He only thrives when he's in clear air at the for, as we saw this past weekend when he sat behind Massa for half the race and only got past him because of his pit crew.

It's not because he's German, the same thing happened in 2009 with Button, who to be fair whilst not be the best racing driver out there is far more of a racer than Vettel, but without that massively superior Brawn for the first half of the season he'd have been nowhere near the title, as the second half of the season showed us.

Yeah, I get your point.

Anyway I ask you to differ a bit here.
You can't really measure the quality of a driver by how much of a racer he is.
Massa might be a great racer, yet he ****s up really often, definitely more often than Vettel.
Same with Lewis Hamilton. He is a really fast and aggresive driver, but he acts rather unreasonable at times (Monaco, Canada).

Vettel is more of a conscious, yet very fast driver.
He was not on Pole for most races this year without a reason (yes, he has the fastest car, but why didn't Webber get to the front more often then?)
Why should he have attacked Massa when the points he gets bring him one step closer to the title? I think it was a rather smart decision not to risk too much in that situation and so possibly throwing away the points.
And wasn't Alonso also unable to pass Petrov in Abu Dhabi?
Sometimes it just doesn't work even if you want it really bad and you're the best racer in the field.
And about being under pressure: There were other drivers who ****ed up when they were.

Vettel is fast without taking too many risks and that's what he should be given credit for at least.

This.

I don't hate Vettel.
I hate seeing that stupid finger, but hey, thats his thing!
And to be honest F1 was getting very boring with him winning all the time. It was like that time a few years back when Schumacher was winning.

Seriuosly? I think its Ferrari screw Massa around. I don't think he has screwed up that much..and the past few races he has been pretty consistent. I do think though that Massa has not been the same since the accident, no matter how much he insists he is. He seems to have lost some confidence...or something.

There is no way in hell Vettel was happy sitting behind Massa. He was attacking him all the time. But he could not get passed....needed that pitstop to help. If he was making the smart decision of not trying to over take him he would be a few seconds behind him all the time.

Vettel is fast, totally agree with that.
But only when he is out the front.
Cos otherwise he can't work the car.

Absolutley gutted with this
If you wanna watch all the F1 races from next year, you gotta go and get yourself an expensive Sky Sports package.

BBC are only showing half the races.
Stupid decision. If people are paying for Sky they will watch all on Sky.
And whats the point in watching half the races?
Highlights SUCK!!!!!!!

Bounce7800 07-29-2011 05:02 PM

It was always going to happen with the cost cutting the BBC had to make. F1s rights cost in the region of £40-£60 million. Bernie was never going to drop the price, despite the great production and increased ratings and so this is the compromise that allows them to still have an F1 presence and saving nearly £20 million.

Its got to be better than a half-arsed advert infested coverage from either ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5, although I say that as someone who does have Sky. So its a bugger for those that dont, but with any luck there will be ways around it by next season.

ticos_stick 07-29-2011 05:16 PM

Dirty SKY are monopolising F1 now then

I wonder if Brundle and co will make the move to SKY? I can't see some of them being pleased with half arsed coverage.

Peterson 07-29-2011 06:02 PM

Was pissed off when I heard the news this morning. Felt even worse hearing Jake Humphrey having a chat with Chris Moyles on radio 1, poor guy sounded gutted!

One thing I did read though, not sure how much truth is in the matter, but none of the teams knew anything of this deal until news broke this morning, wish I could remember the source, but it basically said that the F1 teams could come in to play and stop it from happening. Or something along the lines of that.

Will see how it goes next year anyway, I just hope the bulk of the races shown on sky are the boring ones like Valencia, Bahrain etc. Glad BBC still have Monaco and British GP, fingers crossed Belgium and Canada are also on that list.

Peterson 07-30-2011 01:14 AM

Just read this:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,19501_7066689,00.html

Looks like Sky won't have ad breaks during the races.

UKjovi 07-30-2011 11:00 AM

Why on earth did they fix the price of TV license?? Then this would not have happened. Really annoyed at this. We've got Sky but just cannot afford Sports on top and I think a lot of people feel the same way. The 2 main sports in England are Football and F1 and we've been sold down the river!

True, also found out that the races that the BBC miss, we will get 'extended highlights' from them. Hopefully by that it means most of the race rather than the hour of highlights they put on just now.

Peterson 07-31-2011 01:48 AM

Some sick cunts have hacked Jenson Buttons website and reported that he's been in a bad road accident and is in a critical condition!

Apparantly it's being fixed now though. What a scare!

Yvonne 07-31-2011 11:46 AM

What a mixed weekend for this sport.... Oh Bernie why have you sold out??????? damn you!!!!!!

Heres hoping for a good race today and a good result for McLaren and Jenson :)

Fingers crossed this is true!

Peterson 07-31-2011 05:14 PM

Awesome win from Jenson Button!!! Gutted Vettels lead is the biggest it's been all season though!

But thats 2 wins out of 2 for McLaren and Ferrari aren't far behind with Alonso scoring consistent podiums, so fingers crossed somebody can catch him.

And how scary was Heidfeld fire!! Couldn't believe it when the car exploded and hit the marshalls leg!

Yvonne 07-31-2011 05:39 PM

Great result for Jenson :) Heres to a few more before the seasons out!

Irishshin 08-02-2011 12:55 AM

Heidfelds accident was very scary! He was pretty lucky to get outta there before that fire hit like it did.

Vettel finally passed someone :P And it was Alonso was pretty surprised, but hey did it! lol.

Nice win for Button. Race was pretty good.
Cannot wait for Spa!! :)

I think in it was MArtin Whitmarsh that said they were exoecting it to be raining at Spa, fingers crossed!!!!!! Love wet races!

UKjovi 08-02-2011 05:09 PM

Jenson must be very pleased with himself :)

Peterson 08-02-2011 11:34 PM

The 'Keep F1 On BBC' facebook group (@KEEP_F1_ON_BBC twitter) are ploanning on trying to get 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac back into the charts since it's the bbcf1 title music.

the original idea was to have it in the chart before Spa, but some folk, me included have said to hold off for the final race of the season.

Anyone else think it's a good idea?

Yup loves it :)

Wish they could get the races back on bbc though :)
Know its not possible though :(

Here's a link to the petition to keep F1 free to air:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/57

i've signed it, fingers crossed it gains enough signatures!

Pass it round folks!

You can only sign if you live in UK!

SmirkSteve 08-05-2011 11:24 AM

How effective will a petition in be in overturning a done deal? I can't see Bernie paying to get out of a contract with SKY so he can make less money to have it stay on BBC, or he wouldn't have done the deal in the first place. The 'Free to air where possible' would be so easy for Bernie's lawyers to get round. I'd love it to stay on BBC but what's done is done - just like the football, F1 now it's new home on SKY.

I have no idea how effective a petition will be, but it's worth a try.

Sinead - didn't realise it was uk only :(

Time is going too slowly.
Its still 18 days to Spa.

Hopefully it'll be worth the wait! ;)

Read a report some where earlier this week that Bernie was considering bringing back the french GP.... but at a price.... alternate years with Spa. :(

EDIT: not the original report, but found something about it..... Link

UKjovi 08-13-2011 12:49 PM

^ it had better be worth it :)

To be fair Spa should be on the calander every year, not every second year.

Don't see why Bernie can't alternate France with one of the crap races... Valencia, Bahrain, Malaysia perhaps.

Irishshin 08-13-2011 07:24 PM

Too True
Although a few years ago wasnt there a rumour it would be shared with the Nurburgring and that never happened
So I hope this doesnt happen. I liked Magny Cours but not at the expense of Spa.
Spa needs to be there every year.

UKjovi 08-14-2011 12:03 PM

Oh I agree Spa should be every year. Is it a contractual thing?

Peterson 08-23-2011 10:25 PM

Not long until SPA now!!! Can't wait!

DRS has been banned at eau rouge for the whole weekend for safety reasons, pretty sure they'd take off if they were allowed to use it!

Found a list of all the F1 drivers/ teams, pretty much everyone involved in F1's twitter usernames/ accounts for anyone thats interested....

http://sidepodcast.com/twitter

Quite a long list!!!

Irishshin 08-24-2011 09:13 PM

Am sooo ready for Spa. My favourite GP and that stupid holiday is finally over (I know they deserve the break :P)

Nice twitter list Alan! Thanks

Bloody gutted for Nick that Senna has his seat for Spa.
He will prob be out of F1 now :(

Peterson 08-25-2011 01:07 AM

Just watched this - Grand Prix: The Killer Years (BBC iplayer)

Absolutely brilliant!, but sad at the same time. Quite amazing how unsafe formula 1 was back in the 60's/ early 70's. Was almost in tears at a couple of scenes, just couldn't understand how the drivers agreed to keep racing with so many deaths happening on track.

Well worth a watch though!

Peterson 08-25-2011 10:09 PM

Senna has only been confirmed to be racing in the next 2 races, Spa and Monza.

Legal proceedings are stopping Renault confirming who will be racing the rest of the season.

http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/71...Only-Two-Races

Irishshin 08-26-2011 12:01 AM

This Renault thing is gonna get interesting
Nick says his contract states he is to be the main driver of the team.

I hope he gets that seat back.

UKjovi 08-27-2011 12:04 PM

He is after 2 races isn't he? Or have I misread something?

Peterson 08-27-2011 12:16 PM

I think Renault wanted to punt him out for the rest of the season and give Senna his race seat, but he's taking legal action, so they've said Senna is only confirmed for 2 races instead of the remaining 8.

Thats the way I see it anyway.

Peterson 08-27-2011 05:19 PM

Yawn... another pole for Vettel. :(

And what the **** was Maldonado all about? What an idiot!

Irishshin 08-27-2011 07:14 PM

Bloody gutted Senna did ok today
But then again Nick could have done just as well if he was in the car :P

Alonso was disappointing.
I think Webber will win
Nice to see Massa out-qualifying Alonso again!
