where did "inspiration" for some bj songs come from ?

Well lets critisize our favourite band a little..
Don't you guys think that they inspire themselves a little too much on other
artist's songs ? Let's see...

Undivided - Weezer: Hash pipe
august 7, 4.15 - neil young - rocking in a free world
the last night - Don Henley: last worthless evening/heart of the matter
summertime - weezer: beverly hills
ugly - tom petty mary jane's last dance
hey god - prince: sign o' the times
have a nice day - u2 beautiful day
hearts breaking even - aerosmith: cryin'

we weren't born to follow ?

Well, ok, BJ have writen a lot of songs. It's normal that some of them hear like something else!

The songs you mentioned are similar, not exactly the same of course!

I'd say that the guitars in the intro hears like Last Man Standing (the style of playing). The lyrics in verses are similar to Its my life (This is for..../This aint for...) The chorus can be confused with Born to be my baby...

It's normal! Even the best song ever has similarities with other songs!

To pretend that artists aren't influenced by other artists is ridiculous, however, I don't that Bon Jovi is particularly notorious for copying songs. Sure, some songs sound similar with others but Jovi has written so much stuff it's no suprise.

i don't mean that it's bad.. I love all of the songs i"ve mentioned.. It's just sometimes it's really funny to find quotes from different artist's stuff..
it's like "hey, i know what Jon was listening to - the day he wrote it !"

well to be honest.. he can even cover such a simple and obvious song as "stand by me" with his vocals and he brings magic to the game..

In my opinion he crossed the line only once - with august 7. Especially that
the band covered the song on the these days tour - just before he started to work on destination record. He even played the same guitar solo he once performed on rockin' in the free world during the concerts..

"Livin' On A Prayer" --------> Belinda Carlisle - "Heaven Is A Place On Earth"
"You Give Love A Bad Name" -----> Bonny Tyler - "If You Were A Woman And I Was Your Man"
"Joey" -----> Elton John - "Levon"

Seat Next To You - Lola by The Kinks
Who Says You Can't Go Home - She Bangs The Drums by The Stone Roses
Captain Crash - Stay Young by Oasis
Janie - Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis
Joey - Levon by Elton John/Joey by Bob Dylan
Bells Of Freedom - This Ain't A Love Song by Bon Jovi

That's what I've noticed.

Its just coincidence. And some songs sound similiar because we have those few basic chords for ages. They won't intend to steal

Alphavictim 10-17-2009 07:19 PM

Desmond Child.

Probably yes, with Prayer or Bad Name. But come on... "August 7, 4:15" and "Levon"? It's not about the chords.. Those are Free World and "Levon" with other lyrics...
