Now available: Ad-Free Jovitalk Subscription

Hi all,

starting today, Jovitalk users have an option to view the forums completely AD-FREE. No popups, popunders, full screen ads, banner or even text ads.

Ad-Free Jovitalk subscription costs 12 EUR/year i.e. 1 EUR per month. You can only subscribe for one or two years (discount), as smaller amounts are pointless due to Paypal fees.

To subscribe, click here, select subscription period, and pay using Paypal (subscription will be activated and ads will disappear instantly): http://drycounty.com/jovitalk/payments.php

This option has been planned for some time now, but I've been occupied with other areas of life. The recent uproar due to the amount of ads convinced me to go ahead with implementing Ad-Free Subscription.

I don't view this as donations, but purely as a paid option to use the forums ad-free. Use of forums itself will never be subscription based. But, I will definitely try to introduce specials features for Ad-Free users if there as enough subscriptions. For now, these users have no more PM limits. Other goodies will follow after forum software upgrade to vBulletin 4, coming later this year.

I've tested the subscription procedure and it works fine, but if anything goes wrong (Paypal problems, ads don't disappear, something else stops working, ...), let me know here in this thread or e-mail me at peter@drycounty.com.

Peter

Aloha !

Or you could just download a free browser with a few good add ons and you'd save yourself 12E.

There's a friggin' advert right at the top of the page advertising the ad-free subscription for this very messageboard!

Mary, Mother of Christ.

^ no, that's not me signing this post as Jesus' mother. That's me rolling my eyes verbally.

I don't get bothered by ads because I have a decent browser with anti ad software.

Why can't people just be advised of ways to help the problem instead of being asked to pay.

Oh and subscribers are going to get extras.... what an incentive

No ads, no $$$ to cover JT-related expenses. As most ads allowed on message boards are paid per click, the forum is making a couple of EUR per month. I'm not sure whether that is sad or funny. At the same time, JT accounts for the majority of server load and attracts most spammer and other types of attacks (and taking most of the time I spend fixing things). The rational decision would be to try to sell the entire site, or to pull the plug on the board. Instead, I'm giving this one more try. Instead of bickering, go ahead and create your own BJ forum, perhaps people will follow you there.

I wasn't bickering, just pointing out some options for people who don't want to be ripped off.

I have no problem with ads generally -- after all, most of my web writing revenue comes from click ads and if everyone was using ad blockers, I'm not the only freelancer who'd be struggling -- but pop-ups are the bane of the universe.

We never had pop-ups here before, what happened? :?

No bickering from me - I think that this is long overdue and I'm delighted that you finally considered it. I'll be happy to go *ad free* and perhaps help defray some of the costs of this forum.

**Done - you will see me listed as Irene Kathleen Eldridge rather than just Kathleen. Many years ago when I joined Paypal there was a deadbeat Kathleen Eldridge who owed them all sorts of money (which they tried to charge me for) and it was easier to add my Mother's name than to fight it out with them.

For how much?

or to pull the plug on the board.
Or sell the board to someone else. Again, for how much?

He installed more pop-ups so more people would opt for the pop-up free option. It's just a business to him.
