question about question i want answers
 

when i registered i had to answer a question to go ahead it was who is the frontman of bon-jovi. thats really easy bt the way but why did i have to answer it? i came here to discuss one of my fav bands but wasnt aloud in unless i answered the question. on top of that i then had to resort to google to find out how to spell jon bon jovi and then i saw two jon bon jovi and john bongiovi and i didnt know which one to use as they are both right its a trick question in the end i just did jon bon jovi because thats how the band name goes. dont want to rant just thought id raise the idea of that question being a weird thing to do. im very anti questions.

I'm assuming it's to stop bots signing up much like the sites where you have to type in a randomly generated word or code before you can proceed to sign up / buy something etc...

Bots are spammers.

Like a web robot. I'm not a computer expert but I guess it's like a program that can do stuff like sign up to lots of sites (or sign up for lots of accounts on one site) and then post spam from that site.

A spambot. It searches for messageboards, registers and starts posting fake messages in the hope that someone clicks on the link. A spambot can't answer questions like "Who's the lead singer of Bon Jovi" because it isn't programmed to do so.
