Best Times to be a Bon Jovi fan?
 

Considering the band has been around longer than some of the people in this forum, when do you think would have been the worse and best time to be a Bon Jovi fan

1982-1986 (Bon Jovi, 7800 Farenheit)
1986-1990 (Slippery When Wet, New Jersey)
1990-1992 (Blaze of Glory, Stranger in the Town)
1992-1995 (Keep the Faith, Crossroads)
1995-2000 (These Days, Destination Anywhere, Undiscovered Soul)
2000-2002 (Crush, Bounce).

Well I would imagine that most people favourite Bon Jovi times where from 1986 - 1990 when the band just become mega mega stars. But considering I didnt become a fan until the tail end of Keep the Faith (10 years ago yikes!) I suppose the entire time from when Crossroads was released to the end of the These Days tour were the best times for me. I believe the band were at their prime then, and the tour was amazing. As for saddest moment, well thank god I was a fan during the New Jersey days when the bad took their break and no one knowing if it was the end of their days. That must have been horrid. What were people feeling over that time who were big fans during that era? For me though, I think the worse time was after These Days and Jon went into acting, and I had to wait 5 years (suffering all these boy bands and pop tarts) for Crush.

Please I just hope we dont have to wait too long after the box set for another album. The band are all in their 40's now, I hope they are as big in 10 years time

I think, being a fan from early 1993 with KTF, the best year in my Bon Jovi fanhood was 1995, that was truly the year of Bon Jovi. Years from 98 to 2000 weren't that interesting for me as a fan.

I would've loved to be a fan back in 1986, when Slippery hit the charts! :)

1995-2002 when Crush was released was the worst time for me since it was only solo albums from the guys...

The best time was actually this year in 2002... I enjoyed waiting for Bounce and the support from everybody here!! :D Thanks everyone for making it the best year of Bon Jovi for me!!!

I must say that that the last two years have been my favorite to be a fan. I've been a fan since 1986, but this is the most access I have had to the band now. And I was only 13 in 1986, so I wasn't allowed to go to any concerts and I didn't have Mtv! I saw them in Giants stadium in 2001 which is probably the highlight of my Jovi life. My first concert was in 1993 on Jon's b-day which was pretty special too.
The worst time was definitely between 1990-1992. The rumors flew about the band like crazy. I was angry, tore down my posters and held my own boycott by not buying Blaze of Glory. My boycott lasted for 6 months until I got Blaze of Glory for Christmas! It was too good to not listen, so by the time Richie released his solo album, I was excited again. Deep down I did have faith that they would re-group. Then a year after Richie's cd, came KTF.
Now its just awesome to be a fan. I'm more proud than ever. I'll be seeing them for the 12th and 13th time this February and March. Plus, I was visiting my alma mater Michigan State this weekend and hung out at the bars. The dj played livin on a prayer and the place went nuts singing and yelling. You really didn't see that 8-10 years ago. I just hope the band manages to come out and tour every few years. I can't live without their live shows!

It seems being a fan keeps getting better and better. I missed the SWW era, but was there for NJ. However, being too young to go to a lot of shows and without cable TV, I probably missed a lot of stuff that I only later caught up on with videos.

The worst time was definitely 1990-1991. Even though Jon was at his glory days (no pun intended) with the overwhelming success of Blaze of Glory, it was a bleak time. The rumors of the breakup were constant. People would hear I was a Bon Jovi fan and say, "Oh they broke up!" which I would deny despite having my own doubts. Watching the AAA video that came out in 1990 was utterly depressing. There were funny parts, sure, but when you looked closely you realized the guys were so funny because they were drunk 95% of the time. Seeing the tour end in Mexico, you knew things were not looking good. Hearing Jon say in interviews, "Well, we actually haven't talked in months" didn't help matters. Richie going LA with Cher made you wonder if he'd come back to NJ. Word got out that David had actually been extremely ill. Tico and Alec were trying to recover from drinking problems. We all saw that Jon COULD do it on his own. In a way that was good. In a way, it was frightening. 1999 sucked too. There was so little going on in Bon Jovi land then.

For me, personally, the absolute best time was probably 1992-1994. I think that only because it coincided with my senior year of high school and early college experiences. I had all the time in the world to trade, write letters, and be absorbed in Bon Jovi when I wasn't absorbed in the books. But, as a fan, things have steadily improved too. It's nice to see the band have the level of worldwide success they have and regain popularity in the USA. It seems like the band is beyond the point of breaking up and they're all happier and healthier than ever. So, seeing that in them is a great feeling.

That's a really good question that I've always wondered too. I'm a new fan who came with the Crush wave, and while it's gotten better & more exciting the more I became *obsessed*, I always figured it was the pits of the times. I thought being a fan during their glory days would be super exciting because the band was being accepted and was everywhere. I also thought being a fan during the 1992-1995 period would be fascinating because of the creative growth and the changes the band was going through. But looking back on the Crush era, that was fun too, and I wish I had taken in more then. I only hope the ride gets better.

I honeslty dont have a best time. I have liked the Band since i was little. Since i'm 18 now, i was born about the time they started becomming big, and when i was in the 2nd grade and all of my friends were into new Kids on the block, i would be listening to Keep the Faith because of my mother. I think i was the only 7 year old who new the words to Runaway! My mom was so proud. Actually isaw Jovi at Giants Stadiumin 2001 and that concert was amazing. Iam going to see them 3 times in Feb and hopeully in the summer they will come back. Us jersey girls need our boys. Anyway i think the best time for being a bon jovi fan is when people are jealous that you are seing him bcause they heard that he puts on agreat show,or when you hear the one wild night live cdand you get chills though your bodycause o the crowd. Thats my favorite moment. so i think there is never a badtime to be a Bon Jovi fan. As the boys say "You gotta keep the faith!"

For me personally the best time being a fan started in 1995 when I got Internet connection and got to know other fans. I didn't know any other fan earlier and it is so much more fun to share the passion with other fans and be able to talk about the band with other people.

You are so right Christine. It's so boring if you can't share your memories and feelings with anyone. In the 80s I didn't have anyone who would have shared my interest in BJ (at least no one so eager that I was) but that didn't really matter because I was so young and even if I was a fan, they weren't such a big part of my life as they have been the past few years.

In KTF era I knew people who liked them but no one was actually a fan. I wanted to go to concert but couldn't get company. In 1995 after my first concert someone who knew both Laura and me and knew we were both big BJ fans, introduced us to each other and that's how it really started :D The next 1,5 years (from summer 95 to end of 96) were really great to be a Bon Jovi fan when you really had someone to share all experiences with and BJ were so big, they were everywhere. Crush/OWN era was also a great period for us fans and of course now when we are going to the tour... So I guess everytime they release an album makes the next year one big highlight :P

well, i bought my first BJ record in 95 ( these days ) so that was the best time to be a Bon Jovi fan. Those were amazing times to me.
