Danfans' non-mattering review of both Mohegan Shows

So, you all know my feelings on night #1. $200 face value tickets and only 20 songs. That's bullshit, but falls more on the casino than the band. And Jon made the adjustments for night #2 and hit the stage about 15 minutes earlier, so that was cool. The set list for both shows I was very happy with. Jon sounded great. I'll get the negatives out of the way first:

- Someone needs to tell Jon he sounds like a moron singing WWWB and pronouncing it "beautee-full". Just say "beautiful".

- Mohegan Sun crowds suck. Half the people there are comped their tickets, and the other half is drunk.

- No need to play Captain Crash at all, let alone 2 nights in a row.

- They needed to space things out a bit differently, as the encores were pathetic.

- While Love's The Only Rule is one of my favorites on the record, it didn't go over well at the show. It's not a good closer to the main set.

- Richie sucked ass at both shows.

- I hate going to shows at Mohegan Sun. After a couple of hours of sucking in 2nd hand smoke, I was sick as shit for the entire 2nd show.

As for the positives:

- Jon seemed to be in a great mood, especially the 2nd night, and was by no means on auto-pilot. He sounded great too.

- Though I don't care for Miss Fourth of July, kudos on how good it sounded.

- Why the hell aren't they playing HAND at every show. It got one of the best reactions of the night, despite Richie screwing up.

- The stage and screens are incredible.

- I didn't lose any money at the casino.

- We Got It Going On and Work For The Working Man have been 2 of my least favorite tracks, yet went over fantastic live. Superman Tonight and Love's The Only Rule are 2 of my favorite tracks, and neither go over well live. Go figure.

- Driving home, I heard Superman Tonight on the radio twice. First time hearing it on radio.

That's really about it. Great shows by Jon, though the 1st was too short. There's something wrong with Richie. Dave is fine as always. Bobby was pretty cool too. Hugh was Hugh. Tico looks like he's about to fall asleep back there, but sounded fine.

great review but did you love it or hate it?
after $400 bucks was it worth it?

I'd say I loved it. The show in itself was great, and the crap problems, weren't the fault so much of the band. Casinos suck.

Your review is very level headed and honest. Much more insightful than the average.

The smoking situation would piss me off too, thank god it's outlawed in the UK.

That was a nice level-headed review, much better to read than the histrionics of so many people who aren't even at the shows they comment on. I've often found that there are songs I like that I don't want to hear live and songs I don't love that go over really well live. Why did Richie suck? What was he doing wrong?

Every time I read a negative review about Richie's performance I get kinda :(

I'm a wuss I know.

I agree and disagree with Dan's review. I have seen LTOR at three shows and it works. Jon gives a very impassioned speech in the beginning, by the end of the song people are sucked in. You may not agree but there others who will disagree. Crash does not need to be played at all. WWWB, why does it matter if he pronounces it a different way. The song is better live then on the record. Superman works for me.Richie may have something going on but I don't think he's drinking again. If he sucked ass as you put it then how could it be a great show?

Glad you enjoyed them (for the most part). All this stuff about Richie is really not heartening.

LTOR and Superman both worked for me - They didn't work for the rest of the crowd.

As for WWWB, I'm just giving my opinion. I think he sounds kind of silly saying it like that.

It was a great show, because Jon saved it. He was energetic, sounded great, and covered for Richie when he could. I thought Richie's vocals were great, but his guitar playing was sloppy, especially by comaprison to what I've seen from him in the past.
