Jon Playing Guitar live during Bad Name
So it seems to me that Jon at the Honolulu shows was playing Rhythm guitar during you give love a bad name. I know he does this usually at soundcheck but seeing that they have bobbi filling in I don't see the point of this since it restricts his movement on stage. The same was done for Bounce and Undivided early on but was dropped once the Bounce tour started.

I think it's great, to be honest. Could freshen the song up.
However, I have always believed 'Bad Name's rightful spot is second in the set. I don't think things will work with Jon having to play acoustic guitar on the first, electric on the second etc. It'll just cause more hassle than it's worth, so either move the song down in the set or don't use it. |

As you write - it restricts his movement on stage. Imagine that they started the show with Lost Highway - he played acoustic, then was WWBTF - he played acoustic, then was Bad Name - he played guitar as well. So he was standing a the mic for the three opening tracks (when the first two are boring and the very first is utter shit) - what a great way to kill the show at the beginning. And yeah, it shows how important Bandiera is. Like David sadi in the interiew I have translated to English here - Bandiera helps him because he plays some parts David had to play from synths. Even the tracks where second guitar could help the sound, he brings nothing. Why is he there??? |
I had no problem with their sound live before Bandiera started playing with them on tour. Sure certain songs can use an extra guitar sometimes live but I never thought this was such an issue. I figured that if Bandiera was going to play live they could use him to take over some parts that Jon plays live but obviously as you stated this is not the case at all. At least they don't have fiddlers, the extra keyboardist and the pedal steel live anymore. I think pedal steel was dropped after the Canadian leg of Los Highway, thank god. In regards to Los Highway as an opener I actually like it but I think they should drop it since they did that almost every night on the LH tour especially if that forces Jon to play guitar on the first three songs.

Bobby played guitar on Bad Name on the HAND and LH tour yet could never be heard. With Jon doing the riff as well in the song on the verses it gives the song a much better sound. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
I think it wounds great. Plus jon you can clearly se is bored with the song, he was barely moving when they played it on the LH tour also. If playing guitar and playing the solo can freshen up the song for him and make it more fun to play it then more power to him. Plus he does a better Job than Bobby on the solo :p

Maybe Jon's as bored of Bad Name as a lot of us are. Anything to freshen it up is a good idea IMO. Hell, they can bring out Blake Lewis and let him beatbox it as far as I care.

I've always maintained that they should be re-arranging/adding new parts to songs like Bad Name to keep them fresh and even desirable rather than obligatory. You had the completely new breakdown section in Blood on Blood on the Jersey Syndicate tour as well as even Bad Name having a slightly extended ending at times. Small stuff like that can go a long ways especially if it adds something that you wish was on the studio version.
