Best IML clone
Simple poll.
It's no stranger to us that Bon Jovi have been trying to capitalize on the success that It's My Life had. (Somebody should mention to Jon that that was 10 years ago, BTW.) It gets kinda predictable and annoying to some. I personally like these songs, but I don't think that they need to be the lead single for all these albums. My question for you is which is your favorite and why? Mine would have to be HAND, as it's just a big rocker, with a good riff. The chorus is big, and the solo is great. I also like its original version from the 2004 half-release thing with the different lyrics. It sounds good live, and I have a crush on Richie's double neck Telecaster that he uses on that song. :p EDIT: I don't know it Bounce or TILTIL really fit here, but I put them there. Those 2 really come down to personal opinion. |
HAND or TILTIL.

HAND closely followed by IML. Although I pretty much like all the songs in the poll.
|
HAND is not an IML clone for me. These two songs have very different melodies and instrumental parts. Other songs are IML clones and I don't like any of them, so off the list my only liked song is HAND.

I think No Apologies and Alive can be considered as well, same lyrics at least.

I'm kinda surprised at the votes TILTIL is getting. It's a good song, and probably the best of the new ones. But it has no riff whatsoever. Or nothing even close to one. The verses seem slow to me, there's too much dead space between lines. The thing that saves the song is the chorus and the solo. I think some are still in the honeymoon phase a bit. |
It's My Life destroy all the other mediocre songs.

This Is Love This Is Life for me :)

I put "other", and I specify: "Complicated" is the most related IML clone, at least musically. Talkbox and keyboard are more obvious than on "Bounce", which has the same thing going on. Just lyrically it's another direction, but I think it still classifies. And as the song is a secret favourite of mine, I go for "Complicated". :-)

TILTIL, I don't know... but the chord pattern is very similar, so, yeah maybe. |

And the musial pattern is all the same. Two times riff, break: First line vocals, riff, second line vocals, riff, and then two lines of bridge played straight through leading into the chorus. That's a pattern that was new with IML and has been used various times ever since, usually on the "live my life"-theme songs, being more obvious in other songs though, like "Bounce" and "Complicated" (both of which have the talkbox and the keyboard thing), and stuff like "We Got It Going On", which also has the same structure, just without the keyboard and a different riff. And the chord pattern in the chorus of IML is partly identical with HAND, just in another key. You can sing the chorus of IML along to HAND: "It's my (life) ooohh if there's one thing I hang onto". So that all makes it an IML clone for me. Still, they managed to give the song a different feeling/attitude. But to me it's an attempt to clearly re-write IML, just as "Bounce" was. "Everyday" on the other hand is musically quite different. Just the lyrics make it an IML clone. |
