Official October 1, 2010 - Estadio Nacional, Santiago thread
Predicitions, previews, reviews, and rants all go here. Bon Jovi have not played in Chile since 1992.
I predict a very similar set to the Mexico and Costa Rica setlist. My comments follow. Jolo. |
This will be my second BJ show. My first concert was in Madrid 2010 (Rock In Rio). I was travelling around Europe, and, with the plane tickets and even the schedule already done in January, the Madrid concer appears even as a miracle on my route.
The concert was great, the crow was incredible, even after had waiting for hours (Bon Jovi started playing at 12:30 AM). And the setlist was short and standard but good in some terms. Four TC songs, one from LH, two from HAND, and of course, the classics. No 'Always', besides the crowd and those innadecuate commentators talking bewteen songs on the TVE transmission was waiting for it. Just say that my expectations for this fisrt Chilean concert in years are very low, based on Mexico and Costa Rica setlists and reviews. And, for me, it's not really for the setlist, because honestly I know and I like every single song that it will be played. But Bon Jovi hasn't received heavy airplay or promotion since Crush! so the crowd will never be at a high point, except those really classics before 2001. And, like Jon said, it's not because 'economical situation for the region'. Hey Jon! We are NOT a third world anymore. Is absolutely unnaceptable that he says that, and is dissapoiting that they will not put a full show, with the full stage. A lot of band and artists have been delivered in Chile a full concert experience in the last years: Madonna, U2, even KISS last year! Or another more simple bands in terms of production that had been playing gigs more than once, like Oasis (2006 and 2009, Liam Gallagher took and showed a Chilean Flag in front of Stage, and that's like 'WTF' coming from him!). Byran Adams (2007, he was so impressed by the audience that he programmed a new concert in 2008, sold out), Scorpions some weeks ago, Aerosmith last May, the list is eternal... Just ask Eddie Vedeer (Pearl Jam) what he thinks about Chile. The reason that no album have been promoted in Chile (with the minimal exception of 'Have A Nice Day', only that song, not even WSYCGH) is only because BJ had abandonned the region too many yers. Not because we don't know English (a myth) or because don't buy records. Just because he's believe the stupid myth that we're still listening their music on cassettes. Hey Jon! If the information is useful to you, we have even iTunes Store here, and the linewalk for buying the iPhone 4 last friday (launch day) was for block around the stores, like in NYC; this country has more Twitter and Facebook accounts in relation to the total popullation number that any other country. We're not communicating by Morse Code. Well, like I said before, I'll try to enjoy the show as much as possible, even knowing that the chances to hear songs like 'In these arms', 'Saturday Night', or even 'These days' (songs that the audience would go crazy) instead of songs like 'Whole lot of leavin'', 'WGGO', or EVEN 'WWBTF' are very low. Songs that I really like, but NOBODY in the entire 55,000 people stadium except by me, my friends and the BJ fanbase in Chile (is big, don't worry) will know. I don't know what are JBJ doing playing those setlists. He could have the entire audience happy and absolutely at high point, but I think that he is trying to promote their last records by himself. And it will not work. Is a very risky path. It's too late for that. So, I really hope that Jon and the band will be on full energy, playing those songs like they've never played before, and the audience (famous for being one of the most incredible audiences in the world) get the show at a high point. Just ask any other band: Faith No More is playing their LAST show in Santiago on November (and possibly filming a DVD), Iron Maiden has come EVERY SINGLE YEAR, U2 is programming two shows in March 2011, Incubus, Pixies, Raise Against The Machine, Linkin Park, Rush, Europe, Paul McCartney and many others are playing from October to December here, and they're some bands or artists that had come more than once in the last 5 or 4 years. Or I really hope that Mr. O'Brien, or any other crew member are reading this: WE WANT THE REAL THING, period. I hope that, at the end of this thread I can tell a different story. But the chances are very low. And sorry for my English (we know English haha, but I still have some problems with grammar). Jolo. |
I really really really hope you get a great show. It is not impossible, they may play These Days there or in any of the remaining SA shows.

You should get a 24 song set minimum every show for the price the tickets are. They have bags of material to play and it is just piss poor that they put more effort into certain shows. I cannot understand why they skip stuff from 'These Days' when that album was far more popular than the recent stuff. |
You guys just said everything !!
Makes no sense a setlist with Whole Lot, Lost Highway and Who Says instead of Saturday Night, In These Arms or These Days. NO SENSE ! |
One gripe ive had with these recent gig threads, the actual setlist is meant to be added to the first post. Makes it so much easier to just find the setlist, if not you have to trawl through pages of posts. :)

Yeah, put the setlist in the first message:)

Well.
Tonight is the night. That most of us have waiting for 10 years (since we listened to It's My Life on the radio) or even more. I hope that the band, the setlist, the weather and the crowd to be at the expectation's level. For those that have interest, my Twitter is www.twitter.com/joloriquelme (only request permission and I'll accept). I'll try to send photos or even videos before and during the show, but I can't promise it, because I'll try to enjoy the show as much as possible. At the end, I will inform you that If a 'rare for us' song were played. Cheers. |
