New Foo Fighters stuff

Anyone heard the tracks off the new album Wasting Light?

I'm happy with it. The sound is a return to their roots, with a rawness that disappeared on the last few albums.

White Limo (excellent video with Lemmy)
Rope - New single

SexxAtraxxion 02-23-2011 04:56 PM

A white limo, nazi boots.. mmmm

Cool song anyway.

Best regards,
the Sexx

Jovimimi 02-23-2011 05:14 PM

excellent !!! :D

Jim Bon Jovi 02-24-2011 01:06 AM

That out of time syncopated intro has got to be one of the most nerve gratingly horrible pieces of music I've ever heard a proper band put on record. I wonder why they even bothered putting it in since it disappears as soon as the song starts proper...

Not a bad tune but it sounds it sounds a bit like it's been written in autopilot.

UKjovi 02-24-2011 09:45 AM

I think it sounds great. ^ as for autopilot? I doubt it have you not heard how they wrote and produced this album? They did it all in Dave's garage. Said they wanted to get back to a more raw sound which I think they have achieved. Love the video with Lemmy.

I'm not familiar with Foo Fighters but saying they recorded it in Dave's garage is not saying much considering how his garage is probably the size of my and your house combined. :p

And here Dave shows you his garages: :)

In the last couple of weeks the Foo Fighters played a lot of smaller clubs (20 $ for a ticket!) and presented their new album in its entirely. I'm no FF diehard-fan but I really like them and dig the direction they have taken. Probably my favourite track of the new ones:
These Days (maybe it has something to do with the songtitle... ;)):

steel_horse75 02-24-2011 06:17 PM

I dont mind Foo Fighters but like Grohls other band, Nirvana, think they are very over rated.
The 2nd album (colour and shape) is the best and after that I lost interest.

ticos_stick 02-24-2011 07:21 PM

FRESH POTS!!!!

Did an interview with them the other day, so it was because of that.

Listening now.
V good. Not really a Foos fan but I like this

andro10 04-04-2011 04:25 PM

Not the biggest fan of FF but this album rocks!

I'll see them live in Milano this year!

ticos_stick 04-04-2011 07:25 PM

Listened a few times now.

I hope it's a grower because apart from the first five tracks I'm getting that Foo Filler impression from the rest of the album.

UKjovi 04-05-2011 09:22 AM

Ive listened to it a couple of times and I love it, what Rock should sound like!

Bleeding Purist 04-09-2011 10:30 AM

I can't say I've stayed riveted to the Foo Fighters. I was mostly aware of them without really listening other than glancing at their videos.

Dave had my attention early on. His drumming style in Nirvana grabbed me, but I just didn't grab ahold. It wasn't actually until I caught the Best of You video on Palladia about 2 years ago that my curiosity went up. Even though it was just a video shoot, the passion Dave put into the performance was impressive. Then a good amount of exposure through Rock Band on Xbox 360 both to Nirvana and the Foos followed. I started looking up live performances and checked out Wembley on Blu-ray. Frankly, it's just damn tragic I'm on the late show. Better late than never though.

I can't say they are over-rated. There is too much dedication to the the craft. They get up there and work their asses off. If you really watch Dave bouncing up and down playing that guitar, you have late 80's Jon Bon Jovi meets late 80's James Hetfield. He's a rock and roll fan who loves playing who made it big and bigger and knows how blessed he is and is thankful for every bit of it.

I just watched and heard the video for Rope for the first time tonight (creative with a very early MTV video look to it. Love the concept) and I'm listening to the album right now at the link already given (like the way they did this with all of the comments along the wave-form of each song.) I'm pretty pumped since this is the first time I'll be on board for a new release. I'm only on Dear Rosemary, but I'm loving it (and by the time I finished my post edits...ironically... These Days... still hooked.) Looking forward to tomorrow on SNL.

UKjovi 04-09-2011 11:34 AM

Oh I agree, Dave is a true fan of music and often gets involved with other bands because of this. The energy he finds is amazing. Cannot wait to get the album in my hands. For me at the moment Limo is the best song, love the video as well.

JerseyboyUK 04-09-2011 11:47 AM

I have always wanted to like them but never really have. I own all their albums and find myself only really liking the singles, there's ALOT of filler on their records. Fact.

But Wasting Light is awesome, they've really taken it up a gear. Very impressive.

I believe that is how you feel, but it is no "Fact."

Matthes 04-10-2011 01:35 AM

The new album is great. The first six songs are the best album start I've heard in a long time.
"Bridge Burning" and "White limo" knock everything down and "Dear Rosemary" has such a fantastic chorus and melody.
The second half is weaker than the first but it's still a good level. Especially "Miss the misery" is a very good track in my opinion.

The production of the record sounds stunning and this is exactly what a rock record should sound like.

ticos_stick 04-10-2011 07:06 AM

It's easily their best album since There's Nothing Left To Lose. The Foos have been guilty of stuffing recent albums with filler. After a good ten listens the same can't be said about Wasting Light. A few of the latter tracks take a few listens to soak in though.

The production is spot on, nicely warm and heavy. Some of the playing on the album is superb too, Chris seems to have been let off the leash and Taylor, well he's always been a tour de force.

I'd give it a solid 8/10

Can't wait to hear some of the stuff live.

Crushgen24/88 04-10-2011 10:16 AM

I really like the new record, holds up pretty well with their best work IMO.
Then again, I'm in the minority in thinking that Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace was their best album, so who knows.

ticos_stick 04-15-2011 11:41 PM

Has anyone else got Medium Rare, the new Foo Fighter's covers album?

It's basically all the best covers they've done put into an album, sounds good. Love the cover.

Crushgen24/88 04-19-2011 10:58 PM

The cover is awesome. I might pick it up, but I have all the covers already, so I'm debating.

This (Medium Rare) would be perfect for me since I'm playing catch up. I guess it's only on Vinyl commercially. I don't even know where I'd pick it up and my record player is out of commision.

I'm so addicted it's ridiculous.

Foo Fighters garage shows, new competition launched. GARAGE TOUR (8 shows)

Foo Fighters are giving fans the chance to win a live show in their garage.

Launched last week, Foo Fighters are offering fans the chance to win an exclusive live show in their garage. The band are planning to play seven shows on the tour, with each date having an audience of just 50 people.

There is a catch, though. Fans must live in or near New York, Denver, Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, Minneapolis or Toronto to take part.

Entry is relatively simple. Fans need to write twenty five words on why they should host a show by Foo Fighters and submit their entry with a photograph of the garage, while one overall winner will grab a signed copy of new album 'Wasting Light'.

The blurb: "Enter now and you could win a private performance by Foo Fighters - in YOUR garage. If that's not enough - you also get to invite 50 of your closest friends and totally show off."

The Letterman performance was brilliant, The Beatles vibe worked very well indeed.
