Gateshead International Stadium

Could any of you out there shed some light as to why Bon Jovi don't play Gateshead anymore? The last time they did was in 2000 and Jon said he promised it wouldn't be another 5 years before they returned. Well it's almost 11 and counting.

Infact why don't they come up to the North East in general? I mean we have St James Park in Newcastle and as much as it pains me to admit there's also the Stadium of Shite in Sunderland. It strikes me as odd as to why the North East is left off the map when it comes to Jovi tours.

Because you touch yourself at night.

Most big gigs in the North are covered by Manchester at the cricket ground.

Main reasons probably being that it's easier logistically to do it there and the venue probably cuts some form of deal with promoters to entice them there.

That, and the Manchester shows are usually awesome for whatever reason.

I think that was more in the way of it won't be 5 years til we're on tour again, not until we're in Gateshead!

At the last Coventry show he remarked on the great crowd were and said "And that's why I'll always come back to Coventry"

He probably had the name of the town flashed up on the teleprompter at the same point every night

Glasgow/Manchester cover the North I guess. Would be great to see Jovi so close to home but sadly it doesn't happen. I heard St. James' isn't really suited to concerts, though.

If they played SoS in s*nderland, I'd probably go begrudgingly like I did for Oasis. At the same time, though, everyone from around here would go because they're playing so close. I hate that.

Same reason I went to KoL on Friday mate, it was begrudgingly. That and it was free ticket. The stewards couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery though and lasses were pissing on the floor. Only in S*nderland eh.....

Fair enough, really. I wouldn't refuse to go if Jovi were playing as they're my favourite band and I'll take any opportunity I can to see them, but it certainly wouldn't have a 'wow' factor. The opposite in fact.

Last sentence is very true!

Must admit, I'd love to see them back at Gateshead Stadium. It shouldn’t be a good venue on paper, but it always translates well to a rock concert...

I've seen them twice there now (1995 and 2000) both were great gigs. 1995 was especially good, what with Ugly Kid Joe and Van Halen in support - those really were the days!

Anyways, I simply don't understand why more bands don't use St. James' park, saw Bryan Adams there a few years ago, and I thought the set-up worked well IMO??

Also, I can only re-iterate what others have said regarding the stadium of shite - horrendous place. Reluctantly went to see Oasis, and it was the absolute pits... just, just horrendous!
