wednesday's game is massive though i'm fearful we'll get turned-over.

Luckily there was no harm done with City getting beat and Tottenham and Villa drawing but you have to be gutted by that. I thought Liverpool bossed the entire game, got unlucky and then Dirk Kuyt shoulda scored in the last minute. He couldn't wish for a better chance than that. Yeah Wednesday is a massive game. I think if you beat em then you're well back in the race for fourth, otherwise it's looking pretty bleak.

Great win for Blackburn btw today. A much needed one at that. Nelsen and Samba, what must the odds have been. Nelsen wants to be careful, or he might just finish up top goal scorer. ;)

A good night for football and the right team up on top again :)

† ÀžžÀ † 01-21-2010 01:57 PM

a fantastic result for us last night. let's just hope this proves a turning point and not a false dawn, as was the case when we beat united. our next two fixtures are wolves and bolton so it's paramount we pick up six points to get right back into the mix.

it made a real difference having riera back last night. he's by no means a spectacular player but he gives us good balance and a goal/crossing threat.

Hope Ramsey gets better :(

Injury time Rangers winner in the Old Firm :)

Lucky no one understands my accent out here or I'd probably be banned from the rec :o

YAY SPORTING!

I don't get any european football on the telly out here and my internet connection is too slow to get a feed and all the kids wouldn't stfu up about it today :(

Looks like Rangers are going to be bought over in the near future. I'm not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing.

watched milan and Man u tonight... enjoyed the game..... Good to see Becks back at Man U even if it was for the wrong team ! Funny how the crowd cheered him then when he started to kick the ball they booed him.. even he found it funny.... I was shocked that Milan didnt bring Becks on earlier as he created more chances at a goal than Milan had previously in the game...

Rooney was great ... there is no stopping him...

I scored against the grade 9s in the teachers v football tourney champions today to round off a stunning 3 - 1 victory for age and fragility over youth and fitness which was quickly followed up by another 3 - 1 victory over the grade 10s.

The kids were so pissed off :D

Rob 04-04-2010 06:58 PM

Just watched a live stream from the Birmingham - Liverpool game. How the hell Rafa Benitez can bring Torres off after 60 minutes when they need a goal baffles me. Ngog got 3 decent chances and failed to score. If Torres had have been on the pitch you get a feeling he'd have scored one of them. Rafa must go if Liverpool are gonna go anywhere.

Newcastle promoted.

You should all be thankful. A real club getting promoted rather than the likes of Burnley/Hull etc.

Decent stadium, decent fanbase, a history.

The likes of Wigan who can't sell out their stadium for even the biggest games don't deserve to be in that league. Same went for Middlesbrough etc.

What's your argument?

I agree about Wigan, but the other clubs you mentioned are just as "real" as Newcastle.

Newcastle are debt ridden under achievers, Burnley on the other hand are debt free over achievers and are just as welcome in the premiership as clubs who think they have a god given right.

Clubs like that are much better run than clubs like Newcastle. With all the money they've spent you'd expect to be in the Champions League not getting relegated. The clubs that are there have the right to be there because they're good enough. If that wasn't the case then they wouldn't be in the league at all. Newcastle a proper club. Lol

So 'cause we're in debt and under-achievers we're not a proper club? I hope neither of you's are Liverpool fans...

I HATE your average Newcastlian's attitude towards the team. It's so OTT for what is essentially a shite team that's been lucky enough to have no city rivals competing for fans.

But I digress. Rangers only need 3 more wins this season to wrap up the league :-)

What is the average Newcastle fan's attitude?

*Average Newcastle fan = not the person outside the stadium on SSN during a 'crisis'.

decentstadium.com you mean? ;)

Also the average newcastle fans attitude towards the team? "blah blah blah we're a big team" but, er, what have you won to justify that? Nothing. Infact you got relegated. Big team nothing. Winning the championship doesn't mean jack alas

Please note I have nothing against Newcastle, except the "we're a big team" attitude. Keepthefaith, you might disagree but you're 16 yah? What have Newcastle done in the 16 years you've been alive? Except had a larger than they should transfer budget (which has been spent attrociously!) And what people on saying on here is what people actually think about Newcastle United. Seriously,.

Up the Arsenal btw!

That's the thing, though. I said above it's the idiots who want to get on Sky.

The average Newcastle fan knows we're awful, proved by last season's nightmare.

So, if you're a fan why aren't you at the game?

Are you even from Newcastle?

Wonderful argument.

I live in South Shields, a small town situated thirteen miles away from Newcastle. Whilst I would have loved to have gone, I am going Saturday against Blackpool instead, as I have been ill all week and had to give my ticket away and swap tickets with someone for Saturday.

THIS.

When was the last time they won a trophy?

When was the last time they won the league?

When was the last time they qualified for a respectable european competition?

They're a shower of wasters which makes the overzealousness of the average fan funny yet somewhat pathetic. At least middle table teams are quite aware that they're not as good as the big 4.

Mongoose 04-05-2010 11:05 PM

I've already explained above...:|

And the 'last won a trophy' stuff is getting old.

Can I ask, apart from Mongoose, who you lot support and we'll see what the problems with your club is?

I know Jim supports Rangers.

We're skint, haven't bought a player in nearly 2 years and are still going to do a double this season. As far as winning trophies, statistically we've won the most silverware out of any professional team in the world.

Aye that's all very well and good. You only have one serious team for competition, though. Old and tired argument but the truth remains.

Winning silverware against 1 decent team > winning **** all > relegation

You're absolutely right.

We got relegated last season, though. Can't keep looking to the past. If we did, Liverpool would be the best team in the world and the Arsenal's/Chelsea's would be lagging behind.

I'm a Blackburn Rovers fan. I know we haven't won anything since 2003 and are not likely to win anything any time soon but we're financially better off than about 60% of the Premier League because so many clubs are in debt. John Williams is a great chairman, and while he is at the helm I can't see us having any major financial trouble. That's my idea of a proper club. Not let's go out and buy the world like what Newcastle and many other clubs have tried to do.

You do make a point.

But football these days, unfortunately, forces clubs into spending ridiculous amounts of money now, and whereas Newcastle have been reckless, they have been nowhere near as bad as some clubs.

If you believe what you read, too, Newcastle are sound financially at the moment as Mike Ashley (pfft) has cleared 90% of the debt and substantially cut the wage bill. Does that make us a proper club assuming that's true?

Yes but the straight question, in my opinion, implied that since I was not at the game, I am not a real suppporter with you suggesting that the possibility of me not even living in Newcastle meant I wasn't a real supporter, either.

I think that's a load of bollocks to be honest. Mike Ashley may have been a successful businessman in the past but he knows **** all about football. What Newcastle need to do is find a chairman who is not only passionate about football, but also knows how the industry works. Only then can you gain any stability. Don't get me wrong it's been a good effort by Newcastle to bounce straight back this season. The championship is a difficult league. We found that when we got relegated as it took us two seasons to get back. Although I think Newcastle had it a bit easier as they held on to quite a few of their premiership players who are obviously good at championship level. My only worry from your point of view though, while Ashley is in charge is that I wouldn't be surprised to see you struggle next year and as soon as that happens then Chris Hughton will be sacked and you'll go back to changing your manager 3 times a season. Stability is what is needed to build success, you can't just buy it with money alone and stability only comes from the top down. Get rid of Ashley, get somebody proper in and the good times won't be far away because you have a lot of potential as a club.
