Time for Jovi to get their act together!!!

I was sitting in Croke Park 2 nights ago listening to an awesome show by U2 and I thought back to 3 years ago when i sat and watched what i thought was a brilliant Bon Jovi show!! They are my number one band and i usually see them at least twice when they tour over here.
U2, i like some of their old stuff and not so much the new and I went only to say that I saw them once in my lifetime in concert. However, as i sat there i was blown away by the music, the lighting, the amazing stage and the 85,000 that filled the stadium. It made me think that Jovi have gone off the rails. This Left Feels Right, Lost Highway etc, as much as i enjoyed them in their own right, they arent the old stuff like Keep the Faith, Prayer etc!! I think they have to say sod teh record company and the 'music which teh industry may like today' and go back to the roots............lets write another keep the faith/slippery when wet record!! And lets go back to stages with great lighting, smoke, firworks, parotechnics etc like a lot of the big bands still do. The band can hold an audience but lets wow us with new material which sounds as good as all the old favourites. Jovi are not one of the biggest bands in the world, though they can claim if they want to. One of if not the biggest I saw play the other night and Bono and the boys (despite bringing politics etc into) had Croke rocking..........and it was full!!!

Come on Jon and Richie, lets put Bonjovi back on the map!!!

Aloha !

If a Bon Jovi show would be like a U2 show I'd say Bon Jovi have gotten off the rails. When you compare the musicianship of Bon Jovi to U2 they piss all over the latter one. U2 aren't that great, music-wise. They know how to put up a show, but like I said in the U2 topic; if U2 didn't have the stage and stuff they'd come across as a pretty poor live band.

Also; new Bon Jovi albums piss over new U2 albums anytime. The songs from No Line On The Horizon are pretty wank and all sound the same in a live environment. It's only when U2 start playing the classics that a crowd wakes up because U2 don't have any album tracks like Just Older or Blood On Blood that a crowd loves.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I see what you are saying, but look at the wembley live dvd.

Its one of the best shows that i've seen and I watch it so much. Its just the music that makes the show, with a minimum of stage effects. Some lighting and blow up figure, along with some fireworks. Their music prevails.

If you compare this to a U2 show, where there is "the claw" and such like stage machinery, accompanied with an array of lights, this is to compensate for what they can't do musically. Their music doenst really carry the show.

**** that.

If i hadn't bought my u2 ticket from a tout i would have asked for a refund i thought the gig was so shit.

It's not the 80s anymore and as Seb rightfully pointed out, if you took away the bells and whistles from a u2 concert it would be a piss poor gig to be at.

I guess they've just 'out-grown' that sort of stage setting.

If you want fireworks, lights ecc go to Jean Michelle-Jarre show or to the circus ;] (I'm kidding)

But you have some rights. All these lights, neons, telebims, fireworks can help me survive when U2 will play s***t boring songs from last album (which is very, very poor). I will look on these all things on the stage (which many people created for U2) trying to forget what is Bono performing at that moment.

I'm going for U2 concert in 6 september and I know that Bono voice isn't too good (at this moment) and their new songs are poor but I like them and all thes lights fireworks ecc will make that this will be good show.

I was on 2 BJ concert. They shows have great screens, stage, new technology (but without thousads of lights and fireworks) ecc but most important was that band gave us great music. Songs which I normally hate were performed perfect and I forgot that I'm listening songs which I normally don't like. God... In Stuttgart (2006) they performed "Never Say Goodbye"... I've listened this song only few time (I don't like it) and they play it incredible good. It was "magic".

Agree 100%.

as seb has said u2 are all about their set. realistically they are pretty shite live and studio and bon jovi as songwriters, musicians, and raw live performers without all the extra bollocks to make themselves look better are better yesterday and today. the eagles are the same and they eat them for breakfast !

Crushgen24/88 07-29-2009 08:06 PM

I'm a U2 fan, seeing them in September, but Lost Highway > > > > > No Line On The Horizon.

Jonty 07-30-2009 12:46 AM

again, can i point out that i am a bonjovi fan, not a U2 fan. I wouldnt be able to tell you any of the new songs on the U2 new album and so, by knowing many of the songs played, i guessed the band wasnt playing many of the new ones. For those who are going to the U2 later this year, tell me what they finish with as the end to the show was crap........it died, people left early and this is definitely something Jovi dont fail on.....twist and shout, one of their own songs, always a great ending. Seems to be a knew thing as Snow Patrol also finished with a weird ending in concert!
However, i look at the stage with the circular walkway..........and i compare it to the poor attempt by Jovi at Croke when Jon came out on it just twice and it was tiny, he loves to interact with the crowd so theres nout to say he cant get out there more. I wont compare the crowds as Croke was full and louder for U2 but they are from Dublin after all but the crowd knew the new stuff and didnt use poor ones for toilet breaks......unlike the lost highway songs on the last tour.
The Wembley stage in 05 had stuff like i mentioned before, this just adds to the show. To talk about Bono's voice is interesting as there has been plenty of people who have moaned that Jon has lost it though personally I thought it sounded great last tour. As for the last albums, again i remember comments of how rubbish the stuff is the boys are producing nowadays......LH, TLFR, Bounce etc (I ignored Have a Nice Day as i think its ok), people on this site not going to buy it any more. If Bonjovi are such a big band compared to U2 why do the numbers not match up. I would much prefer Bonjovi to be bigger than U2, in fact that would really rub Bono's nose in it but currently U2 are still bigger......probably the biggest in the world.......maybe the Stones would be the only ones to pip them.
All I want is Richie rifting the big guitars on new 'classics', with great lyrics from Jon, every album needs one. Look at Snow Patrol album, one song that will be played in bars for years to come = Chasing cars, The Killers last album poor but Human will be played for ages, Kings of Leon will be Sex on Fire (though thought this was a great album).............i can go on. Bonjovi......you hear Prayer or Its My life.............certainly nout from the last number of recent albums. I await the new album with anticipation but we have been promised a big rock record for a while and it hasnt appeared..........big album, big show. Agreed that they dont need a spider for a stage (although spectacular) but what we dont need either is a violinist up there with a rock n roll band (unless like yokohama 03 which was great despite their colds!)

KeepTheFaith2211 07-30-2009 12:53 AM

I couldn't care less what the stage looks like, I'm there to hear a band play music, and that's what Jovi do.
