Queen frontman Freddie Mercury has been named the ‘Greatest Rock Legend of All Time’. The flamboyant star, who died in 1991, landed the top spot in the poll, carried out by Internet market research website OnePoll.com. Mercury, who beat Elvis Presley to claim the title, sold 300 million records after forming Queen in 1970. He was renowned for his charismatic stage presence during his 21 years with the band. David Bowie, 63, was third in the poll. Next up was Bon Jovi frontman Jon Bon Jovi, 48, followed by Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Slash, 45, and Bono, 50. “Freddie Mercury had it all the voice, the image, the stage presence, everything,” the Daily Star quoted OnePoll.com spokesman as saying.FreddieMercury “He was idolised around the world by millions of fans and his legend will live on forever. “He combined his ear for music with an ability to deliver to stadium audiences and millions were devastated when HIV finally killed him in 1991,” he added. |
The hipsters won't like this.

heres one of my interesting questions, so take note;
'do you think bon jovi will be regarded higher when they decide to call it a day, or even die?' im pretty sure they will because Queen was a decent band, but before freddies death they still had much more in them to create another 3-4 albums. therefore they could have been in bon jovis position now as a band who has had their ups and downs. its an awful question to think about but its worth considering, and im pretty sure it will piss alot of us off if it is the case. We are Die Hards and both us and bon jovi dont like living off 'legacies' or past hits, we always strive for better or new directions. ps im drunk :) |
^ I think the only reason why Kurt Cobain is so damn huge is because he's dead. I cant see him being as popular as he is right now if he was still alive. He'd probably be a has-been.

I appreciated Queens music much more after Freddies death. We all know that dying is the best career move ever, especially when people believe that you have much more talent to give. Elvis has made more money dead than he did while he alive. |
Could have at least been number one...or two. Freddie deserves his number one spot. :)

Those polls are made by the followers who loves online polls
Freddy Mercury was an absolute outstanding frontman The way he died and how he handled the end of his life made the outstanding front man a legend ...Freddy Mercury is generally respected by all even those who were not exactly found of the band ... He had the most incredible voice that NO ONE can deny it This said that polls doesn't represent at all what all the music or rock amateur think world wide sorry to say that but Jon would never comes at rank 4 if it was a fair poll it's just another poll the Bon Jovi fans have found along with Bowie fans (and I love Bowie but come on number 3 ??) |
Don't care about Queen and there's no way Jon or Slash are in the top 10. Such a stupid, populist list.
Oh, and Kurt Cobain was awesome. Burned out rather than faded away. Sad but he left behind a great legacy; that version of Where Did You Sleep Last Night on Unplugged is one of the best things ever. |

In the US, Queen was never a super-group. I should say, at least that I can recall. I started going to concerts in 1987, and I don't ever remember a big deal being made about them, until Freddie Mercury died. I had heard of Queen, and a handful of their songs, but that's about all. |
