Munich

Hi!
I need to know which will be the best location to stay in Munich...
I mean a hotel near the Olympia Stadium.
Are the hotels near the Hauptbahnhof central station a good choice?
And do most of the German people who live in Munich speak English?
Well, if the Hauptbahnhof station is a good choice who could I arrive at the stadium from that station?
From the airport I think I can take an airline bus or the S8 train.
Does the S8 train arrives straight to the Hauptbahnhof station or should I take another train to arrive there from the airport? Is it the same line?
Thanks

Most Germans can speak English. We got a taxi from the airport straight to the stadium for about 50euros (this was in 2006)

Thank you but I would like to use other transports there.
Maybe the people who live over there can give me the answers of what I asked for.

English will do fine. Take a look at the map. Take U3 (orange line) until "Olympiazentrum" - it's a 10-15 minutes walk from there to the stadium.

If I was you, I'd dtay somewhere near Munich Central Station. That way you can easily do some sightseeing as well and you can always catch subway trains to the Olympic Statdium.
Concerning public transport from the airport to the city centre, it'll take about 45 mins.

But from the Hauptbahnhof central station to the stadium, should I take first the green line (U1) and get off at Olympia Einkaufs-zentrum and then take the orange line ( U3) and get off at Olympia zentrum or only the U3 line?

Is the Munich central station the one I was talking about? The one called Hauptbahnhof central station?
Well, from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof central station I think that I can take the S1, blue line or S8 yellow line.
What I need to know is if by using both lines, both trains go straight to the Hauptbahnhof station or if I should get off and take another train to arrive at the station. I was looking at the map and I can't understand the purpose of
the pink line, S27 I don't know if it's between then ot not, I think it's a regional train.
Thank you.

First things first: The Germany expression for Central Station is Hauptbahnhof. It is situated in the very middle of the map and it's got a little train symbol in it.

Your route from the airport to the Olympic Statdium is pretty straightforward. You've basically got two options.

Option A:
Straight from the aiport to the stadium
If that's the case, take S1 from the airport to Moosach station, then change to Line U3 and get off at Olympiazentrum station. It'll be a ten minute walk from there and there are signs everywhere so you won't possibly miss the stadium.

Option B:
Airport to stadium via Central Station
In case you want to deposit some luggage in the lockers at the Central Station or bring stuff to your hotel, or check out the city center. Take S8 to Munic Central Station, then change to Line U2. Change again at Scheidplatz to Line U3. Get off at Olympiazentrum, 10 minute walk, signs everywhere.

Forget about S27 though, it is nowhere near the airport or the Olympic Stadium.

I hope I was able help you out. Feel free to ask again if you have any problems. We should do a meet up I think, but I'm sure there will be an extra topic for it.

I'm also going to Munich this summer for the BJ show (with my 8 year old son). We'll be staying at the Golden Leaf Park Hotel im Lehel, a bit east of the Hauptbanhof. As far as I've seen on maps, getting around Munich is pretty straightforward by using the subway/trains.

Don't worry to much, just go and have fun! :)

That would do, but I'd prefer to take an S line (= tram, although it's still under ground in the centre) from the central station eastward to Marienplatz (only two stations, so it's equal which one you take as you can see on the map) and then take U3 from there to Olympiazentrum - not to be mixed up with Olympiaeinkaufszentrum (where U1 and U3 meet).
The reason is that between Marienplatz and Karlsplatz (Stachus), that's the station right next to the central station, is a nice shopping street.

Yep, it is. It might be though, that there are not too many trains running anymore when getting back from the stadium. So, I would take U3 to Marienplatz as well, because from there all the centre is doable afoot.

EDIT - That's a no-no, Crash.
