It's surprising that you said that. I thought for those who love their 80s anthems the best, TILTIL is more up your alley.

thenickeljovifan 09-16-2010 04:29 PM

I wouldn't lump "What Do You Got" into this list (because its quite different) but did anyone find this lyric funny -

"How many songs we gotta sing about it."

In relation to all the "It's My Life" clones done by the band.

You mean, the ENTIRE 30 seconds you've heard, or just a small part?

Matrix15 09-17-2010 03:36 AM

Heres my 10 second theory:
  • Crossroad had one upbeat mid-tempo song (Sat Night) and one big ballad (Always).
  • GH2 might work on the same theory - WDYG being the upbeat mid tempo song and No Apologies is potentially the ballad.
  • If that presumption is true, Bon Jovi's record of ballads in the last 10 years in patchy, So we'll probably get an LH style Ballad like MAM or something reminiscent of AALY/TYFLM (If they feel like going a bit more dramatic).
  • Judging by the country stylings of the other GH songs, I'd be on the look out for a ballad that sounds like a LH demo.
  • If that assumption is correct, it may not be a bad thing, LH had some of the best ballads in a few years.

So my ultimate point, No Apologies might not suck balls, MAM was sort of successful as a single, something in that vein might have similar success again.

It's a long shot I know but it kinda makes sense, I can see Jovi going back to LH resembling stuff after the percieved "failure" of the circle.

I hope it's not MAM part 2! That is their most awful ballad and first single ever! I'd take All About Lovin You over that crap.

Adam D 09-17-2010 06:16 AM

I think What Do You Got? is the ballad. Call me crazy...

thenickeljovifan 09-17-2010 06:45 PM

I for one think TYFLM is one of the best Jovi ballads.

THANK YOU!!!!! That song is very under appreciated, maybe because there had been so many hit Jovi ballads at that point, but I've always loved it and thought the sentiment came across as being really geniune, even if it was inspired by a movie. Jon's only achieved this in his ballads only twice since imo (open all night and Make a Memory)

i quite like this live too :)

Irishshin 09-18-2010 12:06 AM

I haven't read this whole thread so apologies if this has been asked.

But the versions of the songs that are on the bands facebook page, are they the versions that are gonna be on the album?
Cos Blood on Blood is live on there.

Blood On Blood is live on there, because those are directly from YouTube and if you don't know, Blood On Blood's music video is a live performance of the song.

Was kinda thinking that but hoping it maybe live on the album :D

RagDoll86 09-18-2010 12:23 AM

It sounds better live. And to be honest, I like the song way better now than when I first heard it.

I think it's a great song too!

Their ballads start sucking AFTER this one, NOT STARTING WITH this one.

hackster73 09-18-2010 03:11 PM

So this is the complete cross section of songs on the 2 disc greatest hits (JAPAN version has all these tracks)

Runaway

In & out of love
Tokyo road

Livin' on a prayer
You give love a bad name
Wanted dead or alive

Lay you hands on me
Bad medicine
Born to be my baby
Blood on blood
I'll be there for you

Blaze of glory

Keep the faith
I'll sleep when i'm dead
In these arms
Bed of roses

Someday i'll be saturday night
Always

This ain't a love song
These days

It's my life

Have a nice day
Who says you can't go home

Lost highway
Make a memory

We weren't born to follow
When we were beautiful

WHAT DO YOU GOT?
NO APOLOGIES
THIS IS LOVE, THIS IS LIFE
THE MORE THINGS CHANGE

I never expected a huge amount from These Days, in fairness they have probably selected the best 2 songs for this album. I think the 80's & 90's are well represented accross the 2 discs. I am suprised that these 00's tracks never made it though:

Say it isn't so
Everyday
Misunderstood

That would have given 2 tracks from each 00 album and there is room for these tracks so no real excuse?

So they include two Fahrenheit songs but none from Bounce? This band is starting to get humourous.

Odd isn't it?

Is this really the best material the band have done since These Days??

It's my life

Have a nice day
Who says you can't go home

Lost highway
Make a memory

We weren't born to follow
When we were beautiful

Nothing else worth adding?? It just shows how disposable and forgotten most of the post 2000 stuff is.

What it shows is they just had so many hits in the 80's they HAD to include on a GH, and there's only so much room on a disc.

Considering there are only 12 songs on disc 2, they could easily have put Everyday, Misunderstood and Superman Tonight on there. Say It Isn't So tanked in the US big time. To be fair, These Days was never even released as a single in the US, so shouldn't be there either.

I don't agree. The lyrics are cheesy and it doesn't get close to the likes of I'll Be There For You, Always, Bed Of Roses, This Ain't A Love Song etc.

Granted, it is better than All About Lovin' You, that is a horrible ballad.

I would have put Everyday and Misunderstood on it, even if only on disc 2. Why ignore the album? Makes no sense at all.

One other point, how on gods earth did Keep The Faith not make disc 1??

Agree, After I buy it I'm gonna rearrange the order a bit and add some of the others that have been left off that have room for.....

"Say It Isn't So" was also not released officially as a single in the U.S. I am amazed nobody is talking about missing out TYFLM, which was a hit in the U.S.

How awesome would it be if they included LTOR on the GH?

It's probably just a mistake. I see all sorts of crazy prices on Amazon when something is first listed. It's usually sorted out fairly quickly.

yes it's maybe amistake but still for example the japanese GH is way way more expensive than the usa double disk it's not 'possible' it's the same product with such an insane price gap

edited to say the japanese price is not on amazon but CD japan

Only radio play so far I think Sept 21 or somewhere around that is release date of the single, not sure if they just releasing it only digitally or releasing it as a single at a store like they did for WWBTF at FYE's store in US

Simon 09-22-2010 02:15 PM

The arrangement of the tracks on the two discs is just bizarre... all of the KFT stuff on disc 2, while all of New Jersey is on disc 1? And disc 2 has just 12 songs??? But it'll make many people biy the Ultimate Edition, so that could be the idea behind it. Why not make it a 2-disc-only chronological collection of the whole carreer with every album represented?

Where are

- Something For The Pain (!!!)
- Say It Isn't So / Thank You For Loving Me
- Everyday (!!!) / Misunderstood

To include "Blood On Blood" is a nice move, and WWWB too, but I miss "Superman Tonight". And way too many slow songs on disc 2!!!

Hell, all of us here would have put together a better collection. Still, it could be worse.

And I really like the cover. Actually I was hoping it would have the h&d logo on it, not necessarily in black and gold, but it looks classic and will stand out in the shelves. Many GH have had minimalistic covers, see Queen, G'n'R, Stones for example.

TwinFan 09-23-2010 04:37 AM

I have a confession to make. I didn't like WDYG at first, but I gave it another chance today, and after hearing it live, I like it. It's not a song that you will like right away, like I did last year with WWBTF, but it's a grower.

Yeah. I have to agree with this.

Gotta say going from 43 to 28 on the hot ac charts is a very nice jump. I really can't believe how well this song is doing.

of course it was before ..but then they can decide the chart begins until #30 (billboard makes it begin with #30 ).... for me I had the charts effective until #50
