Shanks - good or bad?

Okay so who can help me out here? Shanks is recording the new album right? What other work has he done apart from **** up Bon Jovi songs and make them sound more like a middle of the road pop band? Example - Last Man Standing is a good rock song but I'm guessing Shanks added all the silly sound effects etc...

I don't know how everybody else feels about him but I don't hold much hope of this new album been more 'rock' than a Take That record.

I'm pretty torn on Shanks TBH. Of the album and a half he's been involved with, there have been some GREAT tracks and some absolute shit tracks. From a songwriting standpoint, I don't really think he's had that much influence, in the sense that Jon/Richie have continued to do what they've always done. Take the Bon Jovi formula, and mix it with a certain popular musical style. That's NOT a knock, it's a fact. They've done it since the '80s, and they'll probably continue doing it. Production wise, I think he's mediocre. HAND is way too OVER-ROCK produced in certain parts, but song like Novocaine sound pefect to me. His half of LH isn't that bad either, production-wise. Basically, I'm not in love with the guy as a producer, but I also don't absolutely despise him in that role either.

Stop having digs at people. It doesn't make you look good.

The guy is useless. Worked on the worst BJ album to date.

Oh, I'm sorry. Should I preface my opinion with pointless ****ing insults so it'll be understandable to you?

This is where people miss the fact that Rick Parashar(producer of Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam etc.) actually produced tracks 7(Wildflower), track 8(Last Cigarette, track 11(Novacaine) and track 12(Story of My Life). Between Shanks and Parashar, shanks' production is way too mellowed out meanwhile Parashar's is much more guitar oriented and more open and full, if you get what I mean. Shanks isn't a hard rock producer...Parashar is.

Is it only me that love Shanks work with Bon Jovi ? Just listen, Have a Nice Day, I Wanna Be Loved, Welceom To Wherever You Are, Any Other Day, Lost Highway. That is pretty awesome songs ! As a producer I ain't a big fan of him. Personally I would do fine if Jon and Richie worked on a couple of tracks with John on the forth coming album. But as a producer I say no ! He has a tendence to fill the tracks with way to much effects.

Novocaine was produced by Rick Parashar not Shanks. As of Shanks maybe they should find someone new but it looks like they've become good friends with him so they'll probably stick him. Question is who would be alternative Rubin, Mutt Lange, Brendan O'Brien, Don Was,again Bob Rock or someone else?

Brendan O'Brien would be fantastic! I'm dissapointed that they have stuck with Shanks for this one really. They promise a rock record then they should at least get the right kind of producer.
