Qui-Gon would be the other boy.;)

Or else I could just go with Ben and Luke, haha. Chewbacca could be our dog.

Long time to think about it though. I'm not planning on procreating anytime soon. :p

LOL. Please do Ben and Luke. Only hardcore fans would think about it, and would think it was awesome. Other people wouldn't think about it. My friends hampster is named Chewbacca.....
