Born to be my baby - intended as a folk rock song
I was just reading on the site of german radio station SWR3 about I'll be there for you reaching number 1 on the US charts and came over this information:
Born to be my baby reached the number 3 spot in the charts. Bon Jovi's producer was a little disappointed by that fact, stating the following: "Born to be my baby could have been a number 1 hit as well. The song should actually have been a kind of slower folk-rock song, an anthem in the vein of Bruce Springsteen. But the guys played it a bit too speedy and made a rocker like Livin' on a Prayer out of it. I absolutely disagreed on that." Source: http://www.swr3.de/musik/-/id=47316/...90513/1x4marr/ (translated by me, hope I got the essence right) I didn't know about that. Even the first demo we have heard of that song is almost the same musically as the album version. So I doubt that this information is right. Wonder where they got it anyway. Any thoughts on this? |
I just know that acoustic demo of the song that is something closer to "folk rock".
But I don't think it would have fit the record onto the record that well... |
Avantasian - interesting but...
I've read article in which Jon said that he wanted to put acoustic version of BTBMBaby on New Jersey and he was thinking that acoustic version would be another their Nr1. He also admitt that Farbraim tried to make another Livin On A Prayer from BTBMBaby. Jon said about thisversion of BTBMBaby. |
Ah, I see.
I knew that version and love it, but I didn't have a clue that they seriously thought about puttng it onto New Jersey instead of what we now know as the album version. I don't think it would've done any better in the charts, anyway. |
I`ve heard about it but had never heard the version itself, sounds really good and totally diffferent, I love it that Richie sings so much in it, but I still prefer the fast album version it`s my favourite song

The slow tempo version on 'This Left Feels Right' is great...for me the best thing on that album. I wouldn't call it folk, but it's really haunting and atmospheric and the guitar is real nice.

There's already a "The River", no need to do another one...
