1. I think Richie is taking more of a Commercial approach to this album. He hired some heave hitters to help him out with it. I'd expect Richie to be more involved with writing and producing an album on his own if he was going more artistic.

2. If it sounds like a Bon Jovi album, that's ok. I happen to like Bon Jovi. Not everyone is looking for "The Artistic" album. I loved Stranger and though Undiscovered was just OK. If he was making Undiscovered 2, I'd be pissed. BTY, I hate to point out the obvious here but Richie does happen to contribute to the Bon Jovi sound so if a rock album done by Richie sounds a little bit like Bon Jovi during certain parts, it should sorta be expected. That sound is in his artistic blood.

3. I happen to like all these bands people are comparing it to. If Richie wants to make a trendy album and it's got a 30 Seconds to Mars sound, I see that as a good thing….. I don't see it as a lack of originality. I see that as keeping up with the times. There is a fine line with that and Richie's been around long enough and is talented enough not to cross it..... Now if it sounded like Adam Lambert, I'd be concerned.

4. There is no such thing as a 10 second snippet of a song that will blow people away! Unless it's some heavy guitar riff or some catchy hook, a ten second verse to a song is a waste of time.

I remembering hearing the snippet to Last Cigarette and was like, what the hell is this? After hearing the final product, I was totally wrong. If someone played me 10 seconds of Love for Sale (where Richie and Jon are conversing) and said this is New Jersey, I'd flush my head in a toilet bowl. The list is endless…..

5. I know it's in our nature to pass immediate judgment on these snippets (I'm guilty of it myself), but lets try to be open minded and have faith in the artist.

6. At the end of the day, I don't care what it sounds like as long as it sounds good to my ears.

So far, it's exactly what I expected to hear. And once I heard that the snippets were released, I'm reading exactly what I expected to be reading.

I'm sure you're not, but what you said was incredibly arrogant.

Maybe you and many others expect the album to be different from Bon Jovi material, and hope that it will be, but that doesn't for a second mean that the purpose of the album is to be different from Bon Jovi material.

The purpose of the album is whatever Richie wants it to be. He wrote the songs, he's made the music, and he's helped to produce it. It's his record. If he wants to write music that sounds like Bon Jovi then that's his prerogative.

And IMHO, Undiscovered Soul wasn't that different a sound from a Bon Jovi sound.

Not trying to stir things up, but it's Richie who set those expectations. All the interviews he's given were emphasising how this was going to be different from Bon Jovi, Richie experimenting, small label, lucky to have escaped big label so he can do what he wants solo, lot's and lot's of jamming etc. Now I know, it's just snippets of four songs. No one should make any judgement of a whole record based on 10 sec snippets of 4 songs. But hell, this band has set very high expectations in the past, only to let most people here down time and again. Of course people will be critical and sceptical, it's only normal.

You are right with Undiscovered Soul. It's not that different from Bon Jovi 2000+. Lot's of POP-driven mid-tempo songs with some R&B influences. Yet when it came out it did sound very very different from anything else.

Definitely some good points. I really think Undiscovered Soul and Destination Anywhere bridged the gap between 90's and 200's Jovi.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being critical but it's far too early. The jamming solos won't be in the verse or chorus, we know that's not Richie's style. He's not going to reinvent himself just for the sake of doing something different.

I randomly went to site that leaked the clips and the video changed:

http://mpcamusicpublishing.com/catal...ichie-sambora/

It's mostly released songs, Our Secret Place, plus Richie's version of Willing to Try. Why would they pull it completely and replace it with one that still has a new song?

The list of the songs on the right of that site contains some known songs. But there are some titles I never heard about. Can they be the ones of the songs on his new record? Or maybe even titles of old b-sides?

According To The Gospel Of Love
Best Days Of My Life
Black And Blue
Con Air (instrumental)
Dirty Fingers
For All Of The Love Departed
Forever Mine
Get On Up
Great Hall Of Fame
God Is A Girl
Going It Alone
Let's Get Inside
The Lucky Ones
Oh, Yeah
One Night Understanding
Only Love Can Do
Our Secret Place
Pain Where There Once Was A Heart
Rear View Mirror
Someday
Somewhere Tonight
Trail Of Broken Hearts
Trying Not To Get Over You

We talked about that list a few pages back. 1 of those is on Desmond's album and a good chunk of them have been around forever on the ASCAP site, at least in title form.

It's my fault. I told him to come back. It's a lot better.
