And you cut them slack because despite this, you are still aching to fawn over the song.

A song doesn't have to be musically unique or innovative to be a good or even a great song. There's hardly anything unique or innovative about the music of Oasis yet they've created some of the best songs of all time.

And how have I 'fawned' over the song? I said it was a very good song despite my critiscisms of it. How exactly is that fawning over it?

Another listen today. Heard it on the radio and I'm more than convinced this IS a radio edit.

And to those of you who are worried the whole album might this - and yeah - we have good reason to think it could be, but they're not going to pick a hard rock song to play on the radio. It could well be this is the poppiest song on the album and that's why it was picked

But dammit - guitar solo or not. I still like it.

You can listen to all the negative comments from people here and assume that will be representative of the general reaction to the song but obviously we die hards who post only only represent a miniscule portion of fans so hopefully the wider reception will be positive. I really hope they have a big hit with this song.

everyone I've talked to loves it, except here of course. It's a catchy tune, and it's super radio friendly, so it might even reach a new generation. Who knows.

Did you hear Bon Jovi's new single?

It's called "We Weren't Born to Follow," and it was released to radio yesterday.

We find this beyond hilarious, because Bon Jovi has pretty much made a career following music templates laid down by other, better artists (starting with Bruce Springsteen and ending with whatever country-pop guy they ripped off on their last album).

The song — which is from the band's upcoming album The Circle, coming out on November 10 — features typical Bon Jovi radio-anthem polish and rah-rah lyrics like "When life is a bitter pill to swallow, you got to hold on to what you believe/Believe that the sun will shine tomorrow, and that your saints and sinners bleed."

Ugh.

Sounds like they're following a book of inspirational clichés your mom reads every morning to get her through the day. —Michael Gallucci

Couldn't agree more.

How many 'I am unique & special' songs have they written now?

You said this - "Lyrically the song is very, very good. The lyrics are intelligent, socially conscious, relevant to the times, optimistic and overall very well written."

About this

"When life is a bitter pill to swallow, you got to hold on to what you believe/Believe that the sun will shine tomorrow, and that your saints and sinners bleed."
