Reviews of the band
I was reading a review today of the band in a Sunday newspaper (News Of The World, - not the same as C'monFeet has posted - some may say that discredits anything I have to say right now).
However, I was reading this review in utter shock. We all know Bon Jovi aren't liked in the press. We know it's not cool to like them and can even see why they aren't liked. However, the reviewer in this case criticised Bon Jovi (or just Jon, really, as it is these days) because of the following: - When Jon talks to the crowd, it's soulless. He is not a good frontman. - He sounds like 'Grampa' from 'The Simpsons' while singing 'Hallelujah' - Everything he does at a show is auto-pilot except for a dance and shake of maracas in 'Keep The Faith' - There is no sponatneous factor to the show - Going to the show is okay for 'grabbing your friend and screaming the lyrics to 'Wanted Dead Or Alive', but this band give rock a bad name'. This thread is because of the fact that really this band just gets judged on harsh things nowadays. The review didn't really mention how the show was based on performance or mention any other band member (they usually talk about Richie at least). Obviously a topic which is talked about lot and will continue to be, but do you think Bon Jovi get judged fairly? Do they get judged on what matters, the music, or is it all about how they had long hair and silly clothes a few years ago and now that they've changed they're still fake? |
ok that is kinda annoying because i actually can now hear the grandpa from the simpsons thing! :D...but the rest is bullshit, that is not a band on autopilot!

Some of it is true. But to be fair, certainly Bon Jovi aren't the only ones guilty of this. I've never understood why artists have to say the same thing night in and night out. When that happens, it seems fake. LIke every time the crowd sings the intro to Prayer, Jon's little "It doesn't get any better than that." And maybe I've just been at the right gigs, but the last dozen or so shows I've seen Jon always says "I've been waiting for this one." Now the whole jukebox bit with Bobby. I mean, it's cool and all, but use some creativity.
You've got critics who are gonna bash anything the band does. Then you've got critics who have seen bands (maybe not as good technically live), like Pearl Jam or Oasis, who don't say the exact same thing every night, and look at Jon and think "What a phoney." I mean, can you blame them? |

If the line is either a) entertaining, or b) heartfelt and honest - there is no harm in it. |
Didnt expect anything differently from News of the world though. Not sure about Pearl Jam as ive never had the privildge of seeing them live but oasis are a band that you could not tell the difference between auto pilot and performing i.e they are the same- Liam just stands there and makes a few "come on " hand movements and hardly ever interact with anyone other than to try start a fight.

I'm not a fan, the band's values and mine seem far apart. But what struck me was how much it was just a professionally delivered rock show; that they actually do have a hell of a lot in common with a band like BJ despite the differences in presentation. I did enjoy the show. |

This is I guess how writing this review went...
Someone had to go see the show to write the review. No-one who was familiar with the band. So the checked out some internet and probably sat down amongst colleagues. Bon Jovi, ow that's the 80's heavy metal band for chicks. Totally past, bla bla bla... So this guy goes to the show with this idea in mind and everything he sees and hears the guy goes like ... oh, so eighties, oh so bad, oh so predicable, oh so autopilot, oh so this and that... Pffff... Listen, I'm totally not fond of a band such as Blur.... so if I go to see their concert and I'm not willing to go in with open view, i'll write a bad review no matter how great. Not worth paying attention... |
