Supersonic's all mattering Bon Jovi at Giants Stadium review

Aloha !

Right, here we go. I'm at Newark airport right now and my flight to Chicago just got delayed by 45 minutes, there apparantly is free wifi available though the signal strength is very poor, but I figured why shouldn't I kill some time by writing my all mattering opinion on the 4 shows at Giants stadium? Unlike previous reviews, I'm not going to get into these shows seperately but will give my opinion on what according to Bon Jovi are probably the most important or best shows of the the tour. I'll skip the bullshit about how I met my future wife, will met up with everyone and will save that for a separate review if I've got any time to kill later on in Canada or something, although meeting so many people this trip made it all worth it. But more about that later.

Night 1:
We got in the venue way to early due to will call closing too early as well. Backstage gives you early entrance, but that also means that you have to get your tickets earlier because their tent closes earlier as well. If you get there at 8pm you're ****ed, because that means you'll just have to get them at the regular will call office. A bit weird that, and for some reason I forgot that wasn't the way you wanted to go according to the Amurrecans I was with. I don't understand why anyone would want to arrive early at an all seated show anyway, unless it's to beat the traffic. There's no need to rush to get into the venue, you're seated anyway so why should you bother about being there on time? This is, I think, the only thing I liked about this compared to the European shows. You don't have this queuing up bullshit in order to get your good spot. However, with the GoldCircle tickets on the last 2 tours being there, I have my fingers crossed that these won't be too expensive next tour. I've always ended up in the back of the GoldCircle anyway, and when having a ticket for that area you won't have to deal with queuing up either, which is a good thing. I don't care about being front row at all, you end up in between a lot of tired tossers from Backstage who are too ****ing tired to care about anything apart from their spot, so I'd rather be with some people that appreciate the music instead of their private area.

The stage for the stadium shows is nothing fancy. As a matter of fact, I happen to think that after all the talk about robots, Batmans, marines, special lightning, pre programmed videos everything looked rather meh to me. I thought the same of the robot stage in Paris, and for a band of the size of Bon Jovi they once again missed the boat when it comes to a good stage for a stadium or arena show. I'm not saying they should pull a U2 and build this giant spider that blocks everyones view, but I've never seen a stage at a Bon Jovi show of which I thought looked cool. And the stage for the stadium shows looks like one you'd see at a festival. Further on, there's always something wrong with the screens, they never ever always work all the time, so it comes across as “We'll spend this much on the stage and that's it”. The stage for the Bounce tour was still the best I've seen, even though that looked a bit odd and low budget as well.

On to the show now; I think Train supported the first show, and they're a good band but not really my cup of tea. I think I went for a drink (which at the price of $6,- for a coke were obviously very cheap) and when I came back the wife told me I'd missed their Led Zeppelin cover. Now I am one who doesn't care about Led Zep anyway, but Train is not a band you want to hear covering a hard rock song. Obviously we got to hear all of their 2 hits (apparantly they've had more in Amurreca) and they were a good opener, but not better than any other average band. And I don't like this stuff of an opening band showing his pipes and everything just to show off. Just sing your songs and **** off.

When Blood On Blood opened Jon looked happy but nervous. A lot has been said about the setlist and although I agree that it was very bland and vanilla on paper the delivery indeed is a lot better to what many of us had seen before. Still, playing Whole Lot Of Leaving as your fourth song is just stupid. I'm not saying it's a bad song, because to me it isn't. But the energy was sky high after Bad Name, and when Leaving followed it looked like everyone was leaving, but no. I just witnessed the first piss break at a rock show. Never before had I seen such a mass exodus to the toilets, which made me even more surprised considering this wasn't the first time Jon played it as the fourth song, so I'm sure he knows that it doesn't work. So why keep doing it then? The same happened with Superman Tonight and When We Were Beautiful. I knew it when these songs were released; they were not going to work at a live concert, and they didn't. They just killed the atmosphere and Jon realised this as well. All through the night it looked like he struggled to stay happy, but I don't think he really was. Especially when the PA blew out and there was no sound coming from the PA anymore. The band kept playing, but during th break of the song right before the guitar solo Jon knew because suddenly his face turned all moody. I know Obie said they told him after the show but I don't believe it and neither did anyone else I talked to after the show. Jon was ****ing pissed and Richie kept trying to cheer him up. Right on from that moment Jon went on and off on autopilot. He was either trying to have a good time or trying to keep himself happy because he knew this was his homecoming show (once again; more about that later) but it was only during Who Says that he started to have a bit of fun again, which was a bit late in the set.Work For The Working Man. If there's one song that doesn't work live it's this song. It's a plonker, and they obviously put a lot of work in the visuals, but it comes across as very corny and even a bit dated as well. Still, the worst part is when Richie, Hugh, Jon and Bobbie start to march in the same way as the workers in the video who just lost their job. It's just wrong, wrong, wrong. And I don't think the band realises this but when they do such a thing they pretend to be the same people who just lost their jobs. A lot has been said about this song, but if there was ever a song that makes them sound like a bunch of hypocrites it's this one, and them pretending to be the workers who just lost their jobs even though they haven't done a proper shift in 28 years, and are so out of touch with the people who really have to work for their money is something that doesn't exactly makes me proud of this band. And when Jon touches the stage and the camera zooms in on his hand while it goes “these were my...streets” nothing makes sense anymore.

Keep The Faith however was good. Really good. Still, not that many people cared about this actually. All the fist pumping you see at the European shows during the “FAITH!” part of the song just doesnt happen. It falls flat on his face and it's weird but Jon still has to sell this song like crazy. They had visual effects for this song as well, as in pyro going off on the screen, which just looks silly. If you're going have pyro in the show, make it real pyro instead of these cheesy effects. Which was what they ****ing did in this show. And as soon as the pyro got off all around the venue Jon loved all that was happening again and seem to come to terms with the show and realised that it wasn't as bad as he felt it was. He was a bit late with this though, considering how this was the 23rd song of the set, but still. In my opinion they should use pyro like this at every venue. If it's not possible to do it all around the venue then at least do it inside. It makes the set finale so much better and really makes the show special. The performance rocked, and it was a solid main set. No, there weren't any huge surprises but it was just a good show. Though the encore might've been a surprise to most people there but we all kinda knew it was going to be Dry County. Which in this case, wasn't a bad thing at all. Now I heard Dry County at Dusseldorf when it made it's return to the set after 10 years and Jon's voice was show and Richie was drunk, I've heard Dry County at Twickenham where the performance was flawless but there wasn't any soul in there and it fell flat on it's face, I've heard the several other performances of the song on bootlegs and now I heard it at Giants Stadium. And I'll be honest here, but this really was the best Dry County that has been played in the past 14 years. Bobbie and Richie both did the guitar intro and outro and it just sounded lovely. Jon's vocals were a bit rusty and I think he was tired by now, but none of this mattered. I think every die hard knew that this song was being played for us, and unlike Twickenham tonight it got passion in it. And another thing I realised was that the crowd didn't suck during this song but they seemed to be really listening to the song and taking it all in. It wouldn't have been my choice to open the encore with but tonight it worked. The atmosphere was good, and when Wanted and Prayer finished it off we'd just seen a good show. No, it wasn't incredibly special, no it wasn't incredibly long (even though it was longer than any average show) but yes, this was one of the better shows of the tour and I liked it.

This show was just as good as any European show, and the only thing that disappointed me was that it wasn't treated as a show that opened a building. Back in the car we all realised that if Springsteen had opened this show he probably would've played at least another half hour and although some people might say it's unfair to compare the 2 bands, Bon Jovi and Springsteen are both artists of the same area and play in the same venues and probably have the same audience. I didn't get why Jon didn't want to go on longer. The acoustic set could've been longer, a rare song or 2 could've been played in between there and I do think that the reason why all things were done the way they were done is because he gets too focused on the production. Still,

By now I'm in Chicago and have to wait for my connecting flight to Calgary to meet Bang_A_Drum, also known by his friends, family and enemies as Erik. Once again there's plenty of free wifi available but all connections are so poor at the place where I'm sitting right now that I can't really do anything apart from just typing my review, which is what I'm doing right now. The laptop is charging and on my right I see the planes landing and taking off. I'm sitting here thinking right now how much my life has changed in such a short time. About a week ago they finally told me I graduated but I wasn't even thinking about it anymore. All I thought and think about is Kathleen's daughter Katherine, and who would've thought I'd meet someone in America of who I'd just know that she would be my wife someday? The reason why I'm including all the flight details and everything is because I honestly can't understand why travelling this much can be boring to many artists. I'm just sitting here on the floor with a laptop on my knees hoping it gets charged on time before I have to get on the plane to Canada, but they're having all the luxury in the world and I don't understand how you could get bored over something like that. The only thing that I start to realise is that all this traveling can make you very tired, yet they've got all the luxury aboard of the plane as well. I've been lucky to have been able to sit near the path between the chairs so far, but I was also able to see the chairs of the 1st class. You can easily fall asleep there and sleep as comfortable as you can in your own bed. So really, I don't see why there's any reason to complain about traveling to and from the shows. Us Europeans think traveling to a show that's over 45 minutes away is a bitch, yet it easily takes you 45 minutes to get to Giants stadium, even if you live in New Jersey. So what's all the talk about their homecoming show about then? All the talk on how “they don't have to travel for those shows”, when most of the band don't even live in New Jersey anymore? To me it comes across as complaining for the sake of complaining.

Night 2
Anyway, those are just things I start to realise now that I've started to travel this much. I'll review the second show now, a show of which a lot can't really be said, apart from it being a lot more fun than the first show. I reckon Jon felt the pressure was off. On the way in the car I started to predict all the changes and sadly I was right because I guessed 5 of them as they'd been changing the same songs every time they played 2 consecutive nights in a row. Still, there were a few surprises as in Never Say Goodbye, a song of which I don't think it was planned as apparantly the wrong lyrics came up on the teleprompter, this resulting into Jon messing up the lyrics once he realized he needed the lyrics of the second verse, and they weren't there. And even though it's appaling that he can't remember the lyrics to his songs it's these little things that make the show more fun. He messed up and it's not a bad thing, this is a moment during which anyone just thinks “Oh well, who cares”.

So yeah, this show was good, a fair amount of setlist changes, a few more rare songs in there and really the only downside was that Terri let Katherine in the pit which meant there was no way I'd be able to be at this show with her, even though we hadn't planned it that way either. I was there with Alana, who, I'm ashamed to say this, took a piss break. Now Alana, you know I like you but you lost a lot of my respect because no matter how bad the show is, piss breaks are a thing only bad, baaaaaad people do. She took one during Memory and I honestly don't understand why Jon thinks a show like Memory needs to be played at a show like this. I know he wants his solo spot but then why play absolute shit songs there like Memory and Hallelujah? And why does he even need that solo spot? Over the years the “this is a man band” has turned into a “I am the fearless leader of a bunch of muppets who will just have to accept everything I do” band, a thing that became very obvious in the documentary. So no, Memory or Hallelujah don't need to be played at these shows. Do them in your own time, and judging by the crowd reactions to Memory it's clear that I'm not the only one who seems to think so. Yes, there's people who like it, I know Kathleen likes Hallelujah, but seriously, why at every show? Why should it be a regular? And why should Memory be it's standard replacement every time Hallelujah is out of the set?

I feel the same about the acoustic set. There's just so much more they can do and it's cool that Something For The Pain is performed every night, but the acoustic version of Sat Night? Is this once again the “one for you, one for me” theory? Why not make the acoustic set something during which they jam a bit? At the jam sessions after the first show I played a shitload of stuff on my acoustic guitar and I just showed that it is possible to rock out on an acoustic guitar. Heck, Bon Jovi showed it in the nineties when they did acoustic versions of Little Bit Of Soul and These Days. If my acoustic rendition of Blame It On The Love Of Rock & Roll works in a room of die hards and casual fans, it surely should work in a stadium performed by a full band. So why not make it more fun? Once again the spontanity suffers from the production. It's all a little too perfect, from the “Tico people have been waiting for 25 years to see you stand” to the “sexiest accordion player David Bryan” comment. Sure, it works, but there's no way they sold out 4 shows to 240.000 different people. It's a bit appaling that Jon gets stuck with the same songs and even the same comments in between the songs because he slowly becomes a caricature of himself when doing that.

Anyway, enough rambling for now. Because unlike what you might think, I honestly think it was a good show. It's just that I can't help but feeling that it could be a lot better. Still, Keep The Faith was, apart from the one in Amsterdam 2003, the best Keep The Faith I've ever heard. Jon gave everything and during this performance it became obvious that this was a man possessed by his own song. I have never, ever seen a singer try to give everything he had as Jon did that night. Yes, we all know that the vocals weren't perfect, but he was trying and succeeded. His vocals right now are at the level you can expect of a band who toured that much in the eigthties. He's about to be 50 years old, Keep The Faith is 20 years old, so this is more than acceptable. I told Alana that she'd be surprised at how amazing the pyro would be and I hoped it wouldn't be just for the first night, but no, once again we had the pyro that made it special on the first night, and tonight Jon was a very tired, but happy man when he left the stage for the main set. I was hoping for a huge surprise in the encore but Jon in a way played it safe by opening with one of their biggest hits. By now most of you have seen how his voice was failing near the end of the song but once again, that's alright considering he struggled with it already on the 1996 tour and unlike what many of you think, his voice is better on Always now than it was back in 1996. Yes, he was able to do the screaming near the end, but apart from that his voice was a lot thinner back then. He now hits the chorus with full power, and I can live with him struggling to make it to the end when the rest of the performance is that good. Sadly, the “More hits than the Soprano's” comment had to be made afterwards, which once again is him going directly back to the same routine. When Wanted started we knew there would only be a 3 song encore but it was alright. Alana told me it was the best she'd ever seen. Me being the almighty European I have to disagree with that but I can understand why an Amurrecan would be impresssed by this when comparing it to the bog standard auto pilot stuff they usually get. So yeah, good show, and better than night 2.

Right now I am in the plane flying to Calgary. I just charged the laptop a bit at the airport and there's 49% of power left in the battery, I've got 1,5 hours to kill so I should make it with that. I just changed the wallpaper on this laptop to a pic of Kat I made with my cellphone (I hope I remember to change it back when I hand the laptop back. If I don't; Sorry about the pic Paul ;d) and no people of JT, it's not a pic of her tits. I'm on a plane, remember? I'm listening to the Travelling Wilbury's right now, and the first song on the album reminds me of Kat so yes, I still love her, even up in the air close to Canadaland. By the way, you Amurrecans split up your country in a weird way. It looks very much like Sim City, so I get where they got their inspiration from. It's a real shame Paul doesn't have that game installed on this laptop, but then again, he told me it's a WORK LAPTOP. Not that I have seen him work ever since I am here, all he does is drink beer and drive us to concerts. So unless Kathleen pays him to do that I find the excuse of not having any games installed on this laptop unacceptable. Anyway, up in the air your country looks very beautiful and it's a real shame there's so many idiots living in their who tend not to realize what they have. Seeing the world like this makes me realise I want to do a lot more travelling and see a lot more of America and the rest of the world and I'm glad Kat would love to join me on my trips. I really look forward to that, really can't wait to do the travelling with the person I love the most. And no Thierry, before you turn all gay on me AGAIN, that doesn't mean you. Now where was I? Oh right, I was going to review the third night.

Night 3

We were hoping for a different opener by now, and we got one, although it was obviously one of the shittiest songs of the show. Still, we got it out of the way which I guess was a good thing after all. This night pretty much had the setlist we were all hoping for with so many changes and most of them actually for the better. I don't have the setlists with me here but I think the first true rare song we got this night was Living In Sin/Chapel Of Love. Me and Kat were seated 4 rows from the catwalk on Richie's side but sadly we didn't get to hear anything of the song. Me and Kat honestly witnessed the most retarded crowd reaction ever. What happened was that Jon performed the song on the catwalk with the rest of the band staying on the main stage. However, this also meant that JON WAS VERY CLOSE TO US OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! And thus all 50 year old desperate housewifes started screaming as if they were slaughtered. They were pretty much reacting in the same was as 15 year old girls being close to the Jonas Brothers which was ****ing embarrassing. I honestly don't get it, the man performs a song right in front of you and all you can do is scream right through it? And not just when he started, noooo, during the whole song. So no, we didn't get to hear anything of it.

Hang on, I gotta take a look at my wallpaper again. Mmmm she's so pretty and cuuute.

Alright. Richie joined Jon and I realised they were about to do I'll Be There For You. I had tried to talk Kat into faking a proposal before the romantic song because we were very close to Jon so I might be able to get Jon to talk to me and I'd be able to dare him to put my on stage and have my moment with Kat, but she wasn't up for it. A real shame, but I wasn't giving up, so when he started talking and it got a bit more quiet around us I shouted “DIAMOND RING!!!” Jon hesitated, then started I'll Be There For You anyway, but I am 100% sure he heard the song and played it anyway. And with it not being on the set, I got my request anyway. Yes, I could've screamed for Hey God but it's not likely they can play that on the spot right away now when they're having their acoustic guitars in their hands, now is it? And Diamond Ring was nice anyway. I knew with Who Says being early in the set that the electric rendition of Sat. Night would be played and me with my psychic brain was right about this. By now I started to think that Jon was holding back all through the night. I could see him thinking “Shall I do an extended version of Sat. Night or just do the standard one?” He did the standard one, still good though, but it made me realize that had these 3 shows at Giants stadium been done at the end of entire tour he'd pull out a lot more rare stuff and extend everything a bit more than normal. Once again Keep The Faith had the same pyro (certainly not complaining here!) and once again I wondered if he was holding back for the shows at the O2 arena. The encore with Dry County again and Richie changed up a few things in the solo, the dual intro with Bobby went a bit smoother and once again the crowd seemed to like it instead of using it for a piss break. Wanted and Prayer followed, the standard stuff and by now I knew we weren't getting any extended encore at all which was not too bed considering it was still a very long show, but it once again just showed why Bruce is the master and Jon is the pupil. And before all of you start bitching about my Bruce Springsteen comparisons again; I'm not a Bruce Springsteen fan at all. It's just that Jon knows people will compare him to Bruce, and it's just the thought that if Bruce can do it, why can't Jon be arsed? Why does it have to be going like planned (apart from Diamond Ring, obviously). Still, I was happy I didn't get I Love This Town, but even though this setlist was better than night 2, the performance on night 2 was better.

And then came night 4. No one really knew what to expect of night 4. Would Jon see it as the final night of the 4 shows at Giants, or would it be a separate show with an average setlist? It turned out to be neither. Show number 4 at Giants was just shit.

Night 4

First there was Kid Rock. I'd never seen him but kinda knew it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I read people s reviews of his show at the O2 and I think in Dublin on the Lost Highway tour, saying that he was good. I think that if people appreciate Kid Rock, they've got no right to bitch about any bad stuff Bon Jovi releases. Kid Rock's set was full of covers, full of “Shout my name, say my name”, full of “I **** bitches **** your wife and your girlfriend too” and full of pretty much everything that is wrong about Bon Jovi since Bon Jovi turned into a poppier direction than pretty much every die hard wants them to. And what was even more pathetic was that he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hands. It was right during his performance that the wife was ashamed of her people. These were all the Amurrecans we've been making fun of the past few years on Jovitalk. Their was this woman in front of us singing along to “I want to **** your wife and girlfriend too”, yet there's no doubt that if anyone would ever say that to her she'd get very offended. Then again, she'd probably be too retarded to even realize what she was singing. Oh, and there was the awesome Kid Rock can do anything segment in the show. Really, you're not going to believe this, but Kid Rock can actually do a scratch solo while standing on the turntable with his ass faced to the crowd, while smoking a sigar and actualling drinking whiskey at the same time. He is that amazing. Obviously he had to show off that he can drum as well, and then he did play some awesome electric guitar. Really, this man can do anything. Because this is the man that when he was actually supposed to be playing the guitar properly while Bon Jovi let him play on Wanted, his guitar was not plugged in, and he was strumming the wrong chords and couldn't do the intro to Wanted at all. That's how talented this man is, yet obviously he needs to show off how he can do shite stuff on various instruments. If I'd be that “good” on the instruments I'd never show off my limited skills. Kid Rock obviously feels like he should be doing it, because Kid Rock is awesome And the weird thing was how he got to use all the screens, had the pyro, had flamethrowers and had pretty much everything. It just felt wrong, wrong, wrong. And this is the man Jon and Richie like to associate themselves with. This is their celebrity friend. It just makes me laugh and feel embarrassed by it. The Gallaghers hang out with Paul Weller, Joe Perry hangs out with Jimmy Page, and Bon Jovi hang out with Kid Rock. And no way this man deserved Pamela Anderson, but anyway. On to the main show now.

Supersonic 07-24-2010 05:47 PM

When the wife returned back from the washrooms she said that someone in the que thought Bon Jovi were never going to top Kid Rock. One woman said “How are they going to top that? With a Richie Sambora ballad or something?” which just shows how retarded this crowd was. Obie had told someone from Backstage that the first song was going to be incredibly awesome and that there were many, many surprises in the set. It'd be a show you'd never forget. OMG! Well, the opener was Raise Your Hands, but I was pretty much underwhelmed by it. As I was during the first 5 songs. I asked the wife what she thought of it and she said it was ok. I didn't say anything but thought it was a ****ing disappointing show so far. Richie made many, many mistakes, Jon looked like he had a major hangover and it never felt like there was a band playing on that stage but just 6 individuals who hadn't seen eachother since the O2 show and were too lazy to rehearse anything. Jon was out of breath all the time, missed several vocal lines, was out of sync with the rest of the band while Richie was sweating like a pig and looked like he had a hard time keeping up with everyone. What we obviously needed was KIIIHIIID, KIIIHIIID, ROCK ROCK, ROCK ROCK!!!!! to save the show. When he came out during Bad Medicine I was disappointed that this was the first highlight of the show. The sax player and the 2 backing vocalists made the medley a lot of fun, and this was just proper fun like you hope to get at a Bon Jovi show. As soon as Kid Rock went off Jon went right back into auto pilot mode though. Open All Night was a disaster, and for the first time ever I just sat down. I couldn't be arsed anymore and neither could the wife. There was really NOTHING about this show that made me want to be there anymore. Jon sounded wank, didn't sound motivated at all and the acoustic set was just more of the same. Have A Nice Day spiced things up a bit but apparantly Richie's **** up was the final straw for him and actually the entire band. Even Tico's face said “What the **** is this now, I can't keep up with this any longer!” Jon gave him the stink eye and David looked incredibly confused, not realizing what actually happened. After Richie'd made the mistake he looked incredibly guilty and Jon pretty much gave him the stink eye for the rest of the show. This was a singer who'd been struggling to keep up with the show just as much as Richie did, but apparantly Jon thinks he's mr. perfect and needs to get upset about someone else, yet he was just as flawed. It's just that Richie's mistake was a lot more obvious, and it was then when I realized how pathetic Jon can be. And there's no way that would I be playing in a band I'd accept that behaviour from a lead singer or anyone else. If my boss gives me shit at work like that I tell him right in his face. And if a lead singer would give me shit in front of 50.000 people I'd make it clear to him right away. It became very apparent how much they're all up to Jon's arse. First we had David complaining about the situation in the documentary, but it was there that I realized what a pathetic little ****er Jon actually is. He surrounds himself with all these yes people around him just so he can boss around, yet he's far from perfect himself and as insecure as anyone can be. I know, when Jon is on fire he's a good lead singer, but this is what his personality is like, it's clear in everything he does. The world is spinning because of Jon Bon, yet it's a very small world he lives in because what he's ended up with aren't the people that tell him like it is, but the people that tell him like he would like to hear it is. Obviously it didn't stop here. Nope, Jon had to point at Richie once again while singing “make no mistake” during It's My Life, and during the break in Work he grabbed Richie's shoulder and looked him straight in the eye with that “I'm not happy with you right now look” Richie knew and I couldn't understand why a grown man would let a silly ****er like Jon walk all over him. Situations like these make it clear why Jon doesn't want a tell all book to be released. He'd come across as the biggest ****er on the planet and he'd make Axl Rose look like a nice person. And it makes sense though, if you're that careful with hiding what goes on behind the curtain you obviously have got something to hide. Still, it didn't end here though. Who Says came on, and Jon refused to look Richie in the eye when they were sharing the mic. Richie and the rest of the band were playing on auto pilot and David kept looking at Jon, and sort of looked like “I hope I'm not the one next here!”

Encore. The encore was ****ing shite. The show had been shite, Jon had been ignoring every banner so far (Don't think a bigger banner for Lie To Me would've been possible), and the encore was even worse. I told Kat that if after Wanted Prayer would be next I'd like to leave. And I've never walked out of a Bon Jovi show before. We did get the amazing I Love This Town though. Because yeah, Jon loves Rutherford and New Jersey so much. SO MUCH! Which is why he lives in New York nowadays, because he loves it so much. It's fake. Jon's a phoney, and there's no way I Love This Town was played because he loved this town, but it was played because Jon realized he could get an easy cheers from the crowd with a song like that. But it wasn't over after I Love This Town. No! We got Glad All Over, another killer song die hards and average joes love to hear. And then disaster hit him, or like we said after the show “my dad took care of business” because I am Jesus and my dad didn't accept behaviour like this from Jon anymore. Jon was in pain, and pretty much every die hard after the show I talked to thought that if someone deserved to be in pain after the show it was him. And I know it's wrong to think like that, but if you give your biggest fans 3 rare songs over 90 songs played, treat them like shit, ignore their requests and signs and go on auto pilot on the last show, you deserve some sort of punishment. And if you'd seen this show you'd think just the same. I know Jon said on Facebook that he was about to go off in an endless encore, but it's bullshit. After Glad All Over Prayer was supposed to be played, there's no way he wanted to do an endless encore, it's just him bragging like usual, because even the press release had to say when disaster struck him (at the 2 hour 40 mark blablabla Jon played such a long show blablabla).

Me and Kat decided that when Prayer started, we left. We went back to the car, and I just wanted to go to bed instead of doing another jamsession after the show. I wasn't into that at all anymore. About 1 hour later me and Kat were back in bed, and that was pretty much the only good thing about this day. We spend it with eachother, and spend it with friends. But I'd much rather have been in the city or just at home watching TV than to go to this show. This show proved that a long show doesn't mean a good show. It also meant that being in Giants doesn't give you a good show either. It meant that if Jon feels like it, he'll just don't care at all anymore, no matter where he plays.

Rating on the Supersonic’s all mattering Bon Jovi review index:
***** The ****ing bollocks!!!
**** Top show.
*** Yeah, well that was alright...
** Piss poor performance. Nnngg!!!
* Jon you cunt I hope you go bald within 1 day!

So, are the shows at Giants stadium the best shows of the tour? No. Not at all. American crowds are shit and although the first 3 shows were good, they never, ever beat a European show at all. Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Manchester, Dublin, Hamburg, Stuttgart all get much better shows, and would Kathleen, Paul and obviously Kat not be living near New Jersey there's no way I'd ever go back to see a show at Giants stadium. The trip to New Jersey and New York was fun, but it was fun because of the jam sessions, Kev and Carli holding up their requests written on the plates they were eating from, meeting many people from the other side of the world, seeing New Jersey, seeing what America is like, seeing New York. And Bon Jovi? Yeah, they were a nice bonus. So here I am, after the Canadian tour (which might get a separate review though Erik pretty much covered most of the trip), finishing my review for the Giants shows while being on the plane that takes me back to New Jersey. Back to Paul and Kathleen, who's hospitality is just insane. They made the trip even more awesome, but the best part of this trip was Kat, Kathleen's daughter, and I'm going back to her now. Right on from the moment I met her I knew: She will be my wife. Because I am in love like I've never been in love before. Everything that ever happened to me the past few years, all the shit, all the good stuff, it all made sense once I met her. This is the person to who I belong to. So yes, she will be my wife. Next year in Rome, during the European tour it'll probably happen. And everyone I met on this trip is welcome to come to the wedding. See you there?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Best review of Kat I've ever read - I mean Bon Jovi.

That thing about Jon putting his arm on Richie's shoulder and telling him he's about to kill him sounds interesting though :/ And kind of scary actually.

Always enjoy reading your reviews Seb. I'd say I'd rank them about the same, certainly nights 3 and 4 anyway.

Finally a show gets the "I hope you go bald" rating :)

Nice review brought back alot of good memories :D I said to Kev after the first amazing show we saw at the o2 on the 19th June, I was willing for a setlist like that at Giants, had we got it in that stadium itwould have easily been my best Bon Jovi show (and we would have all stayed up even later haha)

Agree about the speeches, they were just a pisstake after a while. The WE/ME shit just turned nto a big joke, the first time I heard it I thought, fair enough. The 3rd (and 4th and 5th at the 02) it was so false and insincere.

Yeah I'll come to the wedding, KAts alreay to asked me to be Maid of honour (i'm assuming thats like the no 1 bridesmaid) maybe you should just do it out of the back of your tourbus next summer

I've decided not to talk about Giants Night 4 ever again. Like the garbage that was Sarnia, it's better that I pretend it didn't happen.

Aside from the concert, the trip to Jersey was fantastic. If Paul and Kathleen would let me stay again, I might consider giving the band another chance at a Giants show.
