Whilst I agree, he should be dropped if under-performing, Rooney has to be treated carefully. His temperament means that he'll likely go into self-destruct mode if he feels aggrieved so an impact sub in his current frame of mind, he ain't.
I think he would take being dropped to the bench quite personally, not that Capello isn't afraid of doing it or wouldn't be right to do it but as one of our most creative players, it's important to keep his fiery persona focused on constructive efforts rather than (self) destructive.
I think he should start with Defoe as last time and stop dropping so deep to get the ball. If it's not working, bring either one of them off for Crouch IMO. :)
