Setlists and a double-edged sword.

It seems the only way the band can actually make sure every fan gets equal billing is to play the same set every night.

I'll all for critiquing what they do, but reading all of the posts about the setlists in each "official" show thread made me realize the more the band do, the more they have to continue to do to stay on everyone's best side. A lot of of us here aren't the biggest fan of Lost Highway, but yet the band play their songs and it's like: "Why are they playing these?" I know it's not what each of us would do, but we don't know how to do this better the Jon or the band. I mean, if so, we'd be doing more with our musical aspirations than rocking out the Drycounty.com boards. Some of us are, for sure, so I'm not insulting anyone, just making an observation that most of us, including me, think often that we'd have done it differently. I think the band has changed and varied the setlist more than ever before here lately, but we still have many thinking it's not good enough.

Anyways, just ranting. I am still most stoked about Let It Rock's return!

Of course we know how to do it better than Jon. It's obvious. All they have to do is play the songs that really want to play, instead of trying to please every category. That's why I wouldn't bash the band for playing Open All Night- do I like it? No. BUt it's clearly a song Jon loves and wants to play. Which is fine. But the band has basically dropped any support for the Circle in favor of songs that appease the crowd more. And that's wank.

I do completely agree that dropping the Circle songs wasn't cool! And I do like Open All Night, though I've never been a fan of the sound on Bounce. It's more of the production than the songs themselves. The band just seem to be trying pretty hard to please everyone, and it's great to see, but there is just no way. I think they do feel they have something to prove again, with the ticket controversies, etc.

Sets

Fairly clear that these o2 shows have seen the greatest changes in sets in a long long time.

Problem is is that there is a difference between what jon wants to play, what he thinks the crowd wants to hear and what we think he should play. To be fair, his assumption that most people at a jovi show are casuals has been proved true by the o2 shows. At the two I've gone to most people in the crowd just seem to want to hear 'bad name' , 'bad medicine' etc whilst most of us on this site want 'wild is the wind' and 'something to believe I '!!

This problem, however, is mirrored by message boards from all bands as far as I can see. Hard core die hards of all bands are generally at odds with setlists, it's the downside of seeing a band so many times.
