Just got back from a Jam-Packed 88,000-Record Wembley Crowd :)
Awesome Day. The Band ROCKED! |

I can live with that even if 90% of the ticket money is going to the wankers iin the band. |

Anyway, even though I think Bono looked really tired towards the end of the concert, I had the most amazing time last night. What a concert! What a crowd! I loved loved it. We were in the quite centre in the inner circle by the rail. I so glad I decided to go for that spot as the stage was very high. Besides we had all of them running/walking along the catwalk in front of us all the time. And we had Bono on top of our heads when he used the moving catwalks. Superb atmosphere, I'd not trade that spot for anything in the world. Only one negative point from me...I don't like Moment of Surrender to end the concerts...I think one of their many popular hits would be a lot better (like closing with Vertigo last tour, that was brilliant!). They could have actually closed with With or Without You last night and I could have been the happiest person on earth. Again they showed what a superb band they are. |
What I liked was the fact that they played all the songs I wanted to hear.....Elevation, Vertigo, One, Beautiful Day etc. :)
Still gutted that I didn't attend Night 2 :( I wonder what that setlist was.... |
Apparently last night Bono sang a bit of Oasis' Acquiesce at the end of Vertigo, misquoting the lyrics and being dreadfully out of tune.

Seeing them at Sheffield on Thursday, Iv heard very mixed reviews (not just from on here) but will go with an open mind. Dont think it will top MAnchester 05 just becos I was a big fan of the Vertigo album.

I'd love to hear your comments (and Kev's - he is going with you, isn't he?). |
My mum and big sister went to see them on Friday, they loved it. I'm dissapointed I didn't get to go, but my mum brought me back a cool t-shirt,so that's a positive.

Nah im actually going with my Ex, weve stayed friendly for the sake of U2 lol. Should be good will post a review, im also looking forward to Elbow. |
Meh that felt like a wasted opportunity.
The stage was awesome but I don't think they made the most of it and they threw in a lot of stuff from the new album. If they'd have utilised the claw thing better (particularly with the video) and done a greatest hits set it would definitely have been in my top 5. |

Okay, U2 just finished the show about 2 hours ago.
It's very rare I agree with Seb about anything...but what the ****?? This is supposed to be the biggest band in the world??? Admittedly I don't really know any of their new stuff too well, but I have heard it, and it's rubbish. I was hoping perhaps live it would sound better, it doesn't! For those of you slagging off Jovi's new song, I would say it's about a hundred times better than any of the guff U2 were pulling out tonight. The highlight of the evening for me was I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and Bono was struggling to sing the first verse of that. Other than that...meh!! Props for the stage set up - it's ****ing spectacular. The set started with 2 really, quite mid tempo songs to open a gig with. Not sure what they were. City Of Blinding Lights should have been good with all their flashy tech around, but it was average. The Edge did a guitar solo somewhere that almost put me to sleep. And Bono was terrible during With Or Without You, and that's my favourite song, but I felt he murdered it. And then they finished with some dirge. There were a few good songs in there - but for a band of U2's stature, I expect a gig full of good if not mind blowing performances. Linkin Park was better and they almost bored me to death! The Red Hot Chilli's were better. I'm even debating if REM was better. Where's the U2 vs Bon Jovi thread again, because U2 aren't even fit to wash Obie's hot rod. |
**** Andy I didn't know you were going.
I'd been hanging around myself until my sister and her future inlaws turned up. We had awesome seats :) I didn't think Bono was that bad actually but as a total gear head I thought the sound check where the guitar tech played pretty much every famous edge riff to check that it was all set up right said a lot about U2. For all of their pomp and Bono prancing around like a preacher, it's all too clinical. If those guitars weren't set up exactly right then they couldn't play... If they didn't have the stage set up it would have been a fairly good gig where they belt out some hits and then lose the plot playing their new MoR crap. What Andy pertained to is pretty spot on. Bon Jovi get ragged on big time but out of the "biggest bands in the world" contenders I've seen pretty much all of them. Bruce Coldplay REM U2 Chilli Peppers Bon Jovi In fact I've seen all of them at least twice and bon jovi and bruce bring the rock every single time and know exactly what their audience want whereas the rest either aren't that great live or just go through the motions. |

Just really disappointed in them - she was the same (but as she's a Jovi fan too that's probably why). But even during One, which is a song you'd expect the stadium to erupt into a huge sing-a-long too (I well remember being blown away by I'll Be The For You in 2001 in seats the exact same spot) and it was just bleh. In fact, dunno' about your section but there were people sitting down for the entire gig - not just a few - a lot of people. That would never happen at a BJ show. |

Excellent seats (and they should have been considering how much they were supposed to cost :o ) The atmos was OK where i was but I've seen much much better even at a Robbie Williams gig there. The stadium was dead because of the Celtic game. I'd be surprised if there were over 40,000 people there. |
Saw them last night at Sheffield and loved it. The stage and lighting is amazing, never seen anything like it before. Only disappointment was that they opened and finished with unknown songs from Horizon, but the middle part of the set was just hit after hit. Hightlights were stuck in a moment, streets have no name, with or without you and one. WELL worth the £60 for me, loved Elbow as the support act. No gold circle shit either, the ones who braved it from daft o clock just got a wrist band for the pit (I didnt but had a great view just behind)

I actually followed the concert via radio broadcast and it sounded SO well. Even better than last weekend at Wembley. I do like the opening song (well they are not unknown to me as I love Horizon) but don't like Surrender to end it as I said before (even many die hard fans do not like it) but well...that didn't spoil the great show it was. Again, so glad you had a great time. :D |

Bono sounded awesome too, not too sure why so many people say he is not singing so well. He doesn't hit the high notes in some of the songs as he used to (and as Jon or any other singer) but still he has that amazing voice. It just melts me. I so wish I had a ticket to see them again. Also, if you want a copy of the broadcast I'll send it to you. I am sure there must be a bootleg already! |
Cheers Vanessa but I'm told that Kev has a copy waiting for me ;)
They are becoming a band I want to see on every tour they do now, just for the greatest hits alone. |
Let me know of any bootlegs going around.
I loved the Wembley show :) |

Concert is this coming Thursday, and I must say I'm getting really psyched. Granted, I've heard a lot of mixed things here and elsewhere, but with everything going on in my personal life atm, I need the fix of concerts I have in the next few weeks.
|
You're gonna love it, Trust me :)

I've been in an out following setlists. When did they drop Pride? It's one of my favorite U2 songs.
|
It won't be your favorite anymore once you heard Bono sing it. The song sounds really horrible these days.
I salute you, TS |

They were ****ing amazing, they BLEW me away. Bono was ON FIRE.

I've wanted to see U2 live for a long time, and I was really excited for this show. However, it was getting slightly overshadowed in my brain by the two Springsteen shows and the Blink/FOB/AAR extravaganza that are coming up in the next two weeks. Well, that's a mistake I'll never make again.
Setlist: 1. Breathe 2. Get On Your Boots 3. Mysterious Ways 4. Beautiful Day W/ Blackbird (Beatles cover) 5. No Line On The Horizon 6. Magnificent 7. Elevation 8. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For W/ Stand By Me 9. Unknown Caller 10. Until The End Of The World 11. Stay (Faraway, So Close) 12. The Unforgettable Fire 13. City of Blinding Lights 14. Vertigo W/ It's Only Rock N' Roll (Rolling Stones cover) 15. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Crazy Tonight W/ Miss You (Rolling Stones Cover) intro 16. Sunday Bloody Sunday W/ Rock The Casbah (Clash Cover) 17. MLK 18. Walk On Encore 1: 19. One W/ All You Need Is Love (Beatles cover) 20. Where The Streets Have No Name W/ Amazing Grace intro Encore 2: 21. Ultraviolet (Light My Way) 22. With Or Without You 23. Moment of Surrender Let me just say that the 360* is quite an impressive structure, and when it's used to full effect, it's amazing. The moving screens and catwalks are a sight to behold, and the lighting rig was unbelievable. This was, by far, the best lit show I've ever seen. Now, all that being said, the pretty bells and whistles would have meant nothing without a kickass show, and that's what we got. I've been hearing some negative things about U2 live lately, but none of them were true tonight. The setlist was more or less typical of the 360* Tour shows, but the mixing up of the opening five really gave the show a much better flow. The only problems I had with the set were minor (still don't like opening, and especially closing on unknown songs, and the lack of Pride (In The Name Of Love)) The band was on fire, and Bono sounded much better than I've heard other make him out to be. Even his political spiels were short, and didn't take anything way from the show, and I appreciated his shout outs to Springsteen and Bon Jovi. All in all, I'm really just in awe of the band right now, and how much the show moved me (Especially City of Blinding Lights, and Where The Streets Have No Name) Just amazing. Muse was better than I thought they'd be, though the sound mix absolutely sucked for the first two songs. |
