Also Bono, the guy who thinks he is Jesus.. Brr (and Jesus didn't exist at all - so he is believing in a lie :P). He only sang the new songs in a normal way. All the good old stuff was tuned down or sung really bad. Bad timing, Bono skips a lot of the good stuff. I thought he was terrible yesterday and really lazy.. Wanker!

I was waiting to see what you were going to say about the concert.

Unfortunately you weren't very impressed and I wonder how many more people thought the same. Maybe you should have gone to the 2nd night as the setlist changed quite a lot from the other nights and from what I heard it was really good. And they don't sound so bad to me from the bootlegs I have, but I am not an expert of course.

Thunderstrucker 07-22-2009 12:23 PM

They mixed it a bit up yes. Still I am glad I went there on night one. They didn't play The Unforgettable Fire and Unknown Caller on the 2nd show which I like better then Desire and Elevation.

The encore still is rubbish. Moment of Surrender doesn't work at all as closer.

I salute you,
Thunderstrucker

Aloha !

Like Thierry said, it was a pretty bad show. The Edge is a wank guitar player, all he can do is strum a bit here and there and do guitar solo's that make Noel Gallagher sound like Jimi Hendrix. Bono was often out of key or either too slow or too fast. The remix of I'll Go Crazy was an embarassment (though Bono sang it like his life depended on it) and the structure of the set was completely lost.

That's a good example of the disaster that is Bono nowadays. And another thing; imagine Jon needing a lyric sheet for Bad Medicine. Because Bono needed one for One. All the improvising from Bono wasn't that great either, the Michael Jackson "medley" included just "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" and of the one line Bono sang he messed up the words repeatedly, so he's pretty convinced he's doing it right. He did the same for Man In The Mirror on other nights as well. Bono also did a part of The Beatles' Blackbird at the end of Beautiful Day which made absolutely no sense and I think he did a few others as well that made even less sense. I can't remember which ones though, he just blurred out a few words every now and then when he was out of breath so at times he was hard to understand, but I guess he thinks that his "I am God" look and pose makes up for it.

The encore was shit as well, and when With Or Without you started Bono started in the wrong key (again!), skipping from a high octave to a lower octave about 4 times in 2 verses, and then not singing the chorus like it's supposed to be sung, but singing it like you sing it when you just can't be bothered to do it anymore. And every time as soon as the audience joined in he stopped singing. He just stopped, pretending to do it because "he loved it when the audience sang it" but surprisingly it happened every time when there were the higher parts in the song.

We've got Jon not singing the chorus to Prayer properly anymore, U2 fans have got Bono not singing the chorusses to, erm, now let me see...Beautiful Day, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, The Unforgettable Fire, Pride, Where The Streets Have No Name...the list just goes on and on.

This band is being rated as one of the best live bands out there but they're far from it. Bon Jovi are miles better, even on a bad night. Tossers.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Thunderstrucker 07-22-2009 09:02 PM

I mostly agree with your reply brother.
I do not agree with that he sings too slow or too fast. There are a variety of ways to sing the words on a melody.
Besides that you mentioned quite some songs he didn't sing the chorus of which is wrong as well.

Still the show was better then the 2nd night.
The 2nd night didn't get Mysterious Ways, Still Havent Found, Unforgettable Fire, Unknown Caller but they got Elevation, Stuck in a Moment and Desire instead.

Then again. I prefer stuck in a moment over the pornversion of With or Without You with numerous moans of Bono hoping he will hit the proper key. Sounded a lot like U2 featuring Jenna Jameson. In my opinion that song was raped the most live by Bono.

I salute you,
Thunderstrucker

You'll do nothing of the sort Mo, ya hear?!

Surely you've read some of Sebs reviews of Bon Jovi shows which he has criticised alot yet everyone else enjoyed immensly? Twickenham last tour for example, a good if not great show by most peoples standards but feeble by his if i recall correctly.

U2 live in person is an amazing experiance and also a great stage show. I am certainly looking forward to Dublin in 24hrs time!

Erm, I was in the company of 2 other people who have seen U2 on every tour since 1990 and rated the show roughly the same as I did. They also thought the set was shit and Bono was wank.

And just to be clear: when we were having the "Jovitalk afterparty" at Planet Hollywood after the Twickenham shows most of us agreed with my opinion about Twickenham. And about none of us enjoyed it immensely like you're saying they did.

U2 in Dublin will be pretty different compared to U2 in Amsterdam, I guess. Still, Bono has lost it, and without their fancy lightshows there'd be nothing left of them. If U2 would do club shows it would become pretty clear of how much they need the lights, screens and fancy stages.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

mo_rizwan 07-23-2009 06:06 PM

I agree with Seb on Twickenham Night 2. However, I enjoyed Night 1. Having said that, I wasn't at Amsterdam or Frankfurt, so I can see where his reviews stemn from.

And I still haven't forgiven Jon after reading what the setlist for Night 2 was supposed to be:

Quote:

ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD
LOST HIGHWAY
BORN TO BE MY BABY
BAD NAME
SUMMERTIME
CAPT. CRASH
SLEEP
BLAZE OF GLORY
ANY OTHER DAY
IN THESE ARMS
WE GOT IT GOIN' ON
IT'S MY LIFE
FAITH
I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU - RICHIE VOX
HAVE A NICE DAY
BED OF ROSES
WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GO HOME
BAD MEDICINE
PRAYER

ENCORE:
ALWAYS
WANTED
SATURDAY NIGHT
I LOVE THIS TOWN
SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN
NEVER SAY GOODBYE

Audibles: Hey God and I Believe
With regards to U2....I dunno. It just seems that it won't be as good as how they were in the past (and that's just a complete guess on my part). Oh, and if I hear any Jacko covers (although I appreciate the gesture) I might physically cry, and that's something I don't like doing in public :D

crashed 07-23-2009 06:52 PM

I did enjoy Twickenham night 2, but it wasn't as good as the Glasgow show. But Blaze that night was pretty much the best I've ever heard.

And if they played that setlist, it would have been so much better.

It was all about expectation though....

Anyway, onto topic...

I'll keep my tickets, go to the show, and then probably be justified in what I was waying in that Jovi via U2 thread - that BJ are just a so much better live band.

But if I'm proved wrong you'll also all be the first to hear about it.

Thunderstrucker 07-23-2009 07:05 PM

You won't be proved wrong.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed seeing U2 live with their big stage and lights. But that is it.

I salute you,
Thunderstrucker

With regards the Bon Jovi Twickenham shows, the only people who didnt think much of these shows are the ones who have seen many shows from this tour and can therefore compare, such as the jovitalkers you talked to. The thousands of screaming (albeit ''casual'') fans around me are the people who I say enjoyed the show immensely, and that was pretty clear. Dublin was alot better, but Twickers was by no means a 'bad' show.

Anyways to get back ontopic about U2, their setlist seems good to me... a little heavy on new songs but that is always to be expected. U2 have several truely amazing songs, including the 'big 3' of the Joshua tree which in my opinion are untouchable and worth the ticket price alone, but i do agree that Bon Jovi are a better live act and have a stronger back catalogue.

I agree...to an extent. Bono has not 'lost it' but i do think that without their huge stage and light show and a handfull of their classic songs, it would be a different experience for sure. It would probably be shite actually.

So, what did you think of the concert? A bit different from the other days? If yesterday's concert was like that, I can't think what they will do today and the 3rd night.

It was amazing, and Bono sounded great too. Even the weird techno remix of ''If i go crazy..'' went down well.

Worth the price of admission alone for ''Where the streets have no name'' live, which is one reason why I will always go and see a U2 show when they tour.

The stage is the most astonishing production ever. But you sad schmock praise BJ for using movable screens - yeah really a revolution. And now go and **** yourself tulip boy!

U2 are icons - you should have seen the Berlin show and read the reviews. This was a groundbreaking show and the "360tour" is the best U2 tour in ages. Comparing the Lost Shitway tour with U2's 360 is like comparing a Volkswagen with a ferrari!

I'm 15 but I have more maturity than someone who must be around double my age?

Read the reviews from fans in this topic. A lot of them thought U2 were poor, others thought they were good. That's not groundbreaking in my opinion. It's hit and miss, something Bon Jovi did not do on the Lost Highway tour, they were on form for pretty much every show.

Cmon - who takes BJ seriously in the music business?! They were considered as a joke in their 80's hairband days (but I liked them anyway) and now they are only relevant for dryed out housewives getting off to an almost 50 year old shaking his butt. BJ will never be legends like U2 or Springsteen because they stand for non-quality mainstream music. I liked their mainstream until 2005 but now it is enuff!

Great! Thanks for the reply Andi. I was following the thread in u2.com and the comments were awesome.

Not sure about last night though but I have the feeling Monday will be even better.

The new U2 tour is easily the best since Zoo TV, the band is re-energized and the stage production is breathtaking. They (once again) set new standards when it comes to a live production. The reviews are mostly amazing as well.
Don't believe the bullshit you read on here by one stupid **** who was obviously too drunk to listen and watch.
You gonna love the show.

Thanks but do not worry I like U2 since the beginning and even though BJ is my top favourite band, I always follow U2...I have seen them many times live, I think the first time was for the Pop tour and I was never disappointed. And even though people "label" Bono as arrogant, I can honestly say the contrary, he was the most relaxed and kind person when I met him twice.
I am glad you had a great time in Berlin, I have the bootleg and sounds really good.

asok80 07-28-2009 03:50 PM

Well the U2-frenzy is building up here in Sweden. Went passed the Stadium today and the Claw is up minus the videoscreens. Gonna see U23D tonight as a starter before the shows this weekend.

mrleaf 07-31-2009 04:22 PM

Was at the Sat night in Dublin, and if im to be honest they did not impress me this time around.
Firstly the stage set up for Dublin was a complete shambles(no 360 stage was only normal 180 except screens were 360)
There was something up with Bono as there was no crowd interaction at all.(to much partyin after fri gig me thinks)

Someone who was with me went to the Fri gig too and said Fri gig was ten times better as there was a hell of a lot interaction and they mixed up the setlist a bit too on fri(even played a dubliners song) yet sat setlist was the exact same as their rehersal set-with the exception of mysterious Ways I think.

The actual setlist is woeful i.e starting with breath is not a good idea but they can be forgiven for that as its an uptempo number yet when they come to play magnificent it dies. This song should def not be in the position it is in the setlist.
Also finishing with moment of surrender is a strange one-the song itself is pretty cool live but not as last song.
There were a few other parts that annoyed me but dont want to rammble on.

It annoyed me a bit as Monday's gig was supposed to be very good again.

I think you just lost all your credibility right there. Would you have prefered to go see Peter Andre in concert?

mrleaf 08-01-2009 10:58 AM

One more point,I thought Bon jovi were bad at re-using words in songs but I noticed that of the 20 -songs on the setlist from the sat i was at 10 of them had OHHH somewhere in it(as chorus or bridge). It was even more prominent as 3 of them were played right after each other.

asok80 08-01-2009 11:14 AM

Well got the first show yesterday and I thought it was awesome. Huge stage construction, very cool. The whole audience has this gimick with U2 here in Sweden that we wave white when they go on stage and the blows the band away every time. :-)
However, I'm not sure I'd want Bon Jovi to have this kind of stage as it's very high (and we always stand in the pit at BJ shows) and it feels you miss out somewhat on all the effects there. We had seats yesterday (and today) and it was perfect. We got Ultraviolet yesterday and Desire and...and...oh it was just too much. Just waiting for New Year's Day and I still haven't found.... tonight.

I actually logged on to see if you posted any review from last night's concert. I am glad you had such a great time. I just CANT wait for Wembley.

Btw...not sure if anyone is interested and can watch MTV Adria, but they have a U2 Weekend starting today and then tomorrow from 1-5 pm local time. I am watching! :)

asok80 08-02-2009 01:25 PM

Well what can I say.....WOW what a show we got yesterday. We got New Year's Day, Still haven't found AND Stay! in one row. Couldn't believe it. We also got Electrical Storm, which actually was new to me. lol! so that was great. Fantastic audience both nights but yesterday stepped it out a little. We were somewhat worried if Friday night's partying would put a damper on Bono but oh no he was on fire as usual.
