Well not a very big U2 fan, and realy only want to hear the older songs, just like most people who go to U2 concerts, but hey i have to grab every opertunity to see Seb and bro right? ;)

And Bono realy cant sing live anymore.... think he needs to see JBJ's vocal coach

Which is the Best U2 Live DVD to get?

Thunderstrucker 04-03-2009 06:46 PM

I'd say:

1. Vertigo The best in sound (LPCM Stereo and DD 5.1 and DTS included) and the best in video.
2. Slane Castle
3. Popmart

I salute you,
Thunderstrucker

I would say either Vertigo from Chicago, great sound and a great set or Zoo TV from Sydney-great set-the peak of their career.

Also Live from Paris wasn't that bad, it's just the sound quality was less better than the ones above, but a great set.

Crushgen24/88 04-04-2009 08:28 AM

My personal favorite is the Slane one, though I haven't seen them all.

mo_rizwan 04-04-2009 04:25 PM

Right, well I purchased Chicago yesterday.

Do any of yous suggest I get Boston and Slane Castle as well?

I'm only preparing for the Wembley show.

EDIT: Got Slane Castle today :)

Simon 04-08-2009 04:17 PM

I'm confused.

First, in this thread for the first time ever I see Seb really defending Bon Jovi, kind of.

Second, I'm surprised about the dislikement (is there such word?) against U2. I've never been their biggest fan, but had my phases and own almost everything by them, but I thought their releases in this decade where among their best. In fact, the albums that I listen to the most are "All That You Can't Leave Behind" and "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb". They just have great songs, while I really couldn't get into "No Line On The Horizon" yet.

From what I've heard on the Boston DVD (Elevation tour) Bono's voice was quite good and the concert amazing. When I saw that DVD I swore to myself to see them live on the next tour. Didn't get tickets then, and this time I don't bother as it's just too expensive, I study abroad and prefer travelling right now. But I'm sure they have more than 15 decent songs to put on a great show (at leas I would come up with more), from all I've seen they create a great atmosphere during their shows. For instance, the Milano concert that came with "18 Singles" special edition blew me away.

On a sidenote to Seb, "Beautiful Day" is a great song, many people I know really like this, and I would love to hear it live. Among with many other newer songs. I mean, take "Kite" or "In A Little While" alone, or "Miracle Drug"...

I agree: Ticket prices are insane, Bono's praching is annoying, there is a tendency to overrate them. Yes, they did some crap in the 90s, but anyway I find songs I like. Lately I listened to the remix of "Discoteque" from The Best Of 1990-2000 and for the first time I loved the song, cool riff.

I've seen it and loved it. Great atmosphere. "In A Little While" and "With Or Without You" are my highlights.

jade4jovi 04-10-2009 01:26 AM

Yes, you must get the Boston DVD! It's a beauty.

slippery89 04-11-2009 12:10 AM

The Boston DVD is pretty good, but Bono's voice doesn't knock in until about the middle of the show and you could really tell. Bono also mentions during the show that he struggled a few shows before and he was still struggling in the beggining of this show.

Supersonic 07-06-2009 10:12 PM

Aloha !

I've just heard a few parts of the first show and One from their show at Barcelona is really bad. Bono's vocals are terrible, and the entire band is completely clueless during the performance of that song, they keep mixing up the verses and the chorus, Edge wants to do a small guitar solo all the time and Bono forgets the lyrics to the second verse. He stops the song, their bass player does a little improvised riff somewhere and then Bono counts off again in the middle of a song so everyone can jump back in. And then they lose it again!

I've never, ever heard such a big band deliver such a train wreck.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Crushgen24/88 07-06-2009 10:22 PM

That sounds like an absolute mess. I will be immensely pissed if they're that bad after I paid scalper money to see them.

The bootleg of the first show is up on U2torrents.com, just grab it :). Bono sounds really terrible, but on the other hand. I am so happy they started playing the Unforgettable Fire again. Awesome song, it's in my top 5 song list ever.

Thunderstrucker 07-06-2009 10:36 PM

Hahahaha
OH
MY
GOD

How terrible can you play 'one' song (clever wordchoice ;))
Edge is at the bridge and Bono telling him to go back to the verse as in '1,2,3, Verse'
Professionalism is dripping from this performance. Both hands down !

Bono sings the song as if it a soundcheck, I pity the fans attending the concert.
Good news for me is that he probably knows the song he wrote by july 20th, when I will see them.

I salute you,
Thunderstrucker

Are you going alone then, HiaWoutah?

Yes, wearing cloths I washed and ironed myself. You should try it.

Why would you piss over your clothes? Ah thats right. I guess its pretty normal for someone living on his own in a while to bring the clothes back to his mother to wash them for him. My bad.

That must be why he never allows anyone to sleep in his bed then, it smells like piss all the time.

KeepTheFaith2211 07-07-2009 11:50 AM

Absolutely awful band. Hate them. Bono's preaching really grates on me and I'm one of those people who really wants the world to change for the better.

Oh, the music...don't like a single song by them, and you hear them everywhere you go. Can't get away from them...ever.

mo_rizwan 07-07-2009 02:14 PM

I have a ticket for the opening Wembley Stadium show if anyone's interested.

I'm not in the mood of going anymore.....

slippery89 07-08-2009 02:28 AM

What does everyone think of the 360 stage??

Looks pretty cool, however the seating tickets I have for Hampden are in the top tier, so not sure if the stage will actually obscure my view or not.

Was in the same seats to see Jovi in 2001 and it was a perfect view on a normal stage.

slippery89 07-09-2009 03:43 AM

HELP HELP!!!!!!!!

Now I will be seeing them in Chicago and being as there are no seats on the floor, which are where my seats are, I wanted to know how does it work for the floor people? Is it first come first serve kind of thing. Would I have to camp out to guarantee a spot in front or what? I have been to a couple other shows where I had floor seats and there were no seats and it was just wherever you find a spot.

Is it unusual to have standing tickets in the US or something?

I think it's less common here than it is in Europe. For example, Jovi's arena shows here all have reserved seating on the floor. The entire field at Giants will be GA for Bruce this year, and evidently that's a change from other years when there was a relatively small GA area at the front and chairs on the rest of the field.

For arena/stadium shows it is for bands like U2/Bruce/Jovi.

Supersonic 07-10-2009 10:52 PM

Aloha !

Mo rates U2 and their version of One they did in Barcelona:

Mo says:
im still thinking about U2
Mo says:
knowing Bono, he might make the show worse by talking about africa
Supersonic says:
haha
Supersonic sends: U2 - One (Barcelona)
Supersonic says:
Listen to that.
****ing funny that.
Mo says:
song?
Supersonic says:
Yes
Before One Bono went on about preaching etcetera
And then the band started One.
Listen to how they completely lose track on this song.
Mo says:
oh, he did that on one of the DVDs i have
Mo says:
not lose track, just kept talking till i went asleep
Supersonic says:
He does it at every show.
This is One from the first show of the tour.
Supersonic says:
This is the song one. It doesn't include the speech before it.
Mo says:
right, thank god
Supersonic says:
haha

Transfer completed

Mo says:
that's bloody awesome
at least he's singing live
lol
i think he's drunk
Supersonic says:
hahaha
Mo says:
i think he's reading from a sheet
just like jon on hallelujah
Supersonic says:
He's not.
As soon as the crowd takes over after the first verse and goes into the chorus Bono loses it.
He doesn't remember the second verse.
And from there it's a mess.
Mo says:
omg, he re-does the second verse
i would love to hear Dry County like that
they should re-do the guitar solo everytime richie ****s up

Just to show you that the ****ing ****** hasn't lost it, right Mo? :D

Sebastiaan

Pretty awesome, I was listening to a 3 sourced matrix audio. And I couldn't stop laughing when Bono sings some snippets of Michael Jackson' songs.

He sounds totally flat and out of tune most of the time. Oh well, it will be good to see this nostalgic act :).

hometownboy 07-11-2009 06:35 PM

i saw the michael jackson tribute on youtube. It was awful! especially Don't Stop Till You Get Enough :(

Thierry 07-21-2009 01:13 PM

So I went to U2 yesterday with Sebbie and Thunderstrucker (and some other people who are not on this board). I wasn't impressed at all. The setlist is built the wrong way, way too many new songs in the beginning. It doesn't work at all.

Also Bono, the guy who thinks he is Jesus.. Brr (and Jesus didn't exist at all - so he is believing in a lie :P). He only sang the new songs in a normal way. All the good old stuff was tuned down or sung really bad. Bad timing, Bono skips a lot of the good stuff. I thought he was terrible yesterday and really lazy.. Wanker!

Thunderstrucker 07-21-2009 01:19 PM

I enjoyed the show but that might also be because of the bad sound in the ArenA covering his other faults up haha

I salute you,
TS

Doesn't sound like I should expect too much then?

They're not going to blow me away like Jovi does?

Just go with no expection. It was just really lame that Bono didn't give all at the classic songs. And I hate him preaching too.
