Foo Fighters new song

Its called Wheels what do you think to it? Its different to their norm but i really like it.

Crushgen24/88 09-24-2009 10:56 AM

I like it a lot. Not typical of their usual "singles" sound. And I like the lack of screaming by Dave.

JerseyboyUK 09-24-2009 08:16 PM

I heard this 3 times on the radio today whilst at work.

Absoloute garbage.

ticos_stick 09-24-2009 08:52 PM

I'm the foo's biggest fan, but I was hoping for a long break from their last album because they sound tired and have got progressively worse since their debut.

Lets hope this album discontinues the trend.

This is a new single off of their Greatest Hits record out in November.

Cock, well that just shows how out of the loop I am with the Foos these days :(

Well, considering I thin Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace is their best record, I can't say I agree with this. The single is from the new GH record anyway.

Argh! Are you mad man?

'There's nothing left to lose' whips it ten ways to sunday.

I think I agree with that. I say think because it always comes down to that or "The colour and the shape" for me.

Crushgen24/88 09-24-2009 09:30 PM

Actually not that big a fan of TINLTL. Colour and The Shape and E,S,P,G are my favorite of their albums, by far.

UKjovi 09-25-2009 04:55 PM

I still really like this song

severo17 09-25-2009 07:18 PM

I like the song :p

Dave 1986 09-25-2009 07:31 PM

Might pick this greatest hits up actually. I've never been a HUGE Foo Fighters fan, but I have liked the majority of their singles. I only own two of their albums; Colour And The Shape (10 Anniversary Edition) and Echoes, Silence, Patience And Grace and don't listen to them much, and therefor never pursued to buy any others.

Captain Walrus 09-26-2009 12:36 AM

I haven't heard the new single yet, so I can't really comment on that ...

But There Is Nothing Left To Lose is IMO probably the worst Foos Album. Stacked Actors is the only great song on it. Generator, Learn To Fly, Breakout, Gimme Stitches and MIA are decent, and some of the others are pretty good, but I just find the album as a whole boring compared to any other Foos album.

My favourite three albums are coincidentally the even numbered ones: The Colour And The Shape probably first, One By One second, and ESPaG third

There Is Nothing Left To Lose feels like the most natural foos record, they recorded it in Dave's basement with no time constraints and that shows. I've listened to all their albums over and over again and TINTL retains a timeless quality. Aurora is a particular favorite.

One by one is the bands self confessed worst album, a rushed incoherent album full of filler. Espag comes a close 2nd worst.

Chica Guacamole 09-27-2009 03:45 PM

Hmm...not quite sure what to make of this new one. Maybe it's a grower?

I care little what bands think of their own music, I really like 7800 Fahrenheit too :D

I love One By One, All My Life is a great opening song and single, Low, Disenchanted Lullaby, and Tired Of You are all great, and Come Back is one of my favourite Foos songs. I love the dirtier, heavier feel of the whole album compared to any of their others (its like a cross between the debut and TCATS), especially compared with the overt pop-ness of TINTL

Hicks 09-29-2009 12:04 AM

Wheels is growing on me. But to echo a lot of the comments above, they have become the presentable face of modern rock which makes them boring, and the last couple of albums have been ever more sub-standard. The last good song (and video) in my opinion was Best Of You. I'll been diligently buying their albums and DVD's but everything after One By One just leaves me a bit cold - not bad really, but not up to earlier standards. I'll give the greatest hits a miss, but will probably check out the next album proper.

UKjovi 09-29-2009 09:20 AM

Yeah i wont buy the greatest hits either cant see the point.

Crushgen24/88 09-29-2009 09:45 AM

I'll buy the GH for the new tracks, a studio quality acoustic Everlong, and the Bonus DVD.

Crushgen24/88 03-08-2010 11:28 PM

That's the end of that hiatus.

UKjovi 03-09-2010 09:25 AM

Thanks for posting that and its great they are working with Butch Vig. Looking forward to hearing this

Lady_Luck 03-09-2010 11:52 AM

I own the GH for a long time...I think it was released last year

I also have "In You Honor", "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" and "One By One"

On the GH the acoustic version of "Everlong" is really good. My favourite new song is definitely not "Wheels"! I prefer "Word Forward"

I also have the DVD live at Wembley, a must have! I really need to see this band live once

ticos_stick 03-09-2010 09:32 PM

The Foos have released pretty mediocre albums since 2000. They always talk up the new releases and promise big things but they seem to have lost their way.

I'm not holding out for anything breath taking.

SexxAtraxxion 03-09-2010 10:51 PM

Post-Grunge ****ing sucks.

Best regards,

I still say E,S,P&G is their best album.

It's your opinion and I'll respect it, but damn... It's one mediocre piece of work.

For me the foos were most relevant from 1997-2000. After that they became too refined and lost some of the edge.

I still love them live of course.

Yeah. A lot of the albums seem to have a couple of good songs that are used as singles and thats it. I also had a listen to Them Crooked Vultures, which as you may or may not know consists of Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones. I just can't get into it. The songs are just empty.

I listened to the TCV quite a lot when I first got it but since I've drifted away from it. It does lack hooks and half way in things get a bit recycled. But as a drummer I love Grohl's drum work on the album.

Thats why i didn't buy it. I listened to the songs on youtube and just was not inspired to go out and buy the album. Lacked muscle!

Foo Fighters albums from best to worst:

One By One / The Colour And The Shape (both equally awesome, at a push I would probably choose TCATS)
Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
In Your Honour
Foo Fighters / There Is Nothing Left To Lose (both have some top songs, but far too much filler)

true - and Grohl destroys every song with his annoying voice

Mine's the same except I'd swap One By One for TINLTL. TINLTL was for me the last natural sounding free flowing album, can't agree with the filler comment either.

One By One is s strange album, it spawned two of the bands biggest hits (All my life, Times like these) but the rest of the album is pretty turgid. Taylor Hawkins hated so much he threatened to leave the band, Grohl later admitted he dislikes the album and said it was rush released.

The band have a bit of an odd sense of their own material. One By One has great album tracks as well, Come Back is one of their best songs IMO, Disenchanted Lullaby and Tired Of You are also great, and songs like Halo and Overdrive are among the better of their filler tracks. The whole album is dark, heavy and alternative - so much so that it almost works as a double release along with Songs For The Deaf by Queens Of The Stone Age from the same year.

TINLTL is just a fairly decent pop album to me. Stacked Actors and Generator are great; Aurora, Gimme Stitches and MIA are good album tracks; and Learn To Fly and Breakout are decent (if a tad overrated) singles, but the rest are nothing really to write home about.
